Yes. 55 years old like you. And a 'small town boy '. Left my parents home at 19 after my father told me he 'would kill me seeing me with a man!' Never came back.

This song IS the eighties for me I listened to it sitting on a train from East Calder to Central then Paisley 5 days a week until I moved through to the West. There is nothing else like it . Ah I miss my AIWA play both sides Walkman with rechargeable battery .

I'm from New York and I never heard of Jimmy Sommerville until recently. That is amazing. He is such a beautiful man!

Incredibly powerful song with such depth and meaning.

I can feel all the pain of the characteres even without hearing them, I see all the hate and ignorance agains all this people. Jimmy found all his friends in the train. They were taken out from their houses too. So sad.

I loved this song back in the 80’s and still love it now. I never knew what the full meaning of the song was because I just loved the music. I thought it was just about a kid being bullied and left home. Now I know it’s about a gay kid coming out and leaving home as his parents didn’t accept him, makes me sad. Back in the days I didn’t even know what gay was or other sexual preferences were. He must have been so brave to sing about a taboo topic. I’m so happy he did for those that needed it. I love all people, gay or not. I’m so happy it’s more open and we accept it more as being normal. Love is love.
