Not at all. But part of rock royalty, none the less.

I have met Jimmy the first time via Phil Lynnot 1980 in Hamburg Germany while he was touring with Phil promoting Phil's Solo Album... Also an other friend of mine Mark Nauseef a phenomenal drummer who was living in Hamburg these days who introduced me to Phil Lynnot. So from then Jimmy and me became friends and I was lucky to be in 83 in L. A. and he invited me to come to the Sound City Studio while they where recording the DIO Album and hanging out with them at the Rainbow on Sunset Blvd. I will never forget this time we have shared! R. I. P. Jimmy

True legend, played on lots of classic albums, and seems to be a stand up guy. RIP Jimmie...

I have seen Jimmy perform numerous times from the front of the stage. You could tell he LOVED what he was doing. He would look you in the eye, smile and nod his head . Miss him much !

+ Ocean OMG !!! Killing the Dragon !!! What an album. Definitely my favorite of all the DIO albums. By the way, there's a reason why Ronnie always tried to retain Jimmy Bain & Vinny Appice when writing/recording the material for the DIO albums and when touring them. Why ? They were/are beasts at what they do and Ronnie knew it. Smart man.

The bass sound in rising is out of this world! Plus, the vocals he recorded are amazing! In live performances he hit all the notes always! RIP Jim! One of my greatest influences as a bassist!

I was lucky enough to see Dio live back in the eighties, the holy diver and last in line tours....never forgotten Jimmy....true legend.

After decades of being a Dio fan . I just realized that's the first time I think I ever saw his face .

Rainbow Rising is such a great album. It ushered Dio into the realm of rock fans conscience and further cemented Blackmore not only as a guitar god but as a creative genius and composer. Deep Purple with all its world-class talents in Jon Lord, Ian Paice, et al, they were not the same without Blackmore. In fact, Rainbow was rising whilst Deep Purple was declining. Dio went on to have a successful solo career and great success with Black Sabbath.

What a Gentleman.

Life only seems long when we're looking forward. Tomorrow seems forever away, yesterday is the blink of an eye. Believe it or not, I remember when John Lennon was killed; Bon Scott, Randy Rhoads, Cliff Burton, Randy Castillo, Frank Zappa, Dimebag, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Clark, Freddie Mercury, Jerry Garcia, A.J. Pero, George Harrison. And, of course, Ronnie James Dio and Jimmy Bain. I was in my office in May 2010 when co-worker stopped in my office door and said, "I just wanted to say, I'm sorry." I shut the door and had a little cry. When Jimmy Bain died, I felt like I'd lost that cool old uncle. He was the guy at the party and the barbeque with a smoke and a beer who was always there with a joke. He may have been a bit of a screw-up. But in his element, with his bass in his hand, he was a rock-solid performer who would never let you down. Dio, Rainbow, Black Sabbath provided the soundtrack to my youth. We rode into battle blaring "I" from the speakers of our Stryker. I trained for marathons with the lyrics, "How bad do you want it? How far will you go?" from Living the Lie playing in my ears. I wept after break-ups while playing Rainbow Eyes over and over and over. The tattoo on my arm reads, "Too many flames, with too much to burn. And life's only made of paper." I loved these men like l love my own family. They are family. General George Patton said, "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived."I know. But I can't help but to be sad. I miss them.

I’m almost ashamed of myself for not knowing who he was when he passed took me another year or two before I came to know his work in Rainbow and Dio.

The mid-late 70s into the mid-80s was the most exciting musical period that I lived through (born in 1966). Rainbow Rising was a great album and right on the cusp of a musical breakout. After the first Van Halen album in 1978 the floodgates opened. Guitar playing, particularly flashy guitar playing, brought about a new excitement. It was very real; you could feel it and almost touch it. It helped make existing bands more relevant (Black Sabbath came out with Heaven and Hell and Judas Priest came out with Screaming for Vengeance and AC/DC with Back in Black) and there was Ozzy/Randy with Blizzard and Diary (my all-time faves) and the L.A. scene and then Malmsteen hit the scene and Mike Varney started the entire guitar instrumental genre with guys like Vinnie Moore and Tony MacAlpine. It was just a very exciting time, from the late 70 through the mid-late 80s. And exciting times feel good and create optimism. Nowadays, we are drowning in some very harsh political goings-on and the future is uncertain and nothing feels good. At least to me. I wonder how it will affect the music that is created in the coming years. But guitar-playing wise, I don't see how the era of VH, Rhoads, Lynch, Malmsteen, Schenker and a few others can be topped. But in 500 or 1,000 years, will anyone even care? A few music nerds, perhaps, but think about the number of musical artists that will appear between now and then. It boggles my mind. But I was around for Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and Over the Mountain, and I take great pleasure in that.

this is so sad, I feel for him. I've known guys who came close to the big show and even them can't quite shake it, performing is addictive, you miss it, ...can you come close to imagine how Jimmy felt, no wonder when no one had use for him he just felt forgotten, my good thoughts go out for Mr. Jimmy Bain, btw I own the Rainbow On Stage double disc with Tony Carey n Cozy Powell. Great days, If you were there I salute you.

WW3 isn’t nearly in the same class as Rising and Holy Diver, but Jimmy’s songwriting capabilities are overlooked too often.

If you are an accomplished guitar player, you would understand that playing rock bass really isn't that challenging. Chugging on root notes is not very difficult..and for the most part, that is all you have to do. Yes, good bass players exist. But their skills aren't often needed.

Bain, Robertson, Edwards and Carter were a fantastic combo for Wild Horses. Great musicians in their own right and very underrated/underestimated.

Ritchie claimed his bass playing was subpar. I think Ritchie was actually intimidated because Jimmy was a great creator and more creative than RB. I think it was Blackmores ego that pushed out Jimmy. Musicians have claimed for years how instrumental JB was in the songwriting process.

@@kikiu2619 do some searching on KZread. I will try to dig it up. Ritchie even admits he was not good )which shocked me). He said he always hated that part of being a musician. And he even gave Jimmy props in another interview I watched, which again shocked me.

@BANGERTV-All Metal Good to see the both of them! Not sure who monitors this channel! But thank you for this! Jimmy was truly one of thee best in the world! We were friends! Family! And we worked together several times outside of Dio. He was a very kind man! He's a very deep thinker as apposed ro his image given in a lot of other interviews and it's great to see that side of him again! You can see he was troubled but I assure all Dio fans that it was not due to anything between Ronnie, Wendy and himself. He and Viv got a chance to work together again with the singer that I actually was trying to get into the Dio Disciples! Andrew is obviously much better off in LIL! But I was the one that had the distinct pleasure and honor to introduced Jimmy to Andrew. Jimmy and I were working together in a touring band called "The Hollywood Allstars". And the lead singer Chas West was unable to attend a large outdoor biker festival that Krigger ( drummer from Giuffria ) had booked for us. So, I opened up my little black book so to speak and after it didn't work out with the DD's and Andrew I still was so blown away by his voice that I thought this was my chance to do at least something with him! And sure enough Andrew blew the minds of thousands that day including Jimmy's!! And true to form as I learned the hard way, that whenever I introduce what could be considered a new artist to a world renowned artist as "mine"....they get stolen by the larger named musicians. As it should be in all reality to most people's way of thinking. So I got tired of that and started picking relatively unknowns as "mine" for the sole purpose of them getting stolen by the higher ups thereby giving them a much greater and larger global platform on which to debut their talent! Just thought it would be nice to interject some relatively unknown history!! Thanks guys!! Love you guys and miss you guys beyond words and measure!!! Ronnie loved you Brother!!

I bought Rainbow Rising as soon as it was released. Great album but horribly mixed on vinyl. There is virtually no bass frequencies to be heard. Polydor records also released the Billion Dollar Babies album at that time with the same defect. The remastered CDs fixed the problem. Jimmy's bass playing was great.

No way is "Rising" under-rated!! It's rated up there with the best (as it should be).

RIP Jimmy, such a very nice man..class. I just wish one question was asked of him, the one that ALWAYS should have been asked and I never heard it asked. Why on earth would Ronnie fire you for a bass player such as Tony Cook? I love RJD as much as the next person, supported him when Angry Machines came out and most of his fan base had left him by then...but why would Ronnie fire an entire band for the "metal edge pin up band?"
