I feel like the only time cornette gives that god tier wrestling knowledge is in matches that he has problems with but wanted to enjoy. I only say this because in those cases, he will take the time to explain how the finish could be better, or better time managment in and out of the ring, facial reactions. I just wish Tommaso would become an old school heel and just shoot on the world. Problem is the WWE put out BLACKheart.

I agree with Johnny's facial expressions. He looks like he gets concussed/knocked out after any big move and it looks phony when he's doing it like 4 times in the same match. But I did think this match was one of the best in modern wrestling so far, way better than any other match throughout the entire week except maybe Riddle v Sabre Jr. Still haven't watched it yet so I'll have to see afterwards. This is definitely as close to a classic as we're gonna get from WWE for a long time

If a Suplex is done off an elevated area to the floor, Cornette will hate it. This guy really fucking said "hit the guy with the furniture not the furniture with the guy!" So Cornball wants Ciampa to pick up the fucking plywood table cover and hit Gargano with it? The way they did it got a much better reaction and better payoff, throw a small guy like Johnny into some shit. In action movies you see goons getting thrown over bars and onto tables all the time. They don't pick up a fucking table and hit someone with it. And maybe Cornette wasn't paying attention but they did use two crutches, they used the second one for the finish where Gargano broke it and then thought twice about it. Cornette just doesn't get the bigger picture. The fans and their expectations have changed, we don't have the same mindset our grandparents had towards the product.

I agree that this was not old school heat. The fans hate the "character" not the person. Old School they hated the person and believed he or she was a horrible human being. Difference is people thought it was real back then. The heat Ciampa had was as real as heat gets these days. When you take a powerbomb off the apron onto the concrete floor and the crowd chant "You deserved it" You know you've booked a good heel in the modern era.

na, it was a good grudge match that went on too long. It has been waaay overrated and overblown. It really sucks that the actual championship match was cut terribly short for this shit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but I think it just went on for too long and there wasn't much storytelling it was just a overly dramatic spotfest. +Bryce Mc|Neil yet it is also now known that wrestling is fake. Ciampa from his twitter game to his promos may have been the most despised person on the WWE banner this weekend excluding reigns as they want Ciampa to be a heel. Yet that does not mean just because no one is stupid enough to go to prison for stabbing a wrestler anymore does not mean he can not have an insane amount of heat. Also I have been to other sporting events boxing, UFC, soccer etc where there have been people who have antagonized the fans and no one tries to stab them. So what the hell was going on in wrestling that it was seen as normal?

It's actually an old-school thing. Traditionally, in the territory days, if you did an "unsanctioned" match (often called a "lights out" match at the time), you would do every other match on the card before it, then you would turn the lights off briefly (as you would do at the end of a show) before turning them back on, to signify that this is not a match sanctioned by the federation as part of the show, this is something off the books. If they'd gone whole-hog on that, they'd have had the copyright logo after the end of Almas-Black and faded to black for about two seconds before resuming the feed, but having it at the end of the show, after all the sanctioned matches, gave it some of the same feel.

Adam Timmons The main roster doesn't show wrestling it shows 'sports entertainment' ie emphasis on characters and storylines over in ring wrestling so obviously NXT will always be better in the the in ring department but it doesn't appeal to a casual audience like Wrestlemania does.

Corny gives reasons as why he thinks why he thinks and has the advantage of booking his own company and being creative for Major companies. He knows when something isn't booked right or when the flow of a show or match is off. I don't tend to like modern WWE style wrestling but I enjoyed the show overall and most of the Gargano/Ciampa a lot. I do think Ciampa is a better heel than gargano is as face. Corny is still pretty relevant, his podcasts and stuff still get a lot of views, he's making money without having to do the stressful stuff he used to do. I'd say he's winning/

I think he's putting these guys over more than criticizing. His points of contention are more with the layout of the match and where they performed their spots. If his biggest complaint about Johnny is his facial expressions then it's really not hating on him, in fact, he repeatedly puts over his work as crisp and athletic. He repeatedly says Ciampo made a great heel and his work was exceptional at it. I loved this match, but I can see Corney's points as well. I thought Ciampo's facials when Gargano had the crutch was awesome near the finish and it made the eventual tap out more dramatic. Corney loved the finish but thought it looked too staged by Gargano. To each his own. But I wouldn't just disregard Corney's POV as too old school when he spends so much time praising what he saw. Nor do I automatically love everything just because it comes under the NXT banner.

It was a good grudge match that went on too long. It has been waaay overrated and overblown. It really sucks that the actual championship match was cut terribly short for this shit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but I think it just went on for too long and there wasn't much storytelling it was just a overly dramatic spotfest. I wanted to see another good length classic Almas match not an overblown grudge match.

HBKforever210 you obviously don't either if you think those are the only good storytelling matches. Nakamura vs Roode at takeover San Antonio, AJ Styles vs John Cena at Summerslam, Almas vs McIntyre at takeover Houston, Kota Ibushi vs Zack Sabre Jr. at NJPW Cup, Okada vs Shibata at Sakura Genesis, Okada vs Omega at Wrestlekingdom 11, AJ Styles vs Okada at Dontaku 2014, Johnny Mundo vs Prince Puma Ironman match, Pentagon Jr. vs Vampiro at Ultima Lucha, Son of Havok, Ivelisse, Angelico vs The Crew Trios Championship, Mil Muertes vs Fenix Grave Consequences. Shit, and thats just season 1 of Lucha Underground. There are plenty of matches waaay better in everything not just storytelling than this overrated, overlydramatic, way too long, overdone grudge match, spotfest.

Lol this comment thread is a great example of two people hearing completely different things from the clip, in each case hearing what they wanted to hear. Cornette had some critiques of this match but he also gave it some strong praise a few times. That's how a review is supposed to work - you talk about the things you liked, and the things you didn't like. It's called nuance, which is an old-timey thing we had back in the day before online comment sections were invented.

Sagar Adhikari JR isn't a commentator for NJPW anymore and when he did commentary for Wrestle Kingdom, he said it reminded him to why he loved wrestling again. Also, JR has bells palsy so he always has that "not give a shit" demeanor. Might want to learn what you're talking about before you look like an idiot. If people didn't give a shit about NJPW it wouldn't be the second largest wrestling promotion in the world.
