I've got to say, this bus is similar to our airport bus run by the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) that goes over the highway and then comes into the city to stop off at Kipling subway station.

The cost savings is worth it depending on a few things. One, you know what you're doing with the transporation system, two you aren't in a rush. Three, it depends on traffic in general. A taxi or uber will still have to deal with traffic so you might not save that much time. I've done both city transit from the airport and taxi, but from LaGuardia, though it seems very similar since they're both on Long Island. The real advantage to taking a taxi is you don't deal with the crowds. Otherwise just save yourself 70 bucks and chill out on the bus/subway. And ask questions if you're not sure. The locals will usually help you no problem.

I tried this route once after a flight back from San Diego, but it was on a weekday, and it took me 2 hrs and 59 minutes just to get to 42nd St-Port Authority, and then I had another 25 minute ride to Washington Heights on the A line. I highly recommend the JFK ➡️Air Train➡️LIRR if you are coming into Manhattan. Even during weekday rush hours, I find that it's the fastest trip.

As someone who lives within the Q10 bus route, I’d highly recommend everyone who’s at the airport and just wants to take the subway to use the Q10 Limited. It has fewer stops, so it’ll save u a lot of time cuz most of the time the regular bus stops very frequently due it also being used by people from south Queens to get to the subway stops!

If I was going to JFK Airport, likely transporting a couple large rolling suitcases plus carry-on & backpack, I would probably stump for the AirTrain, especially now its on OMNY rather then trying to get all that on/off a city bus without luggage racks. However, I think the proper question is to ask why does the AirTrain charges ~3x the regular transit fare? other then that because the PANYNJ can. The system opened almost exactly 20yrs ago to the day, surely a lower price could be implemented, or at least give the people back their transfer

0:46 You can use the Air Train to help travel near a subway station without paying the Air Train fare. Take the Howard Beach-JFK to exit Lefferts Station (Air Train Station) and walk (5-10 minutes) to Howard beach station (A Train).

Hi Thea, what an adventure! Thanks for giving us an idea what's its liked to travel from JFK to Manhattan by air train, NYC bus, and subway. Great video, as always. 41st liked 👍 I had never been on an air plane in my life. I have been to JFK a few times to pick up a friend. I lived about 90 minutes from JFK (I lived in NJ) I once drove to JFK 2 times to pick up my friend (he missed is flight) I drove back home and hours later drove back to JFK to pick up my friend. This was in the early 90's (no cell phones) Long story short I bet not that many people would drive to JFK two times to pick up a friend that has missed his flight home. He was happy I was still nice enough to come back and pick him up. Luckily the traffic wasn't that bad on a weekday. He treated me to dinner and drinks when we both got back to NJ. There's no way I would do that today driving to JFK because there's too much traffic on the road. Take care Thea have a great day 😎 👍

Traffic sucks but it is what it is. Last time I was at JFK pickup it took me forever to get out if the cell phone lot - which was packed. Curbside pickup at Terminal 8 was brutal. Only had to drop off/pickup at EWR once and it was in the morning drop-off/late night pickup (I live out by where Long Island forks). LGA is a lot better now. BTW - no matter how bad the traffic is OUTSIDE the terminal, its better than the TSA line.

I had to go for my Global Entry interview at JFK recently and I was initially going to take the A train to the Air Train, but Google maps told me about taking the 3 train to New Lots then getting the B15 to the Lefferts BLVD Air Train station. As a born an raised New Yorker, I was shocked that this part of the Air Train was free and had no idea. Sure its out of the way, but depending on where you live in the city (Queens BK pretty easy, Bronx or the City not as much) this is a very good option. And as you noted, as long as your not carrying too much luggage. Uber/Lyft is always easier but if its not too much pressure, why not hop on the bus! Thanks for the great video as always!

As I stated, until the Queens Bus Network is redesigned, you'll have to take the Q44 SBS to Sutphin/Archer, transfer to the Q9 to Rockaway Blvd, transfer to the Q10 to Lefferts Blvd AIRTRAIN and transfer to the AIRTRAIN. The Q3 is just a long-winded route between Jamaica and JFK Airport via Farmers Blvd.

i do this often, but when weather is good, skipping the q10 bit and walk to aqueduct N conduit ave for the A train. You will have one flight of steps to walk here (so plan accordingly for your fitness/bag weight). Walk is 15-20 mins. Not the nicest, but not the worst. 10-20 mins for airtrain part (depending on wait for train), 15-20 mins for 0.9 mi walk, 55-70 mins train to PABT (depending on wait). As little as 90 mins, as much as 120 mins once. Since transfers aren't timed, I skip transfers whenever possible.

In my 30 years, of which a lot was worked on the 'A' and 'C' lines, I rarely took as long as people seem to complain it takes. The running time for an 'A' express from Howard Beach is 1hr12min to...207th St! They were my favorite lines because they were so fast compared to anything the BMT had or the Queens Corridor. BTW, file this under "JFK Express Assassination". The Perpetrators? The good people of Howard Beach, who used the train as their personal $5 ride. Lined the station like veteran LIRRers. No airport people could get on. JFK complained, no resolution was found, and was scrapped.

Thats B15 --> (3) clocks in at 1 hour and 30 minutes; Q10 --> (A) clocks in at 1 hour and 10 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes - both options for Lower Manhattan. Q10 --> (E) and (F) clocks in at 1 hour and 20 minutes - option for Times Square. Wait for the Brooklyn and Queens Bus Redesign Final Drafts. If you're going to The Bronx via the current Network, you'll need 2 buses to link with the Q44 SBS (on the Redesign, the Q10 will connect with the Q44 SBS at Jewel Avenue and Main Street) as the Q3 is a long-winded route via Farmers Blvd. Best option is to take the Q10 to the Q9 (timed transfer as the Q9 is infrequent) to the Q44 SBS. The Brooklyn Bus Redesign will have the new B55 SBS to JFK Airport, which better benefits Brooklyn.

It’s what JFK LIRR has. LIRR+JFK= $15-17. Faster but expensive. Or, SUBWAY+JFK= $12.90. Slower but cheaper. If you want the cheapest way around anywhere, expect to walk more, & plan on having 2-29 hours of travel time. Want a faster ride, then pay up & you’ll be traveling anywhere from 30Min.-5 hours for the cost of an arm & a leg. I’d still take the Q3 to Jamaica, the Q44+SBS, & then the QM5/6. Or if it’s a weekday morning, then the Q3 to Somewhere on Hillside Ave that has: Then The X68.

Instead of a highway widening on the Van Wyck, they should've put a new subway line directly into JFK. But the MTA and Port Authority still hate each other.

The amount you pay for AirTrain to JFK from Jamaica is twice the amount than taking the subway. I would prefer the Q10 bus at Kew Gardens station without paying an additional $8.25 then paying $2.90. I do have an OMNY card but still would lead me to pay another fare. Taking Uber from my house to the airport to JFK would be at least $75-80 because of miles on the highway so rather take the subway or I can possibly take access a ride as well. Sorry $8.25 +$2.90

I no longer live in the NJ/NY area, but visit at least 1x per year. $16 round trip on the AirTrain isn't a deal breaker. I usually stay in Downtown Brooklyn so I just pay for the AirTrain and forget about it. For the total cost of my trip(s) the $16 isn't that much of a difference. Complete rip off for the AirTrain, but what are you going to do? I've mostly been flying to LGA recently so the point is moot.

You can use the Air Train to help travel near a subway station without paying the Air Train fare. Take the Howard Beach-JFK to exit Lefferts Station (Air Train Station) and walk (5-10 minutes) to Howard beach station (A Train).

@@jamallhayden2512 which way/route? Yes you can get off at Lefferts but then there seem to be no easy way to walk to A-train. Google won't offer you a sirect walking route, there are fences visible on Google street view... sure there is a way around but then it isn't 5-10mins. So if you know a 5-10 mins walk from Lefferts to A-train please share
