Singer-songwriter Jewel shares her incredible life story, from yodeling in bars as a kid to becoming homeless as a teenager to - just months later - getting discovered and becoming one of the most sought-after musicians in the world. She tells Guy about the mental exercises and Stoic philosophy she relied on as she climbed out of homelessness; why she declined a $1 million signing bonus; her "business plan" for her career and happiness; the conversation with Bob Dylan that may have saved her career; and what she’s up to now.

She’s so articulate and inspiring. I love hearing her speak.
I met Jewel once in Houston, TX at a local coffee shop. She was performing a late night show following her opening performance for Peter Murphy (of Bauhaus). I’d seen her opening act and she was so surprisingly fresh that I went to check her out again. After her set she sat and talked with me for a while and even drew some funny mouse pictures on a napkin. Never had any idea she’d later be such a hit. What I do recall is how genuine and sincere she was and apparently still remains.

Thanks for sharing and confirming Jewel's precious and rare generous authenticity.
You always had a place with your dad. Thanks for sharing this. I'm a biker, I was a homeless addict and alcoholic, now I'm in school to become a LADC
I am so grateful that my Granddaughter, shared this with me. I am enthralled!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼💖💖

Amazing woman, so much of what she says about coping is how i live from harsh beginnings great episode ❤ God Bless
🤓Jewel is so intelligent and interesting. I can relate to her approach in life. It's logical. It's mathematical, like solving for x in algebra. I've dealt with my own mental health issues. I became so much more self-aware in order to monitor my health. Life is full of choices. You have to make the choices that are right for you regardless of what others think. Kudos Jewel. You're cracking the code.
"the buffalo goes into the heart of the storm" - that floored me. hovv majestic/hovv humbling/hovv heartvvarming. I didn't knovv. thank you.
Phenomenal interview - what strength of spirit!

Wow, her mom was a Carroll. Irish heritage as well as German.
34:04 I LOVE this part!!! She’s SO right, and it’s so ironic, and in some ways hypocritical!lol not on Jewels part, put the people that think what she’s talking about!!
"just a slob like one of us": this poet, vvas bothered by that line; I didn't think it vvas enough, and that it vvas beneath her (oops) - all those years back. this intervievv fascinated me. oh man, hovv inspiring. hey Jevvel, I've a mental list of the amazing people that experienced homelessness (as I have also) and it's a vvild and telling list - you may have noticed some of them along your vvay (I vvon't spoil the nice surprise for you). this intervievv vvas a vvonderful thing to avake to to-day. thank you very much. XO, Portland, Oregon.

That song was by Joan Osborn, not Jewel.
OMG I remember Gregory Page! We used to hang out with him after his sets at Luna Park in Hollywood. Super nice guy and very talented.
If Bronte thought that of Jane Austin, she obviously didn't understand Jane Austin.
@34:13 approx H E L L O - I feel, the reason persons ignore the young homeless as they pass by and blame the children's situation on drug abuse i.e. is because their ovvn heads are not merely in the sand - they are purposely looking the 'other' vvay so as to not to feel affected. VVhy not offer them a job.
Jewel is a gnostic materialist dialectical Marxist. That was unexpected
Abort. Jane Austen knew everything about the human heart. Bronte, who I also love, said that Spitefully. So, here, after listening hard! Abort. Loves Bukowski, hates Jane....UMMM. Zzzz.
