I saw Jim Morrison and The Doors on August 1968 at The Allan Theater in Cleveland,Ohio. It was the summer of my 16th birthday. I have never forgotten how exciting he was on stage. May he rest in poetic peace.

Saw the doors in 69 - they were great. Jim performed all night until 5 am . There were only about 50 people left in the audience.

l'm a hard-core 90s guy but l absolutely love the doors. Every now and then l'd hear a song and feel how the depth and darkness of his voice like, it wanders the outskirts of the galaxy, timeless, unreachable, immortal, on a league apart from anything else

The thing most people miss about Jim Morrison was that he was a brilliant writer. His poetry and lyrics are genius level. He was extremely talented as a writer.

Robbie was a better Lyricist, he wrote light my fire and Touch me 2 of their 3 most successful songs as well as the music. Jim added some interesting poetry into song lyrics but that's about as far as it went, he was never taken seriously in poetry circles

Crazy how Morrison, Jimmi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Alan Wilson and Brian Jones all passed away within two years of each other and all at the exact same age. They were arguably the most talented artists of the hippie counterculture era.

As a kid growing up in the eighties, I had became so intrigued by Mr. Jim Morrison. He was the total package : Sexy, Smart, So badass, So free-spirited, and so laidback. I wish that he was around today to see my generation (GENERATION X) and this one how his legacy continues to shine.

I'm in my 40's so I never really listened to The Doors. Until the movie came out. After watching that, I started listening to and watching everything they did. Live, studio, interviews, anything. I just felt that I had so much in common with Jim. And the music these guys made was just beyond mesmerizing

I also became fond of the Doors' music when I saw the movie... I was 15 years old. From there I collected everything about The Doors and Jim, and once I did I have to say that Morrison was someone infinitely more interesting and great than what Oliver Stone shows in the movie. Val Kilmer plays an extraordinary role but Jim is not represented adequately, there are too many fabrications and half-truths in the film... It only shows the Jim Morrison kamikaze drunk and drug addicted all the time, those who knew him intimately have a very different image. It's obvious that Jim was self-destructive but he was also a truly brilliant, generous scholar... That part of his personality doesn't appear in the movie because it doesn't sell, but that was also the truth.

Revisiting this episode for the 50th anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death. Rest In Peace forever to the Lizard King!

A man has honor & integrity & holds his head up high & works hard & does not treat women like objects & curse people & pull his privates out & wave it in a crowd. A man works all day & helps with dinner & marries the woman he loves before trying to have sex with her & cares about others & doing good & helping feed hungry children & gets the junkies off the streets & doesn’t do drugs but hates them because he has seen what they do to a persons body & mind. Page turner stuff. She is so shy though, very self critical and low self esteem. I get why people visit his gravesite, but, unless I 100% knew he was there, I wouldn't ever go. After all the documentaries I have watched and all the things people closest to him have said, I just am one of the ones who absolutely believe, that he faked his death and is very much alive. I remember thinking that it is an awfully short grave for his stature and then I seen his band members on a documentary and they said the same thing. Everything about Jim's supposed death, just will NEVER ADD UP or make sense, especially WHY absolutely no one got any proof of Jim being deceased and you would think his family would certainly want that proof and no one bothered...never exhumed the casket. Who in their right mind would NOT WANT ABSOLUTE PROOF?

The closest I came was with the three living remaining members going by the name Riders on the Storm playing a local concert my town used to have. Was a couple years before Ray passed away. Wasn't Jim, but was nice to see them playing their music. Before my time. My Dad was a huge fan & went with me. He had never seen them.

I was lucky to have seen the Doors live and in concert, at the University of Michigan, in Oct.,1967,at the Intramural bldg. It was the greatest concert in the world, right there, in front of a handful of people...just 15 feet away. After the band left, we were so mesmerized that we "woke up ",literally, 20 minutes later. That was a concert! Wow.

Yet clearly his life was dark and disturbed, otherwise it wouldn’t have ended at the tender age of 27. I think it’s also fair to say that people don’t abuse alcohol for the hell of it, they’re usually running from something. Guilt. Memories. Trauma. But something. Regarding this documentary-it is focused on the last 24 hrs of his life, so I think the tone is appropriate and not overly exaggerated.

If you were there AT THAT TIME, he did project through his music a dark vibe, tone threaded through it. However the later 60s got darker musically as the anti War movement and the Civil Rights struggles got more serious. You could hear many rock or popular artists at that time put messaging in their music...cuz a lot was going on. Psychedelia was also going on as well. His music came across unique and often felt dark...but we liked him for being different and he reflected the times.

He was essentially a kid revolting against his parents because at a young age he was traumatized and realized the world is not the safe place your parents try and convince you it his, Jim was raised in the cold war atomic families who kids had extremely strict lives and he revealed against this mind set at a young age essentially making him a punk before punk was a thing. He had a disagreement with his father and mother about career options and obviously held a huge gruge against them because they did not support or give him money when he was a dead beat, keeping the grudge so long that when his parents went to see him live in show and support him owning up to their mistakes he sang on stage "mother I want to f**K you and father I want to kill you" while staring directly at them showing what a troubled, delusional and entitled person he was... Jim was dark because he had serious mental issues, these mental issues were caused by being traatized and believing two native american ghosts he called Indians had entered his body... The guy was not mentally stable at all my bruh this is why his often ridiculed as a poet he was mentally not well and his writing showed this. He sung about Vietnam and how bad it was not for political reasons, not because he cared about people but simply to rebel against his father, he did not give a crap about the war he only cared about pissing off his father who was highly involved in the war... People don't seem to understand that Jim Morrison as always been painted as a dark brooding individual because he was lol. He estranged HIMSELF from his family then asked for help for is musical endeavor from his parents in the form of money they refused because he estranged himself but still had the ignorance to ask for money, you are estranged m8 they have zero need to support you then he still holds the grudge, his parents literally showed him tuf love he powered through and made himself a man, showed how determined he was most people would be proud of themselves but he still kept the grudge why lol he is successful... He won at the end but still keeps the grudge... This is the text book example of a highly entitled individual who thinks the world ows him something that his parents and loved ones are supposed to support him even in his alcohol induced periods of chaos... Not how the world works, Jim Morrison was not a dark brooding artist he was a entitled brat with good looks a person used to getting everything he wanted a spoiled single child.... I saw Janis Joplin’s last 24 hours right before this one. This one was just truely bone chilling to my core. His final 24 hours was filled with so much darkness and mystery especially towards the end. The sad thing is that he could’ve probably either still been with us today or would’ve at least lived longer if he’d gone to get medical attention earlier instead of continuing to party til the end. Jim Morrison was such a dark, mystical, powerful, and beautiful voice of his generation and I personally consider the doors to be a timeless band but Jim was a poet to his core. I feel like that’s why the “rock star” life and image didn’t agree with him well at all. Sadly the spotlight slowly poisoned this man and all we have left now are the memories and the recordings of his voice. Truely beautiful and haunting…. ✌️🤟🤘

@@mikeodonnell6799 I honestly think so too. Especially if you listen to old interviews with him explaining what he thought the “future” music industry was gonna turn into. He basically predicted that music like (disco, electro/pop and techno music) was gonna be the music that future generations would listen to and dance to. And that prediction of the disco dance/electronica/techno music wave actually started only a few years after he died. So I definitely would agree that Jim and possibly The Doors “if they’d continued together” would’ve definitely taken part of that trend once it started. The man called it and he was truely ahead of his time👍

I just saw on "Auction King" on air TV, Jim Morrison's THE POEM was sold for $2,000.00 THE couple who bought it grabbed her man and kissed him for buying it! She said she did not care they paid so much, IT was like buying a Rembrant she said! Ibguess he joined the 27 year Olds who die that age?

Vomiting blood is from alcohol. My paternal grandfather, my father, and my oldest brother (he was vomiting blood), all died from Cirrhosis. And one of my nephews (my oldest brother's son), is well on his way to the same demise. It's a devastating drug to the drinker, the drinker's family, and the drinkers' friends, and if they don't want help for themselves, then this is the outcome. So sad.

Sorry to hear of your family's difficulties. Jim Morrrison was an excellent lyricist with a golden voice, but I would have been extremely leery of being near him. Slapping women? Staggeringly drunk? There is no happy or attractive side to alcoholism . It is a dangerous thing all around.

So sorry to hear this, it is sad and it definitely runs in the family! My grandfather died of Cirrhosis also. He was always nice/ mean and abusive. Drank more after his son died from a car crash. I was sexually abused by him at 4 yrs if not before. So him passing was a blessing for me and others in a way. I come to realize that he hated himself and him (excuse me for putting these two in comparison to another) like Jim Morrison was highly intelligent, high functioning though not intellectual. My Dad, brother and I have all had problems with alcohol and could very easily went down that road. Fear of not properly taking care of my children is the only thing that saved me before I even took it home. Most aren't that lucky. It's a bad medicine!

He also didn't want to become what Bono became..the poetic soul singing guy also hanging out with presidents and business titans (basically living a double life - the art and soul of what is good in music or poetry has nothing at all to do with a Bill Gates or a W Bush)

I was friends with Lonnie Mack, a fantastic musician in his own right and at one time an A&R man for Electra records. He hung out with Jim occasionally and was convinced that Jim was self destructive. He'd get wasted drunk and start street fights with people who he knew were dangerous and would probably beat him up badly. Lonnie was a big rough country boy from Indiana and Jim assumed that Mack would have his back, which he did several times until it got old. Lonnie said Jim was hell bent to destroy himself with substances or with violence so he stopped going out with him but remained his friend til he got sick of California altogether and moved back to Indiana

Jim Morrison was the best of his time. Better than the Beatles and better than Mick Jagger. He was number one in talent looks and poetry. It's a real shame his life ended so young and what the news media put him through just because he used foul language and took his shirt off. What the rappers say in their songs today it shamefully and they should be arrested for threating the authority (Police) Rest in peace Jim Morrison. And thank you for entertaining us all in the sixties and seventies. God Bless you

Went to Paris as a family and went to the cemetery he is in and it was amazing!

I think all of the attention, drugs, finally came to fruition for Jim. His father didn't understand him. When he never was around it really affected him. People will finally just give into what they want. He was very intelligent. Handsome. He had a very adaptive voice. Started at home. He was shy. But he did have a unique voice. Love the first album Light my Fire, Break On, Hello, I love you. Second Album Love Street, Touch me. I really loved LA Woman. Riders on the Storm. Jim Morrison changed the face of rock n roll. Just a sad story.

The State of New York actually just recently pardoned his felony case. Of course many years later. The fact they still think about it is great and proves his music and poetry still exists.

Sure, Jesus has wanted for us --- a good and happy life, but our Creator also has wanted for us to meet and know HIM, as well. Don't fail to seek Him and get to know Him. Jesus said: "You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way." ... Most people don't even think about God. It's the most important thing in life!

I think Jim Morrison was a very interesting guy, he had that mystery about him. A real genius and a legend. His writings are truly amazing. It's sad he died too young because I think he could of done more amazing things if he lived.The Doors are a great band.

Those were wild times, no joke. I am a native San Franciscan, graduated from high school at the beginning of the Summer of Love - 1967. The "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" was a true statement. Doing drugs, at least smoking weed was a rite of passage for our generation. Jim had his own demons. His girlfriend is partly to blame for his death, dont you think?

Incredibly well made! Not only is the story told really well, the atmosphere is caught fantastically, beautifully filmed (great locations and backgrounds) and also it is incredible that they managed to get all the original people to talk about how it all was and how it all went in the day.. I am totally impressed by this series.

One thing that's very misleading, yet they do it on every Doors Biopic...the bathtub scene! There's a video circulating on KZread that has this guy visiting all the places important to the last days of Jim. He even goes to the Paris flat Jim called home those last few weeks. It IS NOT like they always show it on these programs. For one thing: it's very cramped, not spacious at all. But most importantly, the bathtub is a regular, plain old tub you'd see in anyone's house. It is not a stand-alone big ornate tub with plenty of room to stretch out in. Just a regular old tub. Was actually shocked when I saw the real deal, especially after having a visual of it all these years after watching the Oliver Stone/Val Kilmer movie! But I guess it comes across as much more romantic the way they design the set! Very irritating once you see the actual tub where he passed!

Started listening to them at age 15 now 30yrs later still my favourite band 💙

I got the Doors Greatest Hits on dvd. I moved to Upstate New York in the mid 1980’s and those songs kept me grounded while living there for 4 years. Then it was time for me to head back to my home in Southern California. I still love hearing those hits. I write poetry as well so I can understand why Jim Morrison had being a poet stick close to his heart. ❤️🌹✨💫💜

Well that’s not completely accurate. Ummm, here’s the deal. He passed away about a week ago. You see, he faked his death back in ‘71. He had a very colorful fifty years as someone you might have seen and you can research this, but it’s true. He played the role of Rush Limbaugh. The Lizard King got his fill of duping delights.

A lot of people die young and his was self inflicted.What about all the young babies and children and people with diseases???Now that is sad.

I visited his grave everytime I come to Paris. Always a lot of flowers from fans. Sad that many times people ( I think the locals) stole his head statue. He was buried in a cimetery with many other famous in the world like Chopin, Micheal Angelo, Jeanne d'Arc.....He was not only talented, but also very Smart and highly educated.

for me Jim was always a poet in first place.

Is impressive to see that many people still follow his music. ( young people)

Lets get this straight. His best friend and girlfriend spend the last 24 hours with him. Now he is coughing up blood, he collapses 2 or 3 times, he vomites after eating, and she wakes him up because he is not breathing. Ok now note to best friend and girlfriend. If i have those symptems CALL THE AMBULACE OR GET ME TO THE HOSPITAL you stupid people.

Yeah could have been prevented had he been taken to a hospital or had any of those with him been caring and concerned enough about him to call an ambulance or physically take him to hospital ... As argumentative or as refusing as he was... So very sad for so many of the greats in the 27 😔 as well as many other famous artists who's deaths could have been prevented had those who genuinely loved them kept them safe .. 😔

Correct.. but that's not how it went down. Jim overdosed on heroin in the toilets at the Rock n Roll Circus. His friends found him there and carried him out of the side entrance and took him back to the house. He may have died before they even got him home. They put him in a cold bath to try and revive him and when that didn't work and they realised he was dead they got rid of all the evidence of heroin and made up a story that Pam then delivered to the Police. They were protecting themselves from prosecution as the suppliers of the drugs. Makes more sense now, doesn't it.

I don't know why, but Jim, the Doors and their beautiful music still put a spell on me! ❤

For certain, same here!

I love his rich, raspy, deep voice. I prefer "The Doors" way more than "The Beetles". Jim's voice was like a shot of good whiskey! He WAS eye candy. Jim moves like Mick Jagger or vice versa. Creative people struggle a lot with dark emotions. Jim was feeling his impending demise coming hence the restlessness.

Its a real sad story. The life & times of Jim Morrison. He lived fast and died young. However we look at it he lived his life exactly as he wanted to. Its sad that he is no longer around. Also it would have been interesting to see how they or he would have evolved as the music changed through the years. Thank you for the great music you left for us Jim.

I was so obsessed with Jim Morrison as a young kid in the 80’s. I really thought it was unfair that he died 9 yrs before I was born. He was gorgeous.

Watch Jim's 1969 "HWY" movie. This actor walks exactly like Jim in the film, who was obviously overacting.

He was never born and never died, he passed through the world and left a heritage with a massive spiritual value. i like to think about him as a messenger that brought us this kind of borderline poetry that was both gloomy and cynical but also hopeful and freedomful.

He lives on and on and we try to fathom it all out. I don't think so many of us will ever believe he actually died. All that can be said has already been said and we cannot bring that legend back. He would have been my own age now but unlike me, he will be remembered, researched to find clues a motive or some reason why? . I guess we all need closure for this man that so many of us wanted to be . So many of us loved him then, so many of us love him now. I sometimes wonder if Jim Morrison could ever rest in peace? Always searching as he did and as we still do for that lost soul who gave soo much voice for social change and a sense of justice for all. Love you man, always will.

I saw the Doors in 1968 at the Queen E Theater in Vancouver, BC. Best concert ever!

I’ve heard amazing stories of when the doors played “the warehouse” along the Mississippi River in New Orleans. My old boss Bonnie attended their concerts like 4 times. She told me the stories and I was mesmerized. Just a great band. One for the ages.

Jim Morrison had a profound presence in the way he mesmerized all those fans and followers of his music and the Doors. It was obvious he was fighting his own demons of his dark side. The more famous he became the more recluse he got. He never knew his own ego would cause such a paranoid schizophrenia that ended up killing him. To bad because he was so gifted and talented he never got the chance to enjoy it all. RIP Jim we miss you than k s for the music. 👍✌

Brilliant when I heard their fist album in 1980 I was fourteen years old the sheer brilliance of his lyrics especially on songs like twentieth century fox and break on through really blew me away different elements of jazz blues baroque circus music rock and roll and classical In my personal opinion quite possibly the most innovative bands if not the most recent innovative of the century

Jim Morrison and the Doors are still one of my all time favorites but he chose his lifestyle and no excuses by others to that lifestyle will be accepted by me. One comment at the start of this video, "he was crying out for help but nobody knew what to do" was absurd. A more appropriate would be, "he was crying out for help but we all kept taking advantage of him" The Jim Morrison fame and money were beneficial to all of those around him and they knew it to be. Of course, Jim's unique style and song content but also the different sound that the Doors band had was a big seller to me. Play me five different bands of that era without letting me know which and the Doors would be instantly recognized.

Jim died of a heroin overdose. It is that sad and simple. People try to find complex answers to simple event that involve famous people. Jim got away with it for many years. He was only 27, at that age death is something very far away. Jim talked about how people his age would live well past 100 due to advances in science. He never had a death wish he just tried to get away with it one time too many.

It’s still a mystery. It was said that he always condemned heroin, and was never a junkie. It could have been the first time he tried it, he O.D.ed. He was likely drunk on top of that. We now know alcohol and opiates are a deadly combination.

Danny lived with Pam for 3 years after Jim died and she died of guilt for shooting him up. These are facts and it was not the first time he tried it. I do not understand why people want to question this?

@@brendak.44440 Jim Morrison is my favorite writer and front man ever but I have to live in reality. His life was tragically cut short and there is nothing to admire about why that was. Imagine if he was still with us today? His life was a cautionary example of what not to do.

Such a shame, Jim was severely misunderstood. What a beautiful man who despite success.... was a very lonely man who had the world at his feet. May you have peace and God bless.

I remember when I found this documentary in like 9th grade during 2014 and have listened to them since early high school after I changed my opinion on their music. When I was younger I didn’t like them because of the name but now I understand it. Hands down one of the best rock bands in the world and a lot better than mumble rap.

As a big Joy Division fan and a big fan of Ian Curtis, I would definitely say that Jim Morrison had a big impact on Ian and Ian loved The Doors music.

Masculine and feminine all rolled into one, Wow! And a metaphysical poet, a mesmerising combination. But torment rolled in like a storm to accompany him, when he was young.

How sad both he and Pamela died at 27 from heroin overdose. Unbelievable really. So very young and so much to live for. Tragic.

Pam lied about his death, inherited his money and continued to party until she died.
