I was present at this event. I'll never forget it. Shawn Michaels came out with Chyna and HHH and got on the mic and said "If we keep throwing shit, we'll just shut this shit down." Shawn barely made it out of the ring before the crowd filled the ring with chairs. I was about 13, I left that place covered in beer. It was nuts

If I remember, I think the big reason for the incident in Little Rock was that it was on a Monday night and the fans thought it was going to be a live RAW, but it was just a regular house show

Actually the fans that night, myself included were upset because the show was advertised as a Raw is War taping and we were then told it would not be airing. Plus the normal Raw ring setup wasnt there, no Titantron, etc.. we got the old bait and switch

  • @thisisnotachannel

They did that to us fans a lot back then. I was lucky enough to attend an actual RAW taping in Albany NY (I live Upstate) at the then "Pepsi Arena", formerly the "Knickerbocker Arena"... and now "Times Union Center". But the other show I saw there was absolutely a bait and switch situation. Luckily the card was still really good... so there was no riot... but they definitely sold tickets like it was a RAW taping... but like you said, no titantron, I don't even think there was any pyro, and they definitely didn't use the RAW ring. It was the old red, white, and blue ropes (which surprised me, for some reason). Main event was a triple threat between Mankind, Kane, and Undertaker. Probably the best house show I ever saw.

They were already throwing stuff... when he got on the mic the only thing he said was "because of you stupid people throwing shit, you just lost your main event"... it was a Monday night, that they had advertised as "Raw", which it clearly was not. That was where the problems started that night.

Let's not forget - Shawn didn't do jobs regularly. And whether he did or didn't, he wasn't going to make the other guy look any good unless he had to. Bret Hart, whether he was booked to win or lose, was against squash matches and always tried to get other guy over as much as himself because he knew that the more guys he could help get over, the more guys he'd have to draw money with. HBK was too doped out of his mind to care at that point. The "Elite" function in an even worse way, and their boss was stupid enough to actually give them official authority roles in that company, and to my knowledge, those guys don't have any serious alcohol or drug problems. They're just short-sighted. Your goal as a wrestler isn't to bury your opponent. Squash matches shouldn't be your thing. Your goal is to make sure that while you look good, so does the other guy, because then you can make money with them.

Idk why after the Curtain Call Vince didn't punish Shawn too. Obviously Kevin and Scott left, so he couldn't do anything to them. But even though Shawn was champion, couldn't Vince have just took the belt off him the next chance he got and gave it to someone else (like Bret or Taker for example)? It doesn't make sense that Vince just couldn't punish Shawn because "he was the champion"

Vince is sort of just weird like that. He did it with Warrior and Hogan too. He's like a kid with his toys, and he has his new favorite, along with his old favorite, and he can't resist bashing them together. I imagine he put up with Shawn for the same reason that he offered Bret a 10 year, 10 million dollar contract. He felt like he couldn't lose them. Yet, the second Bret got Austin over big in the I quit match, he starts switching gears. I mean, you notice just how quick he dropped Shawn once Austin, and then the Rock, started to rise.

It's arguable that the locker room politics coupled with the competitive nature of the people of the generations of the 80s and 90s is the reason why wrestling was so much better back in the day. McMahon and many other legends have claimed that today's generation are not cut from the same cloth hinting that the locker room is more of a team and yes men and women not willing to push their creative direction. I think Vince's comment about nobody wanting to take the brass ring was a reference to how people are scared to risk their jobs and fight others backstage for the top spot today, instead opting to go with whatever their given. People like hulk, warrior, the Kliq and every other big star fought their way to the top backstage and rarely cooperated. Today, everyone does what their told and honestly I'm sure the backstage area was similar but the legends never followed a script. Had the legends botched their off script promos they would have probably been treated the same as today's guys and girls. My point is that the backstage heat and politics probably created a more competitive environment which led to better wrestling. These guys today also lack the training those guys had years ago and probably have every right to fear going off script, but if highly successful, I'm sure they may have a chance at being a top guy. If they fail miserably, they are probably fired on the spot which is why everyone is on pins and needles, but the legends were probably treated the same. If punks pipebomb was legitimately an offscript shoot, than that is another example of going off script successfully and not being fired. Not saying I'm right, but it's funny how all the pro wrestlers we loved as kids were a bunch of backstabbing locker room politicians and today's wrestlers all seem to get along well and probably wouldn't dare politic in the back. It's just something to think about.

Yeah, in that same vein, if wrestlers do take initiative, they get buried, suspended, or fired. Look how many wrestlers have turned themselves into awesome performers in TNA, AEW, Mexico, or Japan. Why are they greater than they were in WWE. They are held back or limited, now they are in places where they can wrestle their styles, develop their preferred personas, and cut their promos.

They get in the back and it's all smiles and taking pictures. Rocky may have even asked why he went crazy. Was told it was part of the show. Been a minute since I watched. So can't remember the specifics of the conversation. But you don't even need the sound on to see the inconsistency of his behavior in public and the back. That being said. For so many people like Cornette acting like four performers breaking character AFTER the performance was over to say goodbye to one another because two of them were leaving is some type of disgrace because of some garbage internal rules that you aren't supposed to ever reveal that you aren't your performing persona 24/7 is the epitome of why 99 percent of the world looks upon wrestling as a whole as one big disgrace.
