Tapash Kumar Ganguly, son of Pt. Hirendra Kumar Ganguly and Nilima Ganguly and grandson of Lt. Manmatha Nath Ganguly, born on 24th December 1951. He was a full time lecturer in history at Bijaygar Jyotish Ray College in Jadavpur Calcutta from 9th January 1984 to 31st December 2011 as an Associate Professor. He also worked as an examiner in H.S Examinations, B.A General and SSC. Tapash ganguly developed a love of music from childhood. Encouraged by his father, he learned to play the tabla. His father taught tabla to him and others for free, promoting music. Tapash ganguly showed progress in tabla playing through his talent and efforts. He was trained by Pt. Santosh Krishna Biswas, disciple of both his father and grandfather Hiru Babu and Manmatha Nath ganguly till their death. He performed solo in the death anniversary of Lt. Manmatha Nath Ganguly in 1972, 1981, 1987. He took part as a solo player in different soirees in 1972. In 1985 in Shibpur Conference he performed with his father Pt. Hirendra kumar ganguly as an accompanist on sitar Lt. Soumitra Lahiri, Dr. Bhupendra Nath Shil. In 1989-91 he accompanied Pt. Shyamal Chatterjee, Pt. Amalendu Chowdhury and also eminent violin artist Smt.Sisir-kana Dhar Chowdhury along with his father on tabla. He also presented solo demonstration on tabla in Kulgachia in Howrah District.
