Look up Natalia Shakova and Arctic Methane Hydrate Dehydration in the Laptev Sea. That methane would cause a feedback loop that we can't stop and methane is way more powerful than CO2 as a greenhouse gas, essentially it's way less transparent to solar radiation from the albedo effect.

Apologies if I'm getting too sci-fi, but one hypothetical explanation for the Fermi paradox (which considers why the universe is so quiet despite the seemingly high probability of extraterrestrial life) is that no civilization ever survives for long past the stage of interstellar communication/travel. i.e. Every civilization that has ever theoretically existed in the universe ends up killing itself around the stage we're at now. There doesn't seem to be anything special about us that indicates we're going to be the ones that figure this thing out. And once we're gone, maybe somebody in the Vega system or somewhere like that will wonder why it's so quiet in our corner of the universe.

I know, because (as a paying member of Australian Skeptics) I have saved details from the time. NASA, Russian scientists, Australia's CSIRO - all agree. More importantly, global insurance companies' catastrophic risk assessors have upped premiums and restrict payout conditions, and the national-level insurers have passed it on. Final point: use the what-if outcomes. If it is real and we do nothing? If we act to use renewables and capture carbon, and make the carbon into petrochem to store underground just in case we f up in another way and need to start over?

Your Titanic analogy is good. Just like in the Titanic, there won't be enough lifeboats for everyone. Earth can probably sustain up to 4-5 degrees warming and not result in effects similar to the End Permian Extinction (where 96% of all life was wiped out). However, most humans will not survive and we'll probably reach some extinction level of 40-70% of all life. The tropics will become uninhabitable and the ocean will be a desert due to anoxia. The elite, with their resources and access to advance tech, most likely will survive in small numbers at the poles. Antarctica will probably be like Elysium, in that Matt Damon movie, for the wealthy. How we get from where we are now to there will be unimaginable death and destruction.

We don't have the technology to change course no matter what they tell you we don't have a solution. It isn't oil lobbyists we don't have a way out.

This was my favorite segment so far from the climate night shows. Really excellent job Jimmy and the writers. And especially THANK YOU for calling out Biden and the Democratic Party, which are not held accountable enough. They could do so much more and must! Call your legislators!

Please post the scientists' ad as a separate item, and have a brief preface "As a public service announcement..." I would like to see TV/internet channels play it, frequently.

According to quantum physics those "right wing dumheads" are right. Nature is always more powerful than human beings and nature also destroyes itself constantly. The climate change is a scientifically proven hallucination. The reason the traditonal scientist don't believe that this is true is also proving that this hypothesis of the quantum physics is right. It has been proven already in the 60's, that every spectator is effecting in the "reality" they observe (tests have been made with electrons). So if a scientist believes in the climate change they also find proof of it, because they believe in it. That is a most modern scientific hypothesis. And also all our most important scientific applications like mobile phone technology, laser etc. are based on the quantum physics. Everybody should accept by now, that there is no "time", there is no time in the black holes and only few deny the theory of relativity. Why would there be an "absolut reality", if there is no time? Albert Einstein was asking: "Is the universe a happy place?" The only absolutely true answer to that question is: "Your universe is exactly the kind of universe you believe in." I inherited Conoco-Phillips stock from my grandfather who worked for them. It has performed wonderfully my entire life. I sold it 2 years ago. I'm voting with my wallet. I don't want to invest in petroleum companies unless they are completely devoted to retooling towards zero-carbon immediately.

If you know anything about glaciology then you know glaciers melt even when the planet is cooling, just like they melted from 1945 to 1979, 1998 to 2015 and 2016 to 2021. They just use melting ice as an excuse to push their global warming scam. Scroll up for facts.

That snowball is weather; the average increase in temperature globally that keeps going up and up is climate (usually considered regional, but the trends are global).

@@vvc7163 There’s small progress happening all around, the line 3 protestors are doing a great job, the movement pushing for change is no longer on the fringe. Despite the Biden admin not being the best, they have cut back on drilling and approving more(though this is a more complex situation) california is doing good things when it comes to fossil fuels. A court in Germany ruled that future generations have a right to a healthy earth(important for legal precedence). We shall see how the infrastructure votes go. But there’s some. And I always tell myself, every bit of progress we make is lives saved, both human and non human.
