JK-BMS still on top of the game? Follow up video.

Ғылым және технология

Well we've seen some drama since Jikong launched it's new BMS. Is there a problem? Is JK-BMS or Jikong still on top of the game? In the second part of the video I try to answer several questions I received after the first video. Some questions were very obvious for me, but not for every follower.

If you have an installation in a camper or other moving objects you like to have the bms connected to Victron (GX) because of VRM to check your system while you are not there. The V3 inverter bms does the job flawlessly. Another benefit is that it is connectable to a pc so you don't need your smartphone. Imo there is never too much information ;)

The JK BMS is still one of the best and getter better. Both the original form factor and the new inverter (closed loop/networked) keep improving. I have four and once I figured out the settings they have been running for close to a few years trouble free. I will say that documentation is only fair. Like anything, there will be some duds but this isn’t too common with these. The most common problem isn’t the bms, it’s an error in installation. And usually if it fails, it just stops unlike some others that can wreak your cells. I highly recommend these

Hi Mate, I have a Solis hybrid 5KW inverter, and I'm using it with 16 EVE 304 cells and a JK inverter BMS with an active balancer. I've been running this setup for the past five months. The JK BMS communicates the state of charge (SOC) to the inverter, but the SOC keeps drifting over time. Here's the issue: even when the BMS indicates a 100% SOC, the voltages drift slightly lower with each cycle. Over the weeks, the SOC gradually drifts, so while it shows 100%, each cell and the overall pack voltage are slightly lower than the previous cycle. If I adjust the battery capacity settings, the BMS resets to 70% SOC, and the inverter charges another 3 or 4 kWh. This SOC drift is frustrating because on cloudy days, my 16 kWh battery effectively only charges to 11 or 12 kWh. The remaining 4 kWh stays uncharged because the BMS incorrectly reports 100% SOC to the inverter. To fully charge the battery, I have to keep changing the capacity settings in the BMS back and forth. Is there a way to use this inverter without CAN communication or by setting it as a generic battery? If anyone else has the same issue or knows a solution, please comment and suggest how to fix this problem. Thanks!

Hi, I know SOC and JK BMS is not a great combo, specially with the older BMS. I suggest to use a decent SOC meter (like the victron) to measure and report the SOC. The latest JK-BMS with the breakout board has a better SOC tracking. Hope this helps. Franky - EASYPOWERWALL

Thanks for your time and video. About JK and their support. They are tipical Chinese company. Zero response for confirmed issue. About two months, planty of emails, WhatsApp and nothing. Issue is about new Inverter and triggers for relays. So maybe product/price is greater but support is terrible (doesn't exist).

Hi, I agree communication is not great, they invested time to work on the website and all software and manuals are available. The community made a few FB groups to share information.

Thanks for the interesting video! Did you check for current/engery consumption of the BMS itself? When Bluetooth is on or off? Can you separately switch BT on/off? I would really concider to switch it off, when you leave the battery pack at rest for a longer period (some months). I heard many stories, that the battery was sucked down to deep discharge with BMS switched on for a longer period.

Would you consider to try and use the JK-JBD-BMS Interface Board ('Peter' Board) in the future?

Don't think I will start using the Peter board. I'ts all about economics. The boards are pretty pricey and it has an impact on the ROI. Working on alternative solution to access the BMS. Stay tuned, but first I enjoy a 2 week holiday.

Hello I also have an off-grid installation of 5.4 kw panels, in verter Easun SMV 4 of 5.6 kw and a LIFEPO4 battery 16 elements of 280 AH. If you can help me, what are the voltages that must be set on the inverter to charge the battery to 80-90% and discharge to 20-25%. Thank you in advance.

Hi Nate, I'm a bit surprised by your message. Never had to pair again after the initial pairing with my cellphone. Just launch the app and it works straight away. Have you tried that? Can you try with other device if you have the same issue, just to make sure it's not linked to your device. Franky, EASYPOWERWALL

Thanks yeah I tried that. I also have a golf cart with a JK BMS that is acting the same. I'm able to get into both if I retry over and over including restarting the app. Also restarting the BMS helps. I believe it's an app issue or maybe it's just my android phone. 🤷

If you only charge to 3.45 why don't you have 18S config? Victron equipment is happy right up to 66V so even a full charge twice a year you would go to 65.7V.

Hello. I would like to ask you a question. I want to make a 16s 48v battery. The cost of 16 280Ah cells is 2690 dollars in my country. However, if I make 16s 48v as 3p16s 48v 100Ahx3, the cost is 2390 dollars. My question is, will connecting 100ah cells in parallel in threes cause any problems? I will use JK bms. total capacity makes 48v 300ah. ((3x100Ah)x 16) = 48 cells

This will work fine. Just know that the total weight will be higher, you need more busbars, you need more fema tape and it's more work.

Mucha gente se confunde el que carga y descarga las baterias es el inversor el jk solo esta aquí para monitorear las baterias y cortar la carga o la descarga dentro de unos parametros de seguridad para las baterias ....estoy equivocado???

The oil lamp comparison is not very good. I use 2 separate battery banks, consisting of 2x16 EVE280Ah, each with it's own JK BMS v3, communicating with each other and with the charger. Let's continue with your example, one bank has problems and the bms is stopping the charge, but at such a large capacity (560Ah) it is not uncommon to charge it, or discharge it even with 200-300Ah. If a bms enters in the protection mode, you would push all that current in the remaining bank, which depending on how it is setup, will either enter also in protection, either will push it hard. Either way, not optimal. With the communication you don't have that issue, as soon as a bms is out, the charger will decrease the charging current. This was just an example, issues can be multiple, a cell or bms temperature, cell voltage etc. PS: just o e more UTP cable between wthen2 bms's and one to your charger. Nothing complicated.

For me jk bms shows on all cells 0.06v too high voltage and overall for 8cells shows 0.50v higher total voltage. Crappy device, Dally showed ok, but did not had active baalncer
