The issue with Moxley, for me, is that he treats EVERY MATCH like it's a Blood Feud Grudge Match. If he were more like Dean Ambrose during matches like his one with Takeshita and Yuta and bring out "Jon Moxley" in the ACTUAL BFGMs, I may be able to get into him.

That's the one thing ECW introduced to wrestling (and promotions like CZW promulgated) that I can't get into.....having not one wrestler, but *tonnes* of wrestlers whose character arch is "they want a bloody fight no matter the opponent" which in turn takes the heat off of a feud that's supposed to be the big draw. It's not so much a problem with Moxley specifically but that he doesn't stand alone in this regard. For e.g., when Brody and Abdullah would go at it, well......obviously they were monsters size-wise, which helps, but it was also the subtle message to a territory's audience "yeah, anyone in this promotion can get extra violent if they hate their opponent enough......*these* guys tho....*these* guys are crazy." When you have an abundance of "deathmatch" workers though; how do you get the super feuds across?

If there were even ONE other wrestler that was a mainstay in that territory that had that gimmick, no one would've cared about Abdullah or Brody, unless they were specifically brought in to face that guy.

@@smellywaffels1967 yes we did. Going to the outside generally meant that you were going to have to use the steel barricade or the table as a weapon because you didn't have any in ring wrestling ability. You usually saw this with hardcore stipulations or street fights which are used to hide wrestlers. Vince McMahon versus Stone Cold Steve Austin was one such kind of match. Ric Flair versus Vince McMahon was another kind of match that utilized these rules because they weren't going to have a barn burner in the middle of the ring. If you take it back to the seventies and '80s when Ric Flair would roll outside of the Ring it was Ring psychology to avoid the baby face by going to the outside. It was a total heel move and now Moxley is sitting here on the outside grabbing weapons in a normal match on a Wednesday night without any stipulations and representing not even the AEW Championship but an INTERIM belt. Sad!!

For all of wwe's faults with the booking of Dean ambrose, the one thing that went right for him was in matches where he had time but stayed within the ring, he was actually not bad. He wasn't Seth Rollins good but he never needed to be. He had a decent baby face fire, good at selling and even in matches where he had to use weapons (because of wwe hating blood at the time) he did well within the restrictions and there in lies the problems with aew Jon moxley. What restrictions does he have other than don't die or don't kill anyone? I've always found that Dean ambrose could get the most out of a match when he's limited because he plays to those limits fairly well. When there's Noone to tell him he'll be dq'd for using that weapon, or that the count out will go on for 6 whole minutes, or that he can start the match by yeeting himself and his opponent to the outside, he just kinda goes all over the place. He can be a decently good wrestler. His moveset is simple and effective, no need for high risk offense, good at selling injured limbs and honestly he has great facial expressions when he's in pain but gosh darn is it so tedious to watch any of his current matches. It really feels like instead of bringing the absolute best of Dean ambrose with him and incorporate that into Jon moxley, he discarded Dean altogether and picked up Jon moxley from almost 2 decades ago

These days, ech, I’m conflicted. I still do like his promos but he needs someone strong to bounce off for them to land most effectively. Otherwise he’s just giving a soliliquy that’s starting to get diminishing returns from familiar parts. And what I love about AEW is that I sometimes get the wrestling I love to watch (FTR, Deeb, Punk, Hobbs and Starks, some of Kingston) and Mox as a single hasn’t worked something I’ve loved in a very long time. Brian really hit it with the cult of personality bit. Part of what drew me to Ambrose was that charisma and learning what he went through in life. But now so long as Mox gets pops, and what audience there is for AEW buys the product in the percentage growth the buys have had, then he’ll get by on goodwill and leftover enjoyment of his personality.

He's gotta learn to throw a working punch. Most of his stuff looks phony. And even when he does work stiff it doesn't really look good. In wwe he had punk early on to work with to slow him down and rollins later to help in out. In the 3 man matches with the shield most of these weaknesses were hidden. But since he was has been single wrestler especially in AEW we are seeing him expose his own weaknesses. If he would slow down a bit then it would be better. He should have regal picking apart his matches telling him what he needs to do better.

The bit about slowing down in particular, ‘cause if AEW top-down runners-to-talent could use one thing it’s to learn to slow the hell down and let things breathe. Also what you said about Regal. But for being a main eventer, multiple world champion, with the amount of influence he has in this particular company. The way it affects his colleagues booking, matches, and the way they will wrestle in the future… Then that’s where the problem is. And I like Jon. But yes, the more I watch him. I will say this. His matches with Seth Rollins in WWE were amazing. I remember being so let down when I heard their first match against each other was going to be a lumberjack match (this was right when the shield broke up so Dean/Mox was a white hot babyface and Seth was the biggest heel in the industry) because no one in wwe has ever had a good lumberjack match but by god they went out there and had one of the best matches I’d seen in forever PLUS it was a great lumberjack match then a month or couple months later they had THE best Hell in a Cell match since HHH vs Cactus Jack. I was convinced Mox was the second coming of Stone Cold and he even had a cool quick finisher the double arm that one of the greats had (cactus jack) and it actually fit him perfectly. But then WWE put him in horrible stories and his matches where passable at best sometimes really good when he had a good opponent. His finisher changed to something that looked kind of stupid. So I was super excited when he left WWE because I thought they were holding him back and AEW is where Mox will be able to become the next stone cold like he should’ve become in WWE if it wasn’t for Vince. But then like Jim I just kept noticing him make one horrible decision after another carrier wise and his matches while at first where awesome just became the same thing over and over with the hardcore shite.... but all AEW wrestlers do to much I can’t tell you how many AEW matches I’ve seen that could’ve been all time great matches had they just stopped 5mins earlier. Like how can you tombstone a guy off the top rope and he kick out but then hit a clothesline 2mins later and get the pin fall. It’s like they don’t know how to build a proper match just cool move after cool move for 45mins and hope the fans think it’s good. But to be fair it’s still better than the quick tv Matches of the wwe. But when WWE is on point their main event matches or still unrivaled imo.... Mox and in extension all of AEW would do so much better if they calm it down a little. Like Mox should get a little more muscle on him and basically do the matches he does but focus on strongstyle and cut 5mins off the end and only use your finisher once and have it win the match and no hardcore stuff unless it’s a serious feud against top talent then break it out occasionally (I mean Mox does hardcore matches really good probably the best at them in wrestling right now but even Mic foley didn’t do hardcore stuff in every match). Thanks for reading my rant and this is only my opinion not trying to hate.

To be fair he worked really well for me in The Shield. As the unhinged third guy. The story would always be that at some point Ambrose lost his cool and then went apeshit. After Seth or Roman tried first. Then they gave him gimmicks as a single performer. Which had shades of Stone Cold but were waaaay more random. Like showing up to an arena with some kind of contraption on wheels. Stone Cold did the quad. Ambrose showed up with a hotdog cart (which got a pop from the locals there) But what I would have always liked to see more from him was some technical wrestling. If he did that once or twice on AEW. Brian hit the nail on the head he has a cult following for some bizzare, unknown reason that keeps him in the upper midcard/ main event scene. He was always my least favourite shield member. No fan of Rollins but he's a solid worker/ good hand at least ( though not a main event guy) Moxley is just a dullard

Dear Alexandru, You are delusional. You have 0 IQ because you are easily getting brainwashed by people like Brain and Jim Cornette. Only cult here is the fan base of Jim Cornette. Jon Moxley's fans are genuine civilized people with high IQ,high class, and high standards. Jim Cornette's fans are people who are delusional, stubborn and out of touch with the trends, morals, and today's TV business value. The only reason Jon Moxley is one of the biggest wrestling stars in the world today is because Jon Moxley is cool, unique, and a badass. As simple as that.

Shawn Michaels on the junk was an insane prick, but he was a great personality in the ring. Getting clean made him unwatchable, he'd come out and look like a badly rehearsed tribute act. Its better for the guy usually, but not necessarily for the show.

If Moxley is the worst wrestler in the world, outside of context that would imply that Dwarf Dongsucker and Jelly Nutella are better than a multiple time world champion who's wrestled all around the planet. There's of course the stipulation of grading according to exposure, booking, etc (sort of like how you hold a more expensive car to a higher standard than you would an old hooptie), but it's still a funny thought.
