    Good review! I have the Abbreee branded units, and they are programmable by Chirp under AR63, I also found that the TXQ can make it to transmit on 2M band, so I suppose its a hardware UV band radio but software only allows it to work on one of them at a time.

    I did a quick range test, Quansheng K5 at home in a heavily built up neighbourhood, Wurui G63b in the car off its stubby little aerial and we achieved 1.5 to 2 miles driving in-between hedgerows. Very impressive audio. I dare say the SWR would improve with a longer antenna.

    @@pepe1 Got my first G63 from eBay and the second much cheaper from Banggood. Both came with charger base but you're best using usb c to charge as the bases drain the battery when unplugged from mains power. Think this is due to lack of diode protection. Wouldn't want to leave them for days charging on the bases.

    I have noticed that these G63 aren't much good for UK PMR. They transmit voice to be heard on other radios but you cannot hear voice back from other UK PMR radios without pressing the top monitor button to enable voice to be heard. Any ideas how to get round this problem 😕 Besides Chirp, any other software for the Mac? Thanks.

    By default, CTCSS or DCS tones are enabled, causing this radio to filter out calls from other radios unless they match the code/tone. To receive calls the tones/codes must match, so either have the other radio transmit matching codes, or configure this radio to disable tones/codes.

    @@quentinbush in that case, no idea sorry. I'm using a G63 (programmed via CHIRP on Mac) in combination with various other PMR radios in the UK and it's working fine. One other thing to try is check the compander is off in CHIRP, it seems to behave weirdly compared to other radios.

    @@hugov392 Thank you for your assistance. I had nothing to lose, I managed to copy a PMR frequency and the radio became audible only on that frequency on Ch 1. Reading the write settings, the SPEC Code has changed from FFFFFFF to a series of numbers and digits but only on Channel 1. Copying that SPEC code into every channel and the radio is now audible on every frequency transmitted from several different PMR sets. Changing the squelch to 2 makes no difference. It may be because it is a G63B model.

    I'm looking for two radios that should only be used with each other and should work about 2 km in the city! Are these devices suitable for this?

  • @jimmy81sg

    @jimmy81sg

    11 ай бұрын

    You'll be transmitting on the PMR frequencies in your region, which will be used by everyone else there too. So any wt you get won't "only be used with each other". Everyone on that frequency will be able to listen in and maybe interrupt your conversation. As to the range of these units, depends on terrain and how densely built-up the city is. For these units, they wouldn't go beyond 1 km in the city, ie, if there is clear line of sight!
