@@jonnosjimny Jimny 5 door version has just been launched here in India and I'm seriously thinking of trading in the Vitara for it. Let's see how functional it is once it's available for a test drive.

@@CJ3B1 a test drive would be a good idea. Both the Vitara and Jimny are great but very different. I think as far as comfort goes, the Vitara would be better. But the Jimny will perform better off-road. Vitara might also be better for a family. Not sure how the 5 door Jimny will compare. Also depends on how much space you need

Hi Jean. I saw in the UK it’s not possible to get a new 4 seater anymore. Are you able to get 4 seats in France. I initially thought we would also wait quite long but we were lucky to get ours after a 4 month wait. When I first got this armrest, it was the only one I was aware of, there are other options that you don’t have to attach to the seat. I still prefer this design far more. It’s super neat. When does your Jimny arrive?

@@jonnosjimny thanks for your answer Today in France we can just get 2 seaters unifortunatly. But we avoid to pay a huge ecologic taxe, that's why Suzuki has made this choice I've just order my Jimny, I hope for August but may be more... Sorry for my english and drive safe 👍

Hi @@jeanmichelfils9032 . No problem, it all makes sense. If you want back seats, there are companies that can do after market fittings for back seats. While you wait it will give you lots of time to plan all your accessories.

I did full underbody and pan rust proofing (it's going on the beach at times), the rear defogger wire protectors, faux leather seat covers for the front, a dog hammock to protect the back seats, rubber fitted dished floor mats to keep the muck off the carpet, and a phone holder. The rubber bungs in the passenger side dashboard grip hides 8mm bolt holes, perfect for mounting things like the permanent phone holder or a GPS. I 3D printed the custom phone holder. My advice is to use short 8mm socket head bolts for the mounts. The brass 8mm receiver is 35mm deep, but putting a steel bolt into the brass for the full length tends to bind up for some reason. I don't really see the point of the arm rest (I don't lean while I'm driving) but the Jimny definitely needs some storage options. There's also limited options for mounting a 2-way radio, so I'm kind of thinking if I want to mount it in the middle instead of a centre console. Since I'm very short and the Jimny has lots of head room an overhead shelf for comms is also an option. I've also started a spares/emergency pack that fits in the tiny "boot" area. 1L each of coolant and oil, Schrader valves, valve caps, light globes, extendable wheel wrench, torque adapter for 1/2", puncture repair kit, and meters/testers etc. Basic tool kit is under the drivers seat. I'm used to being able to repair most basic things while off road, and it has saved me from being stranded a few times. The difference here is that I'm used to carrying full multiple toolkits in a Toyota Hilux only for remote trips, whereas now I'm trying to squirrel away small basic kit on a more or less permanent basis. Driving a Jimny messes with your head LOL. At some point I'll probably upgrade the tyres to normal (smallest) size BFG K02s but I'll see how the LT tyres work out first for what I want to do. Apart from that I don't have any plans to upgrade the running gear at this time. "Stock as a rock" is my intention.

Sounds like a good start. I definitely need to get the underbody rust proofing done as I drive on the beach. There are a few cool options for overhead shelves on the Jimny. I’ll be making a short video on storage for the Jimny soon. I do like the BFGs. I’ll be driving my current tires till they are slick and then putting some 215s on. Not 100% sure which ones as the Jimny is my only car and I use it to diet to work and do longer trips on the road with it.

@@jonnosjimny Well I'm thinking of putting the 215/75 R15s on the factory rims. I believe they should fit OK and the diameter is just very slightly larger by 10mm. It's nothing really. Roll distance will be 1.5% longer which won't make much difference to the gearing or the speedo, especially since the factory speedo reads about 4km/hour over the real speed. Of course my plans may change depending on how it goes. They have some nice underbody coatings now, very high tech. It did stink out my garage for about a week though, until it set.

@@dondle2 Well originally I wanted the Waxoyl product because it wicks into seams, sticks really well, and is practically self healing because it stays semi soft. It 100% protected my Hilux for the ten or twelve years I had it, driving through salt water and brackish creeks with never a problem. I phoned every place in this town and no one does it any more, something about OH&S means they can't use it. I don't know the brand of the solvent stuff they did use, but they used clear coat in the engine bay and sills etc, and black tarry stuff for the underbody. It sets hard like paint, but as I said stinks to high hell for a week. They were the only place - everyone else just wanted to sell the electronic rust protection which was even more expensive and is a bit hit-or-miss from what I can gather. So far the job is holding up well on the beach. I just hose down everything when I get back from the beach and with the clear coat, it was put in places like the engine bay where you wouldn't want to spray Waxoyl so it's possible the protection is even better. I got a lot of respect from the dealership when I took it in for the first service, both for the rust proofing and the general condition for an off road vehicle (most people don't clean the way they should when they come off the beach). I've seen the Waxoyl advertised on Ebay, but you might have to apply it yourself. Normal procedure is to steam clean the under body and then apply. I consider some form of rust proofing essential protection if you want to keep an off road vehicle for a long time (or protect the resale value). Too many of my camping friends had sills and chassis rails rusting out after a few years.

That Suzuki doesn't install defogger guards as standard is mad

I agree. They are so flimsy and exposed.

I don't think I'd be confident with the arm rest, cutting a new vehicle ect, I've ordered one, my first ever new car, I've always had used cars but never a Jimny!

I felt exactly the same. Never thought I’d be comfortable with it. But it’s pretty easy. This arm rest is definitely the neatest looking arm rest. But if you want something easier, there are arm rests that fit into the cup holders between the seats.
