Thank you for the demonstration of the Jinhao 992. I just ordered one from Amazon for a very reasonable price. A medium nib for hopefully good feed with little or no scratchiness.

Very helpful and fun video Chris - the 992s are some of my favorite pens!!! Been meaning to put in the #5 stub nibs and try them for a long time now - after watching this I can't wait!!!

Jinhao 992 nibs that I received have all been buttery smooth. Favourite inks are Waterman's Serenity blue and Seitz kreuznach Palm green ink.

My 992s cracked around the cap finial. Ultimately superglued them, and still use them for class notes. Love the nibs, and have used them in other pens. My 992 nibs were surprisingly smooth for the cost.

I had two crack around finial, one just sitting in a drawer. Agree nib is great, now in many more pens.

Top review.....again. After watching this video, placed an order for the 1.5mm & 2.9mm for a bit of variety. Am sure I will have fun and enjoy them. Thanks Chris.

I think your feed might have still had water in it when you used that sailor ink. It’s not exactly a dark color, but it’s not as light and washed out as it looks in this video.

I dried nib & feed & flushed with ink 3 times before writing. In my finger swab ink is weak. Ink & pen not a good combo.

thanks for mentioning nib size. I ordered a set of six 992's on 03-03-22. EDIT Got 'em. 😁 1 problem on the red and blue pens. The caps broke just under the pocket clip. Some MMOBILE 8000 glue fixed them, so not a loss of pens. Decided not to ED these, no way to tell what the ink level is. I ordered the set of 6 translucent 992's on 04-01-22. I'll eyedropper them. 😊👍

All 992 can be ED. There can be leaks from end of the barrel, there is a plug. I have sealed with glue to ED.

what is the size of the nib of 992??

I’ve been using my fountain pens a lot lately. When I see you write on that grid paper, it looks like the paper doesn’t want the ink. I’m predominantly using Strathmore 400 & 300 sketch paper. Did you try other paper to see if there’s a difference? Thanks! I’m loving your channel.

I now use Fabriano paper for my writing examples, likes ink more.

Chris, thanks for another "fun" review, as you mention you cannot beat these for value! I do have a question, how long did (or does) it take for these pens to be delivered? Just asking as I ordered mine back in July but have a delivery date estimated between mid August late September.

I've seen deliveries listed as 4-6 weeks. Fortunately deliveries from China to USA take about 2 weeks for most shipping via ePacket delivery from China. There is a relationship between China Post & US Post Office that seems to result in fast delivery.

Hi Chris! Do you happen to have any Lamy B nibs? How would the 1.1 compare to those? I find myself going to my Lamy B nibs for shimmer and sheening inks as the wider, wetter nibs show the colors better in my opinion. Thanks!

Both are wet & smooth, the 1.1 line is wider, will provide some line variation & should show off ink more. The B is about a 0,9mm line. If you have not used a stub before, note the 1.1 is a little sensitive to angle. Just need to keep nib at the right angles. The B is not sensitive to angle and a little smoother. Both are wet & show off ink well.

@@chrisrap52 Thanks Chris. No, I haven't used a stub before. I have a couple Lamy B's that I use and like. I wasn't sure if the 1.1 would be wider and wetter or not. I was on the fence about ordering one but I'll defiantly go ahead and get one ordered now. Thanks again!

I just relised I have two number 5 stubs! 0.7 and 1.9 and I never thought of putting them into the trusty 992, silly me. They actually came from a generic "bamboo calligraphy pens" which have pretty awful step from the barell to the grip section - 11.5mm to 8mm.

Lamy broad is about a 0.9mm.

Can this be frankenpenned with a Zebra G?

Not from my view. Zebra G is a larger nib more like a #6. This pen has a #5 size nib.

I have 3 the hooded nib extra fine, the fine and one i change to a iridium Point germany medium nib

Its a great value. Many nibs cam be swapped in. Looks good, feels good in the hand.

Jinhaoi 992 may be a good pen, jinhao nibs are good and solid but quality of the plastic is very bad even didn't last 3 months. Cracks easily. Not recommended..

What do you expect for a $1? I have a few & when one breaks, I replace it. I enjoy writing with them that is what counts for me. I've had more expensive pens break, spending more money does not eliminate the issue. More expensive pens usually have a good warranty. But you will be without the pen for a while. For the 992, the warranty is having backup pens.
