我仲有一啲建議： 1）好多時份工可能遠所以人工高都好似唔係好化算，但係你呢份工嘅salary係幫到你bargain下一份工嘅salary。下個僱主會覺得你之前有人俾$X 嘅salary你應該值得呢個價（甚至更高） 2）如果你諗住買樓，mortgage會睇你份人工，多啲人工會易啲借錢（即使你其實搭車都洗突，但係銀行唔會睇你用幾多錢搭車）

Thank you Kyle for sharing your experiences with our fellow HK-Canadians!!! If I may, I'd like to add a few more points and hope they are beneficial to those job seekers: 1) Key #1 before even accepting a job interview is to do a thorough check on GLASSDOOR for employees' reviews just to get a sense of any negative stuff!! 2) Most Canadians are quite laid back (depending on industry & vibes from the company) so don't be afraid to show a bit of sense of humour... it'd only help the mood of the interview 3) Back to Kyle's first point of self-intro... just be clear & concise (no more than 3 mins!) about your background, i.e. education, why you chose this career path, what kind of good stuff you've gained over the years AND also quite important, what do you do for fun (travel? food?).... I find that most HR and hiring managers do appreciate tidbits like this!! Hope that helps and good luck!! ^^

個人經驗：份工越高職位面試次數越少，可能只係兩個，HR同大老細，而且有啲公司仲會安排晒兩個面試喺同一日。 溫哥華好多工好難請人，所以人工並非大家諗得咁差，只係搶返黎嘅人才同本地需求有差異。

@AlvisChan-ng2yt 揸貨櫃車: there are main two kinds, one is employed, for an experienced one average earn C$27-8/hour. another one is self-employed, or called operator. usually long haul driving : 長途貨車 . operator own /lease own truck, paid owns gas and insurance, they got paid by order, not hour. And many long haul driving are partner with one another, or they are couple. it is more safe that way, and they can take less break and finish the order in shorter time.

In the states, it is done in one day. Usually, I spend 30 to 45 minutes to talk to each interviewer. There are around 7 interviewers. No company in my own experience was going to check references except I was a new grad years ago. After it is done, I am very tired. I am an engineer in semiconductor industry (not software). Usually, I could tell if I get an offer by the end of the day by “reading between the lines”. If they ask me when I can start, it is very obvious I am going to get an offer. The company is responsible to fly and reimburse all the travel costs for the interviewer so they want to get it done in a day.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My wife also worked in tech as a recruiter, and what you described is absolutely the way they do things. Having to line up multiple interviewers on the same day is a chore lol. Also, changing jobs in NA is such a huge deal, especially when having to move to another location. Basically, you have to start a new life in a new place when you accept a new job in another city or state.

I'm surprise that the company required a HR staff to be in office 5 days a week. Most of the jobs now are hybrid. My company asked for background check and criminal check before hiring too. They want to make sure that you are a good candidate before putting an official offer letter, this is usually their last requirement. They ask me to provide 2 professional references and you don't necessary have to put down someone at your current job or your direct manager of that moment. You can provides names of the co-workers or manager/supervisor that your worked with in the past.

溫哥華工作有一樣嘢好，因為大部份都係新移民背景都好多唔同，又可以一齊生活一齊工作，所以新移民都係比較容易接受

呢度見工真係太煩覆，過五關斬六將，尤其是新移民，所以要有心理準備，upgrade自己，佢搵你好過你搵佢

@@SmallPotato-sp3ln $100k income each, net won't be $150. There are more income tax taken out than you think. Also, I'm sure he has other expenses to pay than meals, such as mortgage, insurance, car payments, etc... However, it doesn't mean that you cannot survive if you are not making $100k, just have to watch the expenses more carefully.

$100k is not minimum pay. BC minimum pay is near 35k given working 40 hours a week.
