I’m a 54 year old black man I have respect for Jim Kelly and I thought he was a really good martial artist! But he wasn’t my black Bruce Lee when it came to martial arts, Bruce was my idol when it came to martial arts and I don’t give a damn what color or nationality he was!!

We all must always remember Jim Kelly ... because he was the first black man who break the barriers for black martial artist around the world in movies....he star in enter the dragon with the legendary master Bruce Lee, John Saxon, Bob walls, Bolo yeung and the others.....he should have been bigger than he was....but as we all know everyone who is good and should be up there doesn't get what they deserved....so we must always remember a legend....RIP JIM.

Wow ! How sad. I didn't know this guy died last year. I will never forget him from Enter The Dragon with Bruce Lee back in 1973. Wow - He was only 67. The average human life-span is 70 to 80 years of age - But, I wouldn't of expected Kelly to die at that young. He was no Bruce Lee - But he was awesome in his own right. He got killed in that movie. In those days - Black guys were rarely, if ever the star of the movie, so they usually got killed off in the movie. Too bad - he was a pretty good Martial artist.

Warner Bros. weren't so sure about it, they thought they needed a 'star' in the film for it to succeed; hence the inclusion of John Saxon. It was scripted that Roper (Saxon's character) was to be killed; to which Warner Bros. said 'No': for John Saxon to be featured Williams (Kelly's character) was to be killed instead.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Kelly at Supanova 2012 in Melbourne yesterday. As a long time fan of Enter The Dragon, the chance to meet one of the stars made me go to a convention for the first time. He was warm, friendly and easy to talk to. Thank you to Mr Kelly for helping to make my first visit to a convention so enjoyable. He is The Man.

Jim Kelly was the coolest Martial artist of all time. I loved him in Enter the Dragon. Saw Enter the Dragon when it first came out in theatres. Completely knocked me out. Was watching the TV show "Kung Fu" and thought David Carradine was the wickedest fighter of all (I was only twelve) but Bruce Lee and Jim Kelly showed the world what martial arts was all about. I remember the day Bruce died like it was yesterday. Very sad. Today is another sad day as Jim Kelly was announced to have passed. RIP.

I appreciate everything that guys like Kelly, Lee, and Saxon did for martial arts movies in America. Sucks seeing how Bruce and others were and are treated here and how much more he should've accomplished, but that's usually the story for those who strive for greatness and try to do so in an honest and respectable manner. I've got nothing but respect for him and people like him.
