I will never forget this game because it’s the game I decided to start Cam Akers in my fantasy playoffs because it was against the winless jets with a bad defense. Surely the rams were gonna destroy them and grind the clock out on the ground with Akers… Akers ended with 7 points, while I left David Montgomery on my bench, who had 29. I lost my matchup by 0.04.

I was just about to say something on this page similar to what you wrote. I'm a die-hard Chargers fan (since 1993) but back in 2020 I was in a supermarket in Riverside with my aunt and this game was on one of the TV's. I’m a Rams fan and I couldn’t believe what I saw when this happened. Now, on this night, December 22, 2022, after watching Zach Wilson get benched for a former CFL backup QB against the Trevor Lawrence-led Jaguars, it’s crazy to think how this game has changed NFL history so far (and may for years to come). As a Rams fan, I truly believe that this game was the breaking point for Les Snead, which caused him to trade for Stafford in the following offseason. At the very least, it contributed heavily to his decision and McVay’s desire to trade for Stafford. Looking back on it, although I didn’t think it at the time, this, along with the week 18 loss to the 49ers in the 2021 season, is ironically one of the best losses in franchise history. As for the Jets, I know that there were several fans that were angry that their team won this game. After watching tonight’s Jags-Jets game, they had good reason to be angry, as it contributed to them missing out on Trevor Lawrence by a pick and instead settling for Zach Wilson. Wilson looks absolutely lost, but Lawrence seems to be developing into a legitimate franchise QB for Jacksonville. These two quarterbacks could have been leading (or sabotaging) the other team if not for this game. In five years or so, SB Nation may have a video titled “The Unlikely Game That Changed NFL History.”

I agree ZW was a mistake. That said, in order to get TLaw, the Jets had to go 0-16. No franchise wants the stigma of a winless season. Just ask Lions and Browns fans. In hindsight, they should’ve drafted Fields. Problem was OSU QBs had a history of being busts. 9 teams passed on Mahomes bc Texas Tech/Big 12 had this same problem.

Don’t ask me how they determined that though. Could just be combined record, I’m assuming, but I could easily be wrong. That’s just what the announcers on the network said lol
