Jillian Rebekah Tacoma TRD Shortbed Rig Walk Around Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Part 2 with our friend Jillian Rebekah and her 2016 TRD Tacoma Manual Transmission Shortbed Overland Build. Her approach is to wait until she encounters a consistent problem off the grid, then research and upgrades as she goes. It's a practical, and efficient approach that will result in an build that is specific to individual needs.
Head on over to our community and say, "Hi". We'd love to answer your questions about overlanding and help get you started!

    I really like her common sense approach to her rig. There are so many "posers" out there that just buy stuff for looks and not for function. It's cool that she mainly buys stuff when she actually needs it. Nice rig!!

    An interesting tip when using a highlift Jack on your rock sliders open your door and then jack it up this way if the jack slips it won’t smash your window or damage your door panel it will just fall into the truck.

    Nice rack(cage)! That's the one I'd like to have. I'm super jealous of your setup. I have only been able to afford a few minor mods on my 18 taco. So far just the pro grille with tss garnish, pro hood decal w/scoop vinyl. Letter inserts for the "Tacoma" on the tailgate, and tinted the front windows.

    Sweet rig! The part where you mention there are other option bed racks sitting on the bed rails and causing bed flex. Yes, this is true but it's an easy fix. It's called Total Chaos bed stiffeners. Problem solved so you can mount any bed rack without worrying about flex. Just putting that out there so no one worries about finding a specific fabricator to make a bed rack for you to fit on the bed floors.

  • @kentwood5540

    realistically, how many people have any or enough bed flex to care or notice? has anyone on here ever heard of "bed flex" being a problem other than an "idea". I've never heard of it other than as a concept idea rather than a true issue.

    I think your location for the Rotopax fuel containers is a pretty safe in regards to vehicle collisions bursting them. Something to consider if you change the setup

  • @JillianRebekahMountainYot

    @JillianRebekahMountainYot

    6 жыл бұрын

    I agree, not so worried about the location. I had a bolt snap on the mount a few months ago, on the freeway at 70 mph. Probably just a freak failure, but it's made me a little concerned about the remaining rotopax...( I used to carry 2 more) There is no perfect solution, I am just keeping my options open right now :)

  • @LitoGeorge

    @LitoGeorge

    If it was a pure bolt failure, are you familiar with different grade bolts? They increase in strength, sheer etc. Example grade 10>grade 5

    Hi Tom! It is the Jalama from HiTenets. ...And yes, it is considered a 4 season...It is ruggedized, and I still believe they use the thickest canvas at this price point. I used it all last winter in the Sierra and Death Valley Winter conditions. It holds up to high winds and hours and hours of rain like a champ. I was very impressed and will camp through the winter with it again this year :)

    Pretty good for an obvious first-timer. Props for suspension choice, go for the best you can get your hands on right off the bat. The whole bed "cage" thing is a little overboard. I guess you can get away with having stuff hanging outside like that out west where there are few trees, but in most of the places I go, you would never get away with having the first aid box stuck out there like a sore thumb just waiting to get smacked.
