There is no one like Stone Cold Steve Austin, I started watching early 2000s and he quickly became my favorite wrestler. I stopped watching wrestling for years. Now I just got back into it, started binge watching raw starting in 1996 and to see him transform from the Ringmaster into Stone Cold is very cool. There could never be another 🖕🖕

The neck injury by Owen was horrible blessing. The move shortened his career but he gained more respect than he already had after that. Them turning his return into an angle and starting the origin of Austin vs McMahon rivalry.

Hearing that Dave Meltzer only gave the Wrestlemania 15 main event 3.5 stars, imagine someone telling you that Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks put together dozens of matches that were better than Stone Cold vs. The Rock 25 years ago or Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns this year. If you don't think Meltzer is biased with his ratings system, then I've got a beach front property in Wyoming I'd like to sell you. 😂

And this is why we remember that star ratings have never been an objective measurement of the quality of a match but has always been nothing more than the subjective opinion of one persons tastes and preferences in a match. Anybody who still thinks on his system any deeper than that need to make a pivot already and stop letting a guy’s ratings skew to his personal tastes continue to be a surprise or affront as if it has ever been anything close to objective and simply move along

What is the criteria that Meltzer actually uses to rate the match? Lol There are too many scenarios, stipulations, different characters and differences in ability. It’s literally IMPOSSIBLE to give each match a calculated rating. Who ever likes this rating shit is weird.

@@Beautifulcomments It's pretty simple. If you can understand the language of the lead up promos you may deduct a star. If a storyline was built to lead up to the match you may deduct a star. If the crowd pops too loud you may deduct a star. If no one goes to the top rope you may deduct a star. If the wrestler(s) doesn't leak to dirt sheets you may deduct a star.

@@supermancd1988 I'd argue Brock and possibly Orton. Both became champions faster and at a younger age. Plus there was a point where Rock wasn't doing anything and was close to getting fired until he joined the Nation. Still, I'd say he's a much bigger star than they are and after a slow year, Rock took off to become the second biggest star in what can be argued as the biggest era of wrestling. Then he became one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

I was 16 when this happened it was such a great time to be a wrestling fan. I absolutely loved this Era of professional wrestling it will never be matched or duplicated

The thing is with fans we really didnt know if it was the end. He was still around, Sheriff and stuff. But when we all knew it was over, I cried. I still do. There wont ever be anyone like him again. Literally. They can call all these guys the greatest of all time blah blah. Theres 1, and it's The Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin.

What about when Shawn Micheal’s had to fight a gauntlet match against 3 people (one being Randy orton)and if he lost then stone cold was fired from the raw general manager position. It was such an emotional match and that was the end of stone cold being on tv

​@alwilson3204 Kind of irrelevant. Stone Cold Steve Austin is the greatest Superstar of all time and is still the biggest merchandise mover in the wrestling industry.

Austin had a bad neck and two knee braces circa 2000 when the attitude era was red hot. Austin got as much wrestling in the ring as he could imo.

I was like that when he and Undertaker retired.

It was a mutual show of respect between the two. Austin didn't even tell The Rock at first that it was going to be his last match. Glad good old JR was honored to call it.

I was there too, and I feel austin would have overshadowed Cody's moment. Although I would have loved to hear the glass shatter, undertaker was a huugggee surprise and did perfect!

I too was in Philly & i Do agree with you both But at the same time i was still disappointed asf lol cuz for literally weeeks i was 100% convinced stone cold was gonna be there wore his shirt and everythang always been my favorite wrestler etc etc 😂 but whatever the weekend was still Amazing none the less

Let's remember JR called Bischoff out being a son of a bitch firing Austin. One of the greatest RAW moments in this millennium. Watching it now is great because nobody has surpassed Stone Cold yet.

As far as I can tell that injury was probably as much Austin’s fault as Owen’s. That sit-down piledriver was a totally established spot that you can see guys take safely all the time throughout the ‘90s, and the guy taking it always braces his hands against the other guy’s thighs/knees so that when they go to the sit to deliver the piledriver, the guy receiving it has his hands above his head right there to catch it and prevent any neck injury. You can see everyone from Andy Kaufman to Bret Hart take this piledriver safely in that way - and from Owen, in Bret’s case! But when you watch Austin take that piledriver from Owen he wraps his hands around Owen’s waist, which is how you safely take a tombstone-type piledriver. Which is odd because Owen did say he was “going to his ass” repeatedly, in Steve’s words. So whose fault is it? Seems like a classic case of miscommunication and that’s tough to nail down.

@@bigolebot not a fan of Owen and not lying, and if you look at how Severn took it he did it the same wrong way as Austin - wrapping his hands around Owen’s waist. Go watch the videos. Watch the Summerslam ‘94 cage match between Owen and Bret and you’ll see Owen give Bret the same piledriver with no injuries. Hell, watch Lawler give Kaufman or any number of people the same piledriver and see the difference between how they take and how Austin and Severn took the ones from Owen.

Bret gave Austin a pile driver too but guess what? He didn't break Austin's neck at all, because when Bret did the pile driver he would hold his opponents back right to his stomach, Owen didn't do it that way. Yeah you can cut the "not an Owen fan" part out of here, otherwise you wouldn't have posted a long essay and become his defense attorney.
