Stone picking was one of the things kids and grandkids were for. At least that's what my grandpa thought. LOL.

My dad always said when picking rocks you have to leave some for seed. Always enjoy your show.

Bill is a power puller .Like the way he turns his head around to check when you stop to pick up the stones. We had two Belgians, Dina and Donna , back in Quebec in the 40's, picking up endless field stones and pulling hay wagons.One hay field was high up a hill. .Stacked up with hay it was a master team effort coming down. After work we rode them bareback into the lake.

Quite a rock pile you have there Jim. Bill sure was feeling good nice to see him trotting along. Skippy was enjoying his hoof treats my dogs used to love them when the horse got trimmed. God bless and keep safe .

I love picking rocks. Peace and quiet and no one bugging me. We picked rocks 5 to 7 people 20 feet apart up and down the field. Do a quarter in no time. Every rock is picked. Great job Bill.

If I lived closer, I'd offer to come pick up rocks for the taking and use in my landscaping!!

Ken's hoofs look remarkedly good! He is such a good boy in the stocks standing so quietly.

Being from Connecticut, in our yard , like most everyone had a garden , always a contest to see who got the biggest tomatoes, well we did well until my father got an AIREDALE TERRIER, who the callKING OF TERRIERS, our AIREDALE would walk through the garden sniffing at the tomatoes, when he came across a nice big ripe one, BINGO it was his , what always amazed me was the amount of rocks that every spring would be in the garden, from what I was told , the frost pushed them up from the ground , as you mentioned your stone wall , well every year , my father would have us kids gather the rocks ,and he built a dry fit stone wall the whole width of our yard .

Ken is such a good horse 🐎 He knows what needs to be done when he is in the stalk. Skippy checking to see what he can get to snack on. Haven't seen to many kittens around as maybe they see Skippy and they leave not to get chased by him.. Bill is such a great horse as when you stop to pick up rocks and then off loading the rocks and he just waits for you. That is trust and great training of your horse's Jim. Nice rock gor Brenda. I hadn't seen a shoeing stock before watching you. I can see that it might get a bit uncomfortable at times for the horse. But when working on such large horses. I can see that it saves injuries to people and horses both! I would definitely use one if I had to do the work you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Is Pansy doing better with eating grass? Hope she's adjusting to her new surroundings now! That ole saying, "having big shoes to fill" suits Kenny literally! That boy does have big shoes!🥰 He's such a gentle horse! Love him! I'm really missing seeing Lady more. I'd love to see how she's doing in these last weeks of this pregnancy! And how much weight she's gained this time vs her pregnancy with Bree! Seems like she's bigger this time than while in foal with Bree. Jim, all those stones are saleable. I had a folk band band grew up in my kitchen, and our mighty fine fiddler was a stonemason. He often spoke of days spent "picking rock". Apparently it is not an "extractive industry" to take from the surface. He and his partner built stone walls, whole houses, gateways, fireplaces, you name it. And you have great piles of already picked rock just waiting for a stonemason. "I'm not a shoer........" coming from a man who in his younger days shod his own. You certainly know what you are doing. Bill is a goer alright and he really enjoyed getting into second gear. These are the moments that remind Jim of why he loves working with horses. What a powerhouse Bill is! Greetings from Australia.

Jim and Brenda, the Shoeing stocks would certainly save you from getting leaned on by a heavy horse and save the farrier from getting crippled up in the lower back area. Great load of logs arrived today in the great Western Star Logging Truck. Ken sure grows a great hoof. Bill certainly gives all the energy he has when in harness and drawing the load. Wow I had no clue dogs could eat hoof clippings. When I saw Skippy snatching them up when you were working Jim I got nervous but when you didn't stop him I figured it must be ok. Very interesting. My old disc is a 12 foot, (if I remember right), but it is fairly light. I had a lot of fair sized rocks in the fields so I built a basket of sorts over the back gangs and started picking up rocks and tossing them in the basket. That served two purposes for me. It got the rocks out of the fields and made the disc cut in better. The horses probably wouldn't appreciate that, but my Oliver 1850 didn't notice. Another interesting video. Thank you

Back in the late 60's and throughout the 70's, our "Big" tractor was an Oliver 1850 gas wide-front. I think our disk was around 14-16 feet. We pulled a 5-14" bottom plow with it.

I know nothing about what Ken needs but plowing bare footed in such a rocky piece of land for a crop of corn, will that affect his feet? Now mind you I’m not saying you’re doing anything wrong because I believe you know what is best for your horses. No doubt in my mind you know what’s best. I am asking this question because I don’t know what’s best. I watch other horse farmers and you’re definitely the best at what you do and I have a lot of respect for you and Brenda. I know William is not family but I also have a lot of respect for him because not only is he working for you but he has to take care of his properties ( livestock,crops and anything else that pops up)and most importantly his family is his number one priority. So if you can give me an understanding of what Mr.Ken needs I would appreciate it.Thank You, and I’m always watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 Just an old city boy from Miami.

Jim you may want to consider laying the stones you pick out of the fields around the end of the drainage pipes and pond to eliminate erosion. Plus they look nice when your done.

Boy that ground is wet. I hope you get a dry spell to get sowing. I really take this light sandy loam for granted around here. Only downside is in a drought year we really get hit hard and everything burns up. I picked one stone on 20 acres this spring, everything else just packed right in with the roller.

I am very interested in how you got into shoeing horses specifically since when do you do it, who taught/showed you how, what was the actual first time that you took the tools and started doing the work of trimming and shoeing horses ? It is such a good job to know when having horses, knowing how to shoe and how to train horses for the purpose of what you want and what you do makes you all set, it is amazing !

My favorite job in the mid 60s was picking stones... Not. It was hard work. I worked on a farm in West Groton NY. We used a stone boat behind a tractor. It was up and down

Did your Amish farrier go to some sort of training or did he learn the trade from someone else? I doubt whether he went to a farrier training program.

Back in the 60"s and 70's, I used to make a little spending money for going to the various County Fairs, by picking rocks out of farmers fields. Around the 0:25 mark, Pansy quickly turned her head around as if to say,.....are you filming me taken a poop?!?! Around the 15:58 mark, Jim says that Pansy is not too bright, and Brenda says that Pansy is Sweet, don't say that about her.

Have you dealt with a horse/horses tha tare spookey around water such as what you went through? what about run away horses? how do you learn to trust them on your stone boat? Milion dollar question for me as I usualy use both my haflingers on everything. last time I had them on the boat together; I had a flying saucer behind them.
