2020... my tsunami shields bought 3 years ago, (right after they came out), they have been dunked, dragged through the sand, and pretty well abused and really have gotten smoother with age. Only maintenance is fresh water rinse after each trip.

Very informative video on all the spinning reels. I am actually in the market of purchasing a spinning reel to throw lures at the jetties and you had a couple of the reels I have been looking at. Now the Tarpon can try and spool you on that 10000 Saragosa. Another cool video idea would be if you went over the rods you paired with the reels.

Hey Jeff. Good video and thanks for sharing. Daiwa Ballistic EX 4000H: factory knob is a dual ball bearing unit. Pop cap off to gain access to knob screw. Mod suggestions: Votex 39MM knob, Smooth Drag carbontex drag washers. nite and day difference in drag performance. Reel servicing: CorrosionX grease on gears, oil on bearings, Ferrotec APGL11 for mag unit above the AR clutch (Daiwa will not sell magoil, rumor is that Daiwa will start selling later in the year) Sealed Reels: Gosa is my go to: twin drag, same main gear and sealing of the Stella SW. VSX: dunking day in day out, this is a good option. If your not, Gosa and Spheros are options to consider. VSVR: line lay on both X and VR are frankly subpar, especially considering the price point. Sold my X and returned the VR due to said poor line lay. Non Sealed Performance Bargain: Daiwa BG. Load up with CorrosionX grease. Mods: purchase the factory rubber seals for Daiwa Saltist to seal handle and handle cap on the BG. Main gear is cast zinc, but it’s big and tolerance to pinion is very good as reference is many reviews and tear downs. Tight lines.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzread.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

I've heard good things about the Tsunami reel. The higher end reels are more for offshore fishing,I wouldn't use a $750 reel for jetty fishing. You can get a decent jetty combo for $200-$300 just keep the preventive maintenance up on it.

Definitely more informational videos. I would be very interested in a more in-depth video of your setups. Such as what rods you pair your reels with and why. What lb line you spool up with, brand, do you use topshot, how much, and why. And what presentations you use each setup for. This kind of video/videos would be very welcome if it’s not a huge pain to make.

I have the Saragosa 10000 and Daiwa BG 8000 and I have to say I love my saragosa but the new BG is an absolute beast for $95 dollars. In my honest opinion the BG is ALMOST smooth as the Saragosa but I’ll see how long that lasts because it’s not sealed. Both reels are used for shark and jetty/pier fishing.

Great video but.......a bad line roller CAN affect your ability to catch a fish since due to its roughness and jerkiness it is always intermittenly creating erratic friction as you are trying to fight and reel that fish in.

What lethal were you using?say that the lt100 is much better than the other smaller ones. saltist say it is very similar to BG, but more expensive ..... BG6500 is maybe too much retrive 48"/ ratio 5.3 for kayak (bottom fishing with bait and little jigging)

Are people fishing under water now? I feel they are over engineering for edge cases. How much do you drop your reel in the water? How often do you fish in the rain for a long time. I would like to see more emphasis on building a quality reel that looks good, feels good and lasts a long long time.

Yea it's called skishing. If you surf fish alot you know that the wind blows foam and spray that's loaded with sand all over you and your gear. A reel with little sealing will fail in couple years. To have a reel you don't have to worry about in the suds is worth alot. Especially if you have had reels fail on a blitz.

While I appreciate the technology that goes into sealing reels (magseal oil, gaskets, etc.), I am not confident that they will prevent saltwater intrusion always and everywhere. For me, just give me durable and corosion resistant inner components, aluminum bodies, and make it easy to take apart. I would rather stake my reel's life on my maintenance rather than on some engineer's theory. And I bet that it will cost me less money.

jeff i jetty fish in central florida(sebastian inlet) and i just recently purchased boots with tungsten studs on the bottom. I would highly recommend them. you don't slip on moss or wet rocks and it takes a much bigger wave to knock you off your feet.

I exclusively surf fish South Texas and have been through pretty much fished most of the reels except the Daiwa Saltiga. When I say surf fish, I mean I either stand on the bars taking waves while fishing or walking out long rods through the surf for sharks and bringing them back to the beach to sit in rod holders. So they are exposed to extreme salt and sand. The BG lasted 2 days in the surf before needing to be serviced. The only ones I will use now are: Quantum Cabo, Shimano Stella, Shimano Saragosa, Shimano Spheros, Penn Slammer III, and Okuma Makaira. The Saragosa's at their price point are buttery smooth and have excellent sealing. Tried a Van Staahl but it was way to tiring for me to reel all day. I would imagine a Penn Torque would be fine as well.

Love your channel, thresher's, and drew's. After watching the videos, it inspired me to purchase a jetty rig. Looks like yall have so much fun out there. Bought a slammer 3 5500 and a penn carnage 9 foot medium rod. Cant wait to get it in the water. Thanks for videos and keep them coming
