Objectively speaking, this is still one of the greatest matches ever made. Regardless of what Benoit did, this match's quality is still undisputed. Yeah BUT Benoit likely went insane so I can actually look at a match that took place before that happened and find some enjoyment in it. Chinatown was directed by a child rapist and I find zero enjoyment from the film as a result.

People do call HBK small though, it's just never brought up as a reason for him not getting over with the fans because he compensated with high flying moves and his personality. Benoit wasn't really that type of guy. He was a great technical wrestler, but his moves weren't flashy like Shawn's, and he didn't really have a character when he was on the mic.

The only other times I've seen a bar erupt like that in Ottawa was when the Senators won the game that was taking them to the Stanley Cup finals, and when the men's hockey team won Olympic gold. Canadian wrestling fans had a Canadian champion once again. It was heartbreaking how Benoit's story ended, nobody can ever fully be forgiven for that, but I think it's weird the WWE has erased him from history.

Come on JR- Wrestlemania 20 may have had the best ending, but saying all the matches that needed to deliver did? Brock vs Goldberg was one of the biggest duds in Wrestlemania history, the Undertaker’s big return was well built up but the match with Kane on the night was also poor. I’m probably being a bit harsh here as it was still a good match but I thought Eddie and Kurt could’ve done far better given their talent levels and the occasion. The classic main event was the show’s only real saviour.

He was more heavily muscled at the time, but he wasn't as tall and his natural frame wasn't quite as big. But, Michaels was always considered a small guy too. Unlike Benoit, he had a ton of charisma and mic skills, plus a more exciting in-ring style.

@@imdeadinside7985 Casual fans, especially back then, don't find that style to be exciting. I mean, look at the adjective you're using. The word technical even has a boring connotation. Sorry, but for the vast majority of American wrestling fans, Shawn Michaels was considered a far more exciting wrestler than Benoit.

It's too bad one of the best Wrestlemania main events in history has been marred and unspoken due to Chris Benoit's later actions. ANd it's totally justified, it shouldnt' be talked about. It's just a shame that such a wonderful match had to be ruined by later atrocious actions.

I hated the fact that they did that. I always had a feeling it was because Vince didn't have that much faith in him. It should have been just Chris vs Triple H. If Chris would have lost, I would have been pissed. Glad he won in the end.

It’s been so long now I had to give up hoping the Benoit murder suicide was a set up and he was framed. Devastated he killed his child. I don’t condone killing his wife, but you can understand from an emotional point how that could happen. Accidentally or premeditated, still not excusable but hurting and killing your child is evil.
