Jigme Yoser Thinley - Governing for Gross National Happiness

The Honourable Jigme Yoser Thinley, the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of Bhutan, who is dedicated to improving Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness as opposed to its Gross National Product.
Lyonchen (Prime Minister) Jigme Yoser Thinley was the first elected Prime Minister of Bhutan, a position he assumed in April 2008.
Born in 1952 in Bumthang, Thinley was educated at Dr Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong and graduated from St Stephen’s College in India. He obtained an MA in public administration at Pennsylvania State University in the United States, and a certificate in manpower planning and management at Manchester University in England.
