I love your videos Cap. This one has some things you did that made your job much harder. The FAF is a Final Approach Fix it's inside the Initial Approach Fix. The angle to join the final is less than 30 degrees and always 2 miles outside the FAF. This is called the Approach Gate. Matter of fact the pilot must agree to be vectored to a final inside that approach fix. The approach joined high at the FAF is considered unstable. Keep up the hard work!

The closer you get to ILS or a VOR etc the CDI will get crazier. So at the end even a slight roll will take you off path. If you have a zero visibility and you are still fighting, go around within 2-3 miles of Rwy, keep the traffic clear. I would say you boys do a landing competition where visibility gets worse every round. :)

Hi Mr.Grim Reapers, thank you for the video. Highly instructive. I have just few notes. ILS course are always magnetics except IF you are beyond 70N or 70S, which is not yet possible in DCS. Regarding "HEAD DOWN" in rea life HEAD DOWN is a no go! Your standby HUD or Horizon shall be always on the left or right MFD never on the lower one (except for specific ELECTRICAL failures or MFD failure). If the type of the aircraft is a multi crew airplane and depending on the flown procedures one of the pilot SHALL always be HEAD UP (AVIATE & NAVIGATE) while the other may be HEAD DOWN to accomplish the required task. And the reason is a golden rule : AVIATE, NAVIGATE, COMMUNICATE, IFF and ENGAGE/DISENGAGE. Thank you for your effort.

This is false, in order to get your IFR certification (Intrument Flight Rating) in the U.S which is required for a private pilots license, commercial pilots license and to pass military flight qualification. You must fly an entire 3 to 4 hour round journey from and back to the airport without looking out of the flight deck. To accomplish this the instructor will have you wear blinder goggles that block your peripheral vision up and to the sides while you are being closely monitored to simulate white out conditions. This test is also done at night, one day session and one night session. You will absolutely not be qualified as any kind of pilot in the U.S without passing your IFR test. As a DCS fan, player or just an aviation enthusiast you should know this.

  • @MondoChow777

And for the Aviate, Navigate, Communicate mantra especially when it comes to flying through thick cloud cover, aviate means fly the plane, not look out side the flight deck, human beings have a nasty habit of trying to gain bearings visually and becoming confused between visual flight and instrument information often causing disorientation regardless of experience level. Many crashes have been caused by this major mistake in training and that is why a IFR is so important to getting your pilots license in the modern age of aviation.

Are ILS ghost beams simulated at the multiples of the glide slope eg, wrong intercept height to high pouting you on a glide slope beam that will overshoot the runway and also lose the localiser as you get closer to the runway. Also ILS is not on the runway itself meaning you have to keep your glides slope and look for the runway apon loss of the beam.

  • @Jacob-qu8kj

Why does it start you at the FAF as opposed to the IAF. Is it stimulating you getting vectors or does this approach just have a LOM/IAF and you're using the DME to intercept the glideslope?

All that altitude/ DME intercept crap, scrap it. Just get to 3000 AGL, wait for the glide slope, and follow it down. If you don't have any charts, that's the safest and easiest way to fly an ILS in DCS.

THis sounds like simple stuff for someone who used to fly jets IFR in MSFS2020 and MSFSX. ALso, in civilian world, you need to have runway on sight when you get to your minimums (meaning minimum altirude from where you can see runway). THis conditions would be no go for mist planes I presume. SInce I just got JF-17, this will be awsome to try. I hope I did not got too rusty XD.

I have not personally researched autopilot in a real 17, but I do know the jf-17 in game only has basic autopilot futures atm, (att hold, alt hold,) and deka plan to add more autopilot features before the end of EA.
