Only to fans and hype for the media
What’s crazy is Darnold was one of the highest rated QBs ever to come out of college and nobody thinks he has a chance to be the starter. If you look at his situations, he has had the worst combo of offensive line, offensive coaches, head coaches, and WRs of all time as the starter for a highly drafted/rated QB.

Pac man got the dip lisp 😂
Of course Darnold is the starter! They're not paying him $10 M this year to sit on the bench. It's the best situation for JJ to learn.
Im a Michigan fan, during their whole last season including the championship, I also said JJ would make a good 3rd stringer.
JJ is nearly 21.5yo. He was only the starter at Michigan for 2-yrs & elected to enter the NFL Draft after his junior year. He sat behind Cade McNamara his 1st year & watched him beat OSU, beat Iowa in the B1G Championship, & lose to UGA in the CFP semifinal. JJ really took it all in & beat out Cade for the QB1 position the next year. Sadly, they lost Corum, due to injury, & the team's scheme was run heavy so couldn't finish the job. The following year he was able to lead the team & win the Natty! He'll benefit from a year of sitting & observing, glad he isn't being forced to be QB1 as a rookie. Mac Jones had a decent rookie year w/ Josh McDaniels spoon-feeding him (likely how Saban got results from him at Alabama, along w/ a talented receiving corps), but he couldn't do it by himself. He was already mentally broken by the time Bill O'Brien came in. Don't need that happening to JJ.

Dallas turner short stride opened front foot and leg too early, causes high right miss JJ on the other hand, has pretty good mechanics, his glove hand is counter rotating he lands in triple extension, with hip to shoulder separation, he just needed cleats for the dirt and to extend the front leg and let his torso come forward,

Dex first gets a blowup tweet about the Guardos and their wind tunnels (100% a thing) and now he has a tweet featured on Pat McAfee. Wild.
Lol why did they pay wr1 with no qb?
I think this also the best thing for the Vikings, they are a team that is ready to win now and need an experienced qb
Having a glove on the mound makes a big difference in pitching.
JJ elite next year after sitting for a year
Jordan Love says…..hold my beer, good luck rook.
For the most part, there's no incentive to throwing out the first pitch. If you do well, people shrug. If you screw up, people clown on you. Lebron understood the same thing about the dunk contest.
It’s a good decision not to repeat Vikings QB history and throw a rookie into the deep end before they’re ready. Let him develop a bit and grow if we can and then absolutely dominate when he’s got his season legs.
As a 49ers fan I'm pretty bummed we didn't get to keep Darnold. Seemed like a top choice for a backup.
Trust me when I say that, "They come to Jersey FIRST GAME and The Giants aren't having it this season w that D"
i like it i know its not the nfl norm now but id sit a 1st round qb first year that use to be the norm, what pac alluded to and just learning the league a new team/offense
Why are people acting surprised by this? This is exactly what Kevin O’Connell has been saying all along. It’s been the plan from the moment they acquired Darnold and the moment they drafted JJ. AND… it’s a smart plan!!! Putting a rookie QB in the hot seat unnecessarily (ie, starting him immediately) would be a bad coaching move. And KO’C is not a bad coach.
Lol Kyle Shanahan said last year that Darnold had the same ability as Steve Young. Minnesota believed it. 😂😂. It benefits a rookie QB to learn behind a good veteran QB, probably not so much behind a QB with limited experience that hasn't had any success in the league. How about if CJ Stroud sat out his rookie year?
As a Packers fan I find it hilarious that the Vikings are gonna most likely start “The Gunslinger “ Sam Darnold…. 😅

McCarthy is the only NFL ready quarterback from this draft. Youre going to see the other QBs really struggle because they are not ready for NFL schemes or adjustments.
I’ll be honest, I was PRAYING he wouldn’t get the start, he was my team’s QB. I want to see him succeed at the next level, so I want him to develop and become great! But this title and that pitch… are brutal 😂😂😂.
JJ was 10th overall not 11th pat was right the 1st time
McCarthy was held back some due to his talent at WR in college.
The issue is the contract BS... Everyone would love to have a QB sit for 1-2 years but then he starts for 2 years and he's asking for a max contract.

I get eventually giving the reigns to Darnold AFTER a competition, but to come out and say that there isn't even a competition and they just automatically give the job to Darnold should be cause for concern for the Vikings entire organization and fan base. LOVE the Vikings, but don't have much faith in McCarthy
As a Vikings fan I'm fine with JJ sitting for awhile. Watch what happens in Chicago when things go poorly for Caleb Williams and the Bears traded away Fields for nothing leaving them with no plan B.
That was the plan from the draft pick.
You guys know we did already know this. K.O.C said Sam id out starting qb way long before this
JJ and Bo Nix will be the busts of this draft
If only JJ Midcarthy could have handed the pitch off to the catcher...
Vikings will not put JJ out to fail the way Jets and Panthers have done to their rookieQBs. Will be a process. Mahomes sat for a year, Rodgers sat for 3 years, love sat for 3 years. Everyone needs to calm down
Don’t worry, Darnold won’t be in there very long. Don’t play him on Halloween 😱 (“I see dead people.”).
If this was a surprise to you just understand that you dont know ball
Tom Brady and Mahomes both had awful First pitches. It's actually closer to an indicator of greatness.

Vikings told the world that JJ was not going to play. They’ve watched the master class that is the Packers develop QB’s for 20 years. Let Farve come in mature, he dominated, bake Rodgers for several years, he dominated, let love learn, he’s looking like a stud now. They do it right and the Vikings are wise to follow suit. It’s weird, I don’t disagree with anyone on the show;m: they all have very valid points (I.e., QB not a “competition position, taking pressure off JJ, etc). But let’s be real, you drafted JJ because this is a win-now team. The pressure is on regardless. Get the man his first team reps; anything else and you’re doing the franchise a disservice.
Now they have 2 guys on the show that cant talk English
This is the right approach. I hate the vikings, I hope JJ is a total bust, but they are at least trying to set him up for success. Also, stop coping on that opening pitch, it was shite, and was no way intentional

What click bait!! I thought he threw a dribbler! At least it went 60 feet.
Bet Bo Nix starts 😂
I mean that was the blueprint the whole time, nobody should be surprised including JJ. This is the best format for him anyway, have him in the wings sharpening his tools. I'd go further an say even if JJ has an immaculate camp and preseason I still think Sam is the QB. An make no mistake, so far jj has looked sharp in there but no actual football has been played yet. SKOL
If a team wants their young QB to have the best chance of succeeding they should sit the first year or two. Now Darnold is not a good QB and probably brings little to the table to help McCarthy. Id prefer a vet in front of the young guy. Im also someone who thinks McCarthy was way overdrafted and overhyped big time. I didnt think he was a first round pick and his tape was awful and he played in a system that did nothing to help their QB look like a pro QB
Falcons really ruined the draft now I have to watch JJ in Minnesota playing the most boring offense and throws behind the line of scrimmage to a top 5 wr tandem
