This is So Good. It is suppose to sound like Benny Goodman and his Orchestra and it does. Every instrument is played so beautifully. I never saw Mr. Goodman in person, but without looking at this Tribute, I would think I was listening to him. The young woman on the clarinet with the young man playing vibs ( "I've Got Rhythm") are so great together!! SYLVIA in FL

I saw him in concert one time in his later years. It was a huge hall with a sound system for Rock concerts. But it was amazing how his clarinet was shining through the mushy sound and how inspired the musicians were by his presence. The guitar player that night was Philip Catherine, a musician from a much more modern era, who got a solo in each tune them played. Also what I enjoyed was that Benny Goodman was very engaged during the concert, visibly enjoying to play with that band, blowing the clarinet as powerful, swinging and elegant as in his younger years. And despite what you hear and read about him, at least that night, he was very friendly and communicative with the audience and musicians alike.

For the benefit of, I guess, "young people", back in the mid and late thirties Goodman's band was easily the most famous in the country, and he was widely known as the "King of Swing". Fifty years from now people will be saying "Michael Jackson was the 'King of Pop'? Really?"

Strictly speaking, "One O'Clock Jump" was not composed by Basie. It was put together as a head arrangement by the whole band. Buster Smith, the lead alto, was responsible for the main riff. It went by the name of "Blue Balls" until the band played a radio program and a new title had to be hurriedly thought up to be announced over the radio!
