If we go by Jim's logic on submission holds, then Charlotte and Britt Baker both need new finishers. Neither of them are shooters working a body part to get to the finish. Charlotte just copies her dad and hits a chop block at some point, then locks in the "most dangerous figure four in the history of everything."

I do have to agree with Jim on Pac doing the Black Arrow - it takes him 25 minutes to get set so it looks off. Back in the 80s, Macho Man would get up the ropes, double finger point, and leap for the elbow in what seemed like 5 seconds total.

PAC still wrestles as his old indie self back when he was like 20 kgs lighter... Ive been watching him for almost a decade and although he has toned down his high flying in favor of his mat game and striking, he could be even more grounded. He is just THAT good. If AEW was any smart theyd make him the leader of a 5 person stable alongside a decent tag team, an up-and-coming future world champion and a woman.

I think what's been lost is that lower card matches used to be won with moves like a sunset flip or a powerslam. The great thing about that was that you could buy them as false finishes in main events. Now, since everyone wins with their finish, it makes the main eventers' job much harder. The match is just a way to kill time until they start hitting finishers.

People in the comments as well as the podcast are right about Meltzers rating being watered down, but what we need is a competitor thank can actually rate unbiased match results. When he gave that Omega/Okada match at WK 11 everything started going to shit. Not because the match wasnt good but because he broke his own system. He couldve savaged his reputation by doing what most game devs do when an expansion pack comes out: Level scaling. He shouldve gone ALL the way back to the first 5 star match when WON was established, Dynamite kid vs Tiger mask, and start re-rating everything from then.

I assume he gets drunk on those cruises and hears fans say "I love you man, love you so much. My childhood, my childhood!" And he thinks that means "I like you in your current form, keep going." The guy saying that is just happy he finally got to meet Jericho and is starstruck. It's Jericho's job to know what that truly means, but he doesn't, seemingly. I really like New Japan while AEW doesn't really click with me the same way, and I have a theory for why. New Japan is clearly booked over the long term and gives their huge moments focus, and time to breathe. Like it's booked from the philosophy the NWA stuff Gedo loves, to be a long term sustainable promotion. Like they had their roster poached by WWE for years, and Gedo was easily able to slot new guys into the main event. AEW feels like it's booked with the philosophy the Monday Night Wars had. Trying to top itself, and that's not sustainable. Like I think about that show where Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson and Ruby Soho all premered at the same time. It made that show feel gigantic, but the fans know they're coming and you could pull in more casual fans to your tv show drip feeding and building up excitement. It felt like blowing their load on top of minimizing Adam Cole and Ruby Soho, just by Bryan Danielson showing up. Like you should promote them each as big stars, and it just felt like a wasted opportunity.

What about the build to Hangman's title win? They built that over years. Or the MJF vs Jericho feud which included weeks of the 'Labors of Jericho'. Also even though you have some valid points, in my opinion, AEW has more sustainable long-term storytelling than modern day WWE does with their hotshotting of talents for a month or so before burying them in obscurity etc Oh and I love how they've booked Danielson, even without him leading the YES chants. In every match he has won with a different finish! ...but yes Ruby and Adam Cole ermmm yeah can't defend that lol

12:53 Brian's epic burial of Cornette: "Well you have stolen so much from Heenan, why stop now?" 30:46 In hindsight Adam Page as Champion wouldve been SO MUCH BETTER for everybody involved. Omega wouldve had time off to heal and treat his injuries. The Bucks wouldnt have devolved into completely idiots. We wouldve gotten a Mox vs Page program and multiple matchups that couldve elevated both the wrestlers involved AND the title. @@Deanof316. i watched a few... saw Punk turn heel. saw Brian work like he was suddenly from the 50s. seeing a lot of early WCW going on. I'm liking it. seeing dark order, ftr are the job crew with nostalgia feel good. seeing wrestlers going out and expecting a reaction and posing for it with out the audience giving it to them. and I take a break now and then. if jimm says something amazing happend ill watch that episode and decide further. if aew was a lady. I'm not calling her. but if we bump into each other and are both hungry, we can go for a date and if she doesnt misbehave we can set a time for another visit... but no. she cant leave her toothbrush at my place.

I know it would never happen but can you imagine the nuclear heat that would happen if FTR replaced Tully with Cornette. Cornette could give some of the greatest heel promos in history and hopefully be able to teach the guys in the back how to streamline their matches. Between him, JR, Arn, Tully, Malenko, Dustin and Roberts they could be able to turn in the greatest matches of all time every damn night.

About the street fight. They don't care about how it looks on sports show if they host laugh at that. All they cared about was Jericho winning his "feud" over Cornette.

I dont agree with everything Jim thinks, but he does make a lot of logical points. While AEW is giving a good alternative to WWE and giving fans some good quality matches their biggest problem is small details things he talks about in this podcast that stops certain things from making sense and the biggest one for me is lack of storytelling which is a simple solution if you hire a good booker and writer instead of any of the wrestlers or Khan writing it.

What really bothers me about wrestling post-Sports entertainment is how seemingly arbitrary the IWC's reactions are towards some wrestlers' or promotions' in regard or certain comments or actions. It's that obvious bias against the perceived enemy what completely destroys any type of objective comment even when is a good one.
