JEWELER'S SAW FRAMES. Which saw frames are good for jewelry making

Ойын-сауық

What types of jeweler's saw frames are available? Which saw frame to choose for piercing metal? Which one do I prefer? Since I started with silversmithing, I have used four saw frames. The most basic one, then Green Lion Studios, Knew Concepts and Haymaker by LPF & Pepetools. I really like all of them and I use them daily. Today I will share with you some specifications of these frames and my personal opinion about them.

    Such a timely video for me! I ended up getting the Knew Concepts saw and I absolutely love it for its lightness and ease of changing blades! My husband gave it to me for Christmas and I was over the moon! I really appreciate this video and how you broke it down into sections that gave all the most important information - and then explained more about each. This was truly so helpful!

    good frame review and highlighting the some of the functional points of the saw. I wish you would of gave more specs. etc. the balancing point is a very important feature of this saw. I was wondering on this point for the other, but you did not show but one. But was a good beginners review! Thanks

    How have you found the Knew Concepts saw over time? I found it wonderful at first, but unbelievably frustrating over time-the saw blades just keep pinging out and leads to far, far more time spent trying to reinsert the blade and get it to stay put than actual sawing. It slows me down hugely. Have you found this to be something you have experienced?

  • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

    @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

    Oh wow, your experience is completely different than mine. I absolutely LOVE this saw frame and it actually speeds up my sawing process a lot. The quick release is wonderful and helps me change the blades in no time. I noticed in the beginning that if the blade slipped out, it was because the frame wasn't adjusted properly and should've be slightly loosened. But there's also a chance that there is an issue with your frame in particular - perhaps the screws are not working properly and don't hold the blade in place. It's a shame that this frame didn't work for you, it really is my personal favourite and I never had any issues with it

    Hiya Lady Stardust, a great video, thank you. I somehow thought you would come to that answer, I've only used the German style, adjustable back, & the Knew concepts. I love my red devil... I suffer a lot with atheritus in my hands/fingers so the very light saw is perfect for my use. I'm so glad you made this film as I don't think anyone else has done a four way comparison like this. I love your honest comparison between the modern re-workings of an old design that goes back a lot of years. If it aint broke don't fix it? But it was not broke as such just very hard to use, all three new versions of an old concept use modern design ideas, with up to date aluminium frames. So not heavy steel! The quick release on the red devil is also for me a winning design, taking the tension off when not in use is the correct thing to do, but having the ability to put that tension back on with the flick of the lever... magic!!! Again pain is my leading force in this... wimp...! LOL. You pay for what you get & none of these are as cheap as the old style, but the difference for me is well worth the extra money. So again thank you Basia for your video, stay safe... Steve x...

    absolutely agree with everything, Steve! Thanks so much for your comment xx I'm very happy that you enjoyed this video and, as always, pleasure to read your feedback! :)) For me the lever on the red frame is the winner as is the light weight. I tried my best with the comparision, but truthfully, it was hard because they really are all great. Also, for anyone interested in some more opinion, here's Randy's video which I found useful as well kzread.info/dash/bejne/onh6vJqkYrOtfZs.html Thanks so much for watching and take care Steve xx
