Jim Mullen Organ Trio

Музыка

Indulge in the world of Jim Mullen, a true luminary in the realm of jazz guitar, as we bring you an exceptional musical experience on this channel. Hailing from Glasgow, Mullen's virtuosity has earned him a revered place among Europe's most distinguished jazz guitarists, a sentiment echoed by Jazzwise, labelling him as "one of today's preeminent jazz guitarists."
Recipient of numerous accolades, including the prestigious Honorary Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2017, Mullen's legacy is etched through his illustrious collaborations and solo endeavors. His musical journey has intertwined with iconic bands of the '70s and '80s, such as Brian Auger's "Oblivion Express," The Average White Band, and his own highly acclaimed jazz-funk sensation "Morrissey-Mullen."
In this exclusive presentation, Jim Mullen takes the lead alongside accomplished British pianist and organist Mike Gorman and the rhythmic finesse of drummer Matt Home. Together, they delve into the classic Organ trio format, delivering an electrifying set that seamlessly weaves original compositions and carefully chosen jazz standards. The result is a captivating blend of groove-infused hard-bop, a harmonious meeting point of tradition and innovation.
Join us on this auditory journey as the trio, comprising Jim Mullen on guitar, Mike Gorman on organ, and Matt Home on drums, crafts a musical tapestry that resonates with the heart of jazz. Experience the magic that emerges when virtuosic musicians come together to explore the boundaries of sound and creativity.

Wonderful compositions seamlessly evoking the occasion and the venue. The interplay and humour in Jim’s playing in the trio is a real treat and masterclass of improvisation. Jim and another great master of this style of voicing, Canadian Ed Bickert created compositions that will inspire and influence listeners for years to come. Seaside and wonderful vibes. Keep up the great work with this event and already looking forward to seeing the lineup for 2024.🇨🇦

A very long time ago (1969?), I used to frequent a cellar pub in Glasgow called Burns Howff. The house band were called Power & featured Maggie Bell on vocals, Les Harvey (brother of Alex Harvey) on guitar with Jim Dewar on bass & vocals. Keyboard & drummer I don't recall. Towards the middle of the set this giant, skinny guy with black bushy hair would saunter on to the tiny stage & play what looked like a toy guitar in this weird style, just using his thumb. Once seen, Jim Mullen was unforgettable. Nice to see him doing what he loves.

GREAT TOUCH, great chops. Cal Collins comes instantly to mind. Sal Salvador, Billy Rogers, Harry Leahey - similarly. The tone is rich, embraceable, warm, firm & cozy (Cole ..). Good that he gave up funk and got back to bop (...till ya drop ). The one bossa cut is a minor misdemeanor, howevuhhh ...Never overplays, knows his turf, maintains the balance - stands his gnd ...
