Jill Scott On I'm a Celebrity, Lionesses & Coaching at Man City | Overlap Exclusive

Спорт

In this episode of The Overlap, I sit down with Jill Scott, one of England's most accomplished and loved female footballers.
Filmed in her very own coffee shop in Manchester Boxx2Boxx, Jill opens up about her journey to becoming a footballer, from her childhood experiences to the challenges she faced along the way. As a trailblazer in women's football, Jill also shares her thoughts on the current state of the sport and the strides that have been made in recent years.
Of course, we couldn't talk to Jill without discussing her time playing for the Lionesses and winning the women's Euros. From the highs to the lows, Jill takes us through some of her most memorable moments on the pitch and what it means to represent her country.
Jill's career isn't just limited to playing. As she transitions into coaching, she shares her plans for the future and what it's like to be a mentor to the next generation of footballers.
Jill also made an appearance on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! She spills the beans on what it was like to take on the challenges of the jungle and how the experience changed her perspective on life.
So grab a coffee and join us for this special episode of The Overlap with Jill Scott. Don't forget to like this video subscribe for more exclusive content, if you like.

What a fantastic interview!! Seeing Jill's struggles and how she came through them. My daughter had no interest in football, April 2021 she went to football club at school to try it and loved it. She then joined a local girls team and really enjoyed it. Everyday she went into school, she had boys telling her she shouldn't play football, she's rubbish at football, they wouldn't let her join in with football as she was the only girl who wanted to. She used to get quite upset by it, but kept going. However 12months later, she asked to stop playing as she didn't enjoy it anymore. I can't help but feel all these comments and bullying from boys at school contributed to her stopping playing.

So sad that mate I've had a similar experience my daughter is 4 and loves playing football and is always playing in the garden. I picked her up from after school club and she was stood at the side watching. I asked why she wasn't playing and she said they wouldn't let her I was heartbroken for her because that's all she wants to do. I have to be honest though I'm 37 and thinking back to when I was a kid no girls ever wanted to play football with us but I think if they did we'd have all probably said the same that girls are rubbish and can't play football it seems to just be what we're told from a young age. It's sad really and I'm glad to see it's changing slowly but surely. Keep encouraging your daughter mate as I will with mine if they want to play they can play. All the best.

I love the overlap as always but I think is an important episode and probably one of the best you’ve ever done. I really enjoy the relaxed / getting to know the person interview style Gary brings, he is superb as always and it just goes to show what an inspiration to young girls Jill Scott is, she comes across as a really nice person. To be honest I was getting a bit tired of seeing her on TV and I don’t particularly enjoy the amount that the media is thrusting women into punditry on the men’s game at the moment. However this episode has changed my opinion on that and given me more respect for what she went through to get where she is now, I think sometimes you need someone you respect to open your eyes to things and I think Gary is doing that here with this episode, I also didn’t know about his mother or sister so this is obviously a cause he believes in. Every young girl should have the chance to play football at school, I never understood why there was a girl in my class who could not be selected even though she could dribble past half the male squad we had at the time (1998 aged 12) Respect to you both 🙏

I dislike Gary Neville as a commentator with a passion, but since watching him host The Overlap, I have found a bit more respect for him. His recent mental health interview with Dele Alli was ground-breaking, & this interview with Jill Scott is just as eye-opening. Much more must be done to promote equality between mens & womens football, not just for us, but for future generations of Lionesses.
