Jiu Jitsu Training with JOHN DANAHER - Switching to Alternative

Спорт

In this Jiu Jitsu Training video, John Danaher teaches the Switching to Alternative technique.
This is a preview from John Danahers "Kimura: Enter The System." John Danaher is the most sought after instructor in the world and in his new series you will have a guided curriculum to learn the Kimura like never before.
The Kimura is traditionally perceived as a submission but it is much more. The Kimura, when used correctly, can be an incredible weapon because of its versatility factor. The Kimura can be used from guard to sweep and submit, from top to pass or submit, as a gateway to other submissions, as a back attack, and it works well in the gi, it works well no gi, and it is an excellent tool for MMA and Self-Defense.

BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

I chained this whole thing once I made a minor tweak and maintained the kimura all the way until I had triangle. I was doing it his way originally by letting go of the kimura to post my arm but I was constantly losing position.

I was sitting here scrutinizing the chained sequence of movements and I "felt" there was a weakness in the link EXACTLY at the point you mentioned and then I read your comment. Thank you for posting; I think I will do the same and keep the kimura throughout the sequence when I try this next class.

I'm sure most people know the sequence Danaher just showed, but it's the little details which makes it so educational. Yep, take my money John, take my money. If John went with digitsu I'm sure his instructionals would have much better production value than BJJ fanatics, that's my only criticism. But I'm sure BJJ fanatics must offered him a better deal.

what if you release your grip at 3':54" and turn fast as JD is posting his left arm to the floor and makes the turn to sit- before he reconnects the left arm? Hard turn towards his chest and immediate pressure so he falls backward? I guess you might end up in his open guard but better than in a Kimura or Armbar..or MAYBE i'm just talking shite :-)

You'd have to clarify which way you're turning. Turning onto your stomach is hard with the elbow to elbow grip, and turning onto your back is often impossible with the knee wedged into your scapula if done right. But there can definitely be space there when the top person rushes or gets a bit sloppy.

keep the kimura grip the whole time theres no need to change arms. also theres no need to post an arm out while transitioning. these are extra steps to complicate things. doing things like basing and balance come naturally and instinctually, while in the training halls and especially the competition mats you will need to rely heavily on athleticism and instincts, meaning if you need that hand out there to post it's not because you thought it part of the technique but more so its a split second reaction of the body, with no thought, in order to execute the technique.

@@collindavey6139 but technically you can do all the foot work he does while keeping the kimura grip and never putting the hand down, the one he uses is to base to keep from being off balanced but its not a problem to lose position there unless you give up the arm, you can easily transition to the spider web without giving up the kimura grip, try it out yourself.
