A reason Jinjer is one of my favorite bands is that they play in and out of the box. Being progresive metal, yo never know what to expect.

This is 100% a protest song meant to hype up the crowd. You'll notice that after the 1st verse, Tati asks the crowd "Who is gonna be the one?", i.e., who among you is going to stand up to fight back? The 2nd verse ends with the exhortation "Come on, you motherfucker, step up the crowd! Raise your fist in the air and shout out loud!", and then the 2nd chorus is meant to be sung along to by the crowd, "I'm gonna be the one!".

Jinjer (along with The Warning) are some of the very best live bands on the planet today!

I recommend Home Back official music video next. It's an anti-war song inspired by Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea & occupation of eastern Ukraine. The OMV illustrates the lyrical themes perfectly. The music is *heavy*, as are the lyrics, with a surprising interlude a little over half way through.

Never, Never, try to predict how these songs go. "Obviously this is one of the ones that will be heavy all the way through". I about shit myself laughing. When you think it's going to stay mellow you get taken when she throws the growls at you. When she's growling you get caught off guard when she throws the sweet voice right after. Then she sprinkles in Power Vocals from time to time. Never try to think you know how their songs will go until it's over. Hell, if you see "I speak Astornomy" or the Reprisal at the end of "Teacher Teacher", YOU CAN'T EVEN GUESS THAT THE SONG IS OVER! It's why I love them so much. The sound has changes and clearings to give you a rest and catch some melody and rhythm as well as satisfy that deep seeded yearning to kick something and smash a few windows. Best band in decades.

I don't think there's any use of backing tracks in this particular performance. They do play to a click track for timing, which is part of how they manage to play so incredibly tightly, and I think that's all the laptop is doing in this performance. Backing tracks are mostly used for important sound effects that appear on studio recordings but aren't easily produced by the 4 of them on stage, or second guitar parts that are deemed indispensable, and sometimes for backing vocals to create harmonies & the like (several years ago, backing vocal tracks were used much more than in the last year or two). I've never heard them use backing harsh vocal tracks, only cleans where a true harmony is deemed musically important. None of them ever fake playing their instrument on stage, and Tatiana never lip syncs on stage - if there's a backing track playing along with them, it is

Tatiana uses a few vocal backing tracks live, mostly either during interludes to catch her breath or during parts where she couldn't physically sing more than one part at once. There are a few guitar parts and synth/keyboard stuff that is backing tracks as well, mostly because there is only one guitarist in a band that plays songs which two guitarists originally played and they don't have a keyboard player

Jinjer shines in their live performances. From the same concert, "Words of Wisdom" is a great performance and well worth a reaction. Good reaction. (Subbed)

This live version is signiricsntly better than the recorded version, but it is middle of the pack for me with regards to Jinjer. It grooves hard, but is a bit too repetitive.

There are two very short songs that you don't see too many people react to. Beggars Dance and Prologue. They are from the King of Everything album, they have the same lyrics but are played in completely different styles. The lyrics are lines taken from every other song on the album (including Pisces) which is something I don't think I've seen any other band do. Taken together you would definitely feel like Tatiana could basically sing what style of music she wanted to which is a pretty unique thing about her. This song is from their very first full length album from ten years ago but it's one of their best songs. The end of the song is Tatiana's Gwen Stephani/Amy Winehouse influences coming out.

All of this is amazing. First, Jinjer rarely plays in 4/4 time, and this shifts from 7 to 4 toward the end. Eugene is a world-class tapper who refuses to overuse it, while Roman (who is generally the quietest band member) uses his guitar for texture more than lead lines. Vlad is one of the best metalcore drummers on the planet and drums is not even his first instrument- piano is, as he is classically trained. And Tatiana is a force of nature; there is no one in metal, male or female, who does what she does, shifting that easily between growl, straight and belt with such ease. Check out Teacher Teacher next, for yet another amazing song that does not go anywhere you think it will. It is at:

I don’t get the backing track debate. Having one doesn’t mean the band isn’t playing live. It’s a performance and things are enhanced.
