The jaunty scot with the bionic thumb, still not slowing down! Fantastic.

I agree.. I get goosebumps every time when I replay the solo on live version You Goin' Miss Your Candyman (on reebeeking's channel on youtube)
Wonderful compositions seamlessly evoking the occasion and the venue. The interplay and humour in Jim’s playing in the trio is a real treat and masterclass of improvisation. Jim and another great master of this style of voicing, Canadian Ed Bickert created compositions that will inspire and influence listeners for years to come. Seaside and wonderful vibes. Keep up the great work with this event and already looking forward to seeing the lineup for 2024.🇨🇦
A very long time ago (1969?), I used to frequent a cellar pub in Glasgow called Burns Howff. The house band were called Power & featured Maggie Bell on vocals, Les Harvey (brother of Alex Harvey) on guitar with Jim Dewar on bass & vocals. Keyboard & drummer I don't recall. Towards the middle of the set this giant, skinny guy with black bushy hair would saunter on to the tiny stage & play what looked like a toy guitar in this weird style, just using his thumb. Once seen, Jim Mullen was unforgettable. Nice to see him doing what he loves.
Thanks. Brings back memories of seeing the Morrissey (RIP) - Mullen Band at their 2-weekly residency at the Half Moon in Putney in the early 1980s.

I saw them play at the pub behind the Oval, very late 70's or 1980.
Jim is one of the best ,so good to hear him play.
I wish i could make my fa71 sound like this !!!! What a great great player.
What a nice venue. The audience is so well manered. It must be nice to live in a civized country. Hello from Florida, 😔.
A great lesson for young guitar players. It's OK to be entertaining. Preferable really.
Ive seen Jim live a few times over the years. Everyone a winner. Thanks. A bit of a national treasure to be fair.
Hats off to you sirs, amazing musicianship.
Thank you Jim for so many great evenings and gigs in London with Morrissey Mullen, Paz, Meantime etc. You're still swinging.
Wow! Some real music with awesome sound quality and delivery.
Holy shit. Jim Mullen was my great grandpa's name. Except, his father was from Ireland, and he died in Washington, USA. 😮
Excellent phrases and sound. A pleasure to hear it. Also a very solid combo !! Congratulations from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Amazing player, licks, sound, incredible.
One of my most favorite guitarist. He has a great tone and plays with style and feel.
This guy is a library of melodies and musical phrases . Great musicians!
Another unknown monster of the guitar!! Amazing phrasing..touch..tone....lack of pick! Marvelous!!
Dang, that is melodic and swings like nobody’s business.
I am so happy, that Jim is still playing.
I love Jim's playing, it's warm and melodic. he has come on so far since his time with Brian Auger. I'd like to gig with him.
Jim is so good!
Brilliant to see Jim on such great form 🎸
It's remarkable how Jim Mullen and Gary Boyle have developed over the years from their early work with Brian Auger and others. I'd love to hear Terry Smith play again. He was spellbinding in the early 70's.

Yes Mike is a fantastic musician!
i mean, you can't ignore it - the elephant - tremendous demonstration for his vintage. it is a fair statement since, 1) its true and 2) we've all seen some aging hero's that really can't touch what made'em hero's. the contrast begs recognition of the this man, an extreme outlier and very talented.

I agrée. Great éléphant work, especially in the pachyderm sections of the tune. All it lacks is a good trumpet, otherwise, fantastical tusker.
このままリリースできるほど素晴らしい録音。演奏者と音響スタッフに感謝!
Genius Jim Mullen at work so much feeling in his playing, love Matt Homes drumming - among my favourite No 1 drummers ,Mike Gorman's organ playing is superb
Good to see Jim still out there playing away…love it mate!
Complete natural. Hears everything. Untouched by age. Beautiful!
😂Shout out for us Seasoned Denizens - and what he does with an thumb sans pick. Resounding. And that closing tune. Gigantic. Carry on 👍
Thanks for posting this!!

Great phrasing ! Got to be one of the best in these isles...
Great Jazz Organ Trio with masters of the genre. This is how it's done...Thanks guys
Jim is awesome!
no nonsense tone !
Dig how he kicks into his first solo with a super hip half-whole tone scale run, playing at maximum thumb speed!
Follow that!
Master!!!
Unique sound and style. Nothing out there like him. 👍
A truly master!
Lovely phrasing!
Class. I've been a jazz fan all my life and somehow I've missed Jim. What a player.
His dad will always be know as Councillor Mullen if you had dealings with Glasgow City Council in the ‘70s! I’ve seen young Jim in several ensembles, always great… he also played on soundtrack for Get Shorty!
Great trio.
Wonderful set by a great trio. Many thanks !
Wonderful as always
Love it
This is AMAZING!!!
This is just great !!
wonderful
GOD BLESS YOU BROTER . WHAT A TALENT .
Superb!!
Brilliant
Superb playing.
Bravo! 😎
Great player!
Great playing.
Wasn't there, but great to hear the set on here. What a wonderful treat to have a world class act in Herne Bay. Jim Mullen's soulful warmth and hard bluesy playing are a real joy to hear. He has still got it, in spades. Hope to be there to see him play next year.
Great simply Great
Great to hear and see! Thanks for this! The thumb thing can keep a player from using too many unnecessary notes and the result is super-melodic.

"My dear young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all." 🥵
nice!
Lovely gig.Great band. Just play it.
This is Awesome! love it.... Jim Mullen? where have I been?
GREAT TOUCH, great chops. Cal Collins comes instantly to mind. Sal Salvador, Billy Rogers, Harry Leahey - similarly. The tone is rich, embraceable, warm, firm & cozy (Cole ..). Good that he gave up funk and got back to bop (...till ya drop ). The one bossa cut is a minor misdemeanor, howevuhhh ...Never overplays, knows his turf, maintains the balance - stands his gnd ...
well, that was very enjoyable and impressive.
The guitarist is great, the real deal. Especially considering the thumb technique! But he has it all down. Go him.
Great guitar player very incisive
Damn that’s a talented thumb right there 🎸
Fabulous on all counts. Thank you. BTW, yes, Mr. Mullen is a Scot. I first saw his name as a guest on an Average White Band album or two (ditto Alex Ligertwood).
My favourite jazz guitarist and, like me, a long time devotee of the moleskin trouser.
How fun playing next to the carousel! Similar, playing during summer vacation on the cruise ship?
feel good
