once again coach stone works defensive mechanics over and over..great training video. when you reach the 11 min mark skip to 14:40...some euro coach, worthless filler . get back to coach stone as quick as you can.. Some of the skills are for more advanced players...that said, you can bring these in for younger players...especially the foot work and playing the ball at knee height

JW- Why do defenders need to back up to the sideline in the drill at ~14:00?
@veronicarepp6842
I think it’s an exaggeration of their need to go back to base after a play, like they don’t need to go ALL THE WAY back to the sideline when playing but they’re probably doing that so that they can create a muscle memory to always go back. If that’s not somewhat the reason why they’re doing that, then I have not idea. I thought that was a weird drill anyway. 🤷🏻♀️

having the athletes backpedal to position in the middle of a rally right when the athlete needs to be ready to react is incredibly dumb. Further, having defensive athletes up close on the quick attack doesn't pay off in any case because hard driven middle attacks are literally almost never dug. A hard driven middle attack that is dug and turned into a point might happen once every three or four matches. These drills emphasize a fantasy about the game of volleyball where coaches imagine their athletes as constantly digging hard driven balls. The reality is that hard driven balls are rarely dug, and hard driven middle attacks are essentially never dug (and turned into points)

Sure. Although sometimes the reliability of a coach tossing the ball is necessary (especially when creating a demonstration video).
