What’s crazy is Darnold was one of the highest rated QBs ever to come out of college and nobody thinks he has a chance to be the starter. If you look at his situations, he has had the worst combo of offensive line, offensive coaches, head coaches, and WRs of all time as the starter for a highly drafted/rated QB.

JJ is nearly 21.5yo. He was only the starter at Michigan for 2-yrs & elected to enter the NFL Draft after his junior year. He sat behind Cade McNamara his 1st year & watched him beat OSU, beat Iowa in the B1G Championship, & lose to UGA in the CFP semifinal. JJ really took it all in & beat out Cade for the QB1 position the next year. Sadly, they lost Corum, due to injury, & the team's scheme was run heavy so couldn't finish the job. The following year he was able to lead the team & win the Natty! He'll benefit from a year of sitting & observing, glad he isn't being forced to be QB1 as a rookie. Mac Jones had a decent rookie year w/ Josh McDaniels spoon-feeding him (likely how Saban got results from him at Alabama, along w/ a talented receiving corps), but he couldn't do it by himself. He was already mentally broken by the time Bill O'Brien came in. Don't need that happening to JJ.

I mean i didnt play pro ball, but the last thing i want is a QB change mid season. I rather have a competition during training camp. To say the position is not a competition spot is kinda weird to hear from pro players. Whats teh point then of picking them in the first round if theres no competition ever for QBs

Vikings told the world that JJ was not going to play. They’ve watched the master class that is the Packers develop QB’s for 20 years. Let Farve come in mature, he dominated, bake Rodgers for several years, he dominated, let love learn, he’s looking like a stud now. They do it right and the Vikings are wise to follow suit. Current NFL has F’ed over these young QB’s by stupid day one pressure.

It’s weird, I don’t disagree with anyone on the show;m: they all have very valid points (I.e., QB not a “competition position, taking pressure off JJ, etc). But let’s be real, you drafted JJ because this is a win-now team. The pressure is on regardless. Get the man his first team reps; anything else and you’re doing the franchise a disservice.

I'd go further an say even if JJ has an immaculate camp and preseason I still think Sam is the QB. An make no mistake, so far jj has looked sharp in there but no actual football has been played yet. If a team wants their young QB to have the best chance of succeeding they should sit the first year or two. Now Darnold is not a good QB and probably brings little to the table to help McCarthy. Id prefer a vet in front of the young guy. Im also someone who thinks McCarthy was way overdrafted and overhyped big time. I didnt think he was a first round pick and his tape was awful and he played in a system that did nothing to help their QB look like a pro QB
