Apology is not enough. I see huge flaw in the justice system. A root cause analysis should be done to make sure this never happen again. The cops, the prosecutors and the system should pay for what they did. Compensation should come from the who made this error happen instead of normal citizens.

Yes, this movie should have been in the movie theater for everyone to watch their story. Jharell did an amazing job.

The fact that the actor says he can still see 16 yr old Korey in the adult Korey speaks volumes about the trauma.

Yep he went as a kid and came out as a kid mentally... His life stopped at the age he went in and stayed there when he was exonerated...his brain has to catch up with his age..

@MOLO UNTAMED I agree. I think if the show was being accurate about Korey's time in solitary (and the real Korey seems to feel like the show was done accurately), then he must have really kept his happy childhood memories close to survive the solitude and loneliness and to stay sane.

Episode 4 made me cry. What Korey had to go through made my heart hurt.

I love hearing black stories from black ppl about black ppl made by black ppl. Ava did an amazing job (as expected) and Niecy Nash did great. And these boys deserve an Emmy nom. 💛💛💛

AfroAngola - The Emmy deadline was 05/31 - so they just got it in right under the wire - so the series is eligible for Emmys, SAG and Golden Globes consideration and it will get nominated No Doubt. A true ensemble effort!

Anna F. I honestly think Korey is special needs. Remember this was in the 80s and he was low income so his mother probably didn’t have the funds to get him check out. Hell according to the film she didn’t have funds to put on his books.

They are closet racists. Like in the days of lynching, they don't see Black people as human. So, it doesn't matter to them what happens to Black people. If CP5 were White, the same person would have spent 85K on ads demanding their release. I'm STILL crying... Not only for this story (which is definitely heart-wrenching) but for every "Korey" lost in an unjust system with no one to speak out for him, for the "Koreys" that never recover and for reality that at any given moment anyone of us can become "Korey" because just being black is all the ammunition that they need to try and destroy us. I feel so defeated right now but I'll die with a smile on my face before I live in fear or teach my children to bow down to the tyranny of a corrupt and unjust system...

Jharrel Jerome needs an Oscar nomination for this role. He was OUTSTANDING! Wow!

...just like the real Central Park 5 nearly killed Trisha Meili. "Vacated" doesn't mean innocent, dipshit. How did Trisha Meili get multiple size handprints PHOTOGRAPHED on her body? Why did all medical reports indicate multiple assailants? Why did all these kids admit in front of their parents that they did it? The cops couldn't have created this narrative because Trisha Meili was still alive and unconscious and as far as the cops knew her memory of the event was completely intact. If she woke up and said 5 blue eyed Swedish guys did it the cops would be exposed and arrested themselves. The cops were completely aware well before she woke up they had the right criminals. The fact that years later DNA revealed a 6th guy was involved in no way exonerates the first 5. They are guilty.

The acting in "when they see us" was phenomenal & breathtaking like i teared up from part one through part four it really took me through every little emotion possible.😭im actually speechless because no words could describe the intensity of this movie when they see us they automatically see "guilty"! & when they see white they automatically link it with "innocence". the prison scenes with cory wise was hard to watch like my stomach was turning dealing with his storyline but all this black excellence made me happy.✊🏾💯💕

When you go to jail at a very young age and spend a long amount of time in there you really don’t get older mentally, so I understood what Jharrel was saying about Korey and his situation .The age you go in jail is the age you stop growing mentally 🤦🏾‍♀️ I feel bad for korey ,he really got his childhood stolen from him

This is one of the saddest stories ... but I will say these young actors did a phenomenal job playing the role

The real men deserve everything not the actors who never felt wat their pain was

You can tell that Korey was scared, yet he still kept his truth and stayed through the abuse. My respect goes to him ten times more. If he lied and came out, he would not have had contact with the real killer. The truth would have been buried forever. They all would have been out with the label over their heads for the rest of their lives. He may not have been the most educated out of the five but he had the perseverance of a lion. To withstand his physical abuse and then to battle his own mind was a lot. It is unfortunate that they all were placed in the situation in the first place, but now Korey's voice is heard and I pray that this can pave a way for the those who are still innocent in the system, and that the black community, as well as the white, can do something about this. As for the linda lady. Her profits should be donated to these boys and others who've experienced this. Only then, I would buy her book.. Maybe not to read it but as a reminder of how pathetic she is and how these boys overcame this. I really can't believe some people in this world.

I'm honestly happy they didn't get a different person to play korey as a adult. I really loved Jharrel role as the child and he played the adult role astonishing

So this has forced me to do more research on the case of the Central Park Five, particularly Korey Wise because it's so much that is missing from his story. I was so touched my part 4. I cried too mostly from Mr. Wise story. This was so horrific for these guys at the at of 14 thru 16 years of age. However, Korey wise suffered so much pain in the prison at 16 and all his innocence was trapped in those walls in the holes of prison. Today it seems he suffers from PTSD and other illnesses that may not have a name yet because everyone in prison took advantage of him for being naive and 16. As Jharrell says here, that it's hard for the real Korey Wise because he is still trapped in his 16 year old mindset. That's make the pain even greater. I have one question, what happened to the officers at the first and second prison that let those guys beat that kid until he was bleeding and passed out? Did they go to prison, do they owe him financially for what he suffered under their direction? Did they apologize? Why we haven't exposed them more?

jadavision, Ava mentioned that everyone all the people who were portrayed in the movie were told or informed they would be casted etc. I don’t know if those officers were contacted but she did research on most of the cops who were instrumental in the case and nothing happened to them. Basically they weren’t held accountable for anything they did so it just shows you nobody was held accountable which makes me very angry. Those cops and prosecution advanced their careers by throwing away 5 innocent lives into hell on earth. And the real perpetrator assaulted 2 more women afterwards. Look at how many lives and families were impacted by the cops and prosecutors.

@@katlap3101 Just amazing that this happened, even when found innocent the people who broke the law to get this guys convicted, did not receive any punishment for their wrong doing. Justice has not been served.

jadavision, no and I hope they go after the prosecutor. She needs to be held accountable for what she had done. She is receiving backlash now but that not enough. I can’t even begin to tell you but I am sure you feel it too how wrong this whole system is for allowing this to happen.

Kat Lap On top of that, it seems (according to the film) their parents were being fired from jobs or couldn’t get one due to the case. They should also be compensated for last wages!

Lauren Cameron, I am not surprised this cases consumed their lives. We are not told everything yet, I hope more things come to light with this being in the spotlight again. Lauren, this was not right on so many levels.

I cried the whole time.. Just not fair.. when will we be equal?

All these men did such a great job !!! Anybody else felt more connected to korey ? 🥺 I definitely did

Jharrel was brilliant in his portrayal of Korey Wise.

OMG...Korey...PART 4...I suffered thru JUST WATCHING it. I can’t even imagine. Heartbreaking. Yes, they were financially compensated, but no dollar amount could ever make up for the childhood lost and the trauma endured. I’m happy to read that they r all alive and as well as could be at least. 🙏🏽 to them all and their loved ones. P.S. Salute to Ava and all of the actors/actresses for their amazing performances to convey the emotions of the actual CP5 and their families. I felt like I was watching a documentary with the actual boys instead of those who were cast. #oscaremmytonyandanyotherawardoutthereforJharrelJerome!!!

They were compensated but nyc never apologies and papers never gave them the same coverage they did when they were teens. A simple sorry was all they wanted but they rather give them 41 million. Sad

Berdy SaintCyr yeah it brought tears but also knowledge! I‘m from Germany and I had never heard of this case. I am glad these kind of movies/series are produced to show real people’s stories.

these young men portrayed their characters really well. I also agree that John Leguizamo needs some awards he has so much work under his belt.

Absolutely stunning performances by all of these young men. I hope they all get recognized for this story.

I have never been so changed after watching something. These young men did a phenomenal job! Korey, Yusef, Kevin, Antron & Raymond the system failed you in a horrible and disgusting way but your experience isn't in vain. As a mother of 2 black boys my job to protect them and educate them won't be faltered. And JHARREL sirrrr you touched my entire soul ❤️

The way Jharrel speaks about Kory is so true. He did a phenomenal job portraying him but his observation on how he's still finding himself and his youth is valid. Wow, so powerful and I hope he heals. I pray for all of their healing. Man. You boys did an unspeakable job.

My goodness. Can we talk about how incredibly intelligent these guys are? My goodness.

Binged the whole thing at 1 in the morning and let me just tell you that by the end I cried so much my bed sheets were literally soaked in tears and my eyes hurt so much I couldn't keep them open. I spent the first 50 minutes of the last episode just crying nonstop. Such a touching series that was executed so well by Ava and the actors 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

@@shermssx70 because his family was completely broken. Watch the special with them and Oprah. He was never able to forgive his dad for basically telling him to go along with the story and then leaving... Honestly I don't think I would either. I can't tell what was more heartbreaking to watch - the series or the interview with the real 5.

Jharrel did an outstanding job on his performance, down to the gestures, face expressions and speech. He was on point. They all did amazing telling the story. This was real eye opener when it comes to knowing your rights👏🏾

I feel sum type of way knowing I didn’t know about the Central Park 5 until the show😤🤧

Wow! We black folks can tell a million more racist stories of being wrongly accused. Never forget Emmitt Till. Remember when this broke national news back in 1989. Bravo 👏🏾 to the sister who brought the story back to life and now it’s seems that everyone is paying attention even after the documentary! Those real 5 brothers will never be the same but I’m glad to see that they are trying to heal from such injustices

the cast is so well spoken i love them and they’ve done such a great job. literally breathtaking.

What shocks me is that even when someone has confessed to the crime and the city has exonerated these 5 men there are people involved in the original case sticking to the story that these men are guilty. They need to be brought to book and serve time in jail.

Shout out to Ava!!! Thanks lady for bringing this out once again, so many years later after the last documentary! Such a great documentary and casting!!! My heart breaks for these men!
