Actually it is because makers of JRPGs and Japanese people in general are huge fans of European thematic music. They borrowed it and modified the style a little for games so that it’s more pleasant when repeating over and over. Mostly it’s from thematic classical music.

Man, I have been coming back and watching this again about once a year, it's still wicked.

Every video that shows someone playing a guitar with a crazy extended range has a hundred people in the comments saying that they respect the musicianship but it sounds terrible. What the hell do you want it to sound like? This was a perfect jazzy neo-classical type piece. He accomplished what he wanted to accomplish, how could you possibly say that it sounds bad objectively?

+Turdsplosion Using a higher end electric piano, some of them come with either a dial or a touchpad that allows you to have the same type of effect as bending or sliding on a string instrument.
