Ian Anderson is a great artist who lost his voice and breath too early in life. I must say this. I am glad you are still around though!!!

Ian Anderson always had top tier musicians, but he could never replace Martin. Martin Barre, has such an awesome strumming technic. Not to mention, the best lead guitarist in prog or anywhere else. Goodier got a great sound and damn good Tull Bassist.

Diversos músicos já passaram pelo Jethro Tull e a qualidade musical sempre se manteve, graças a Ian Anderson que é um músico exigente que sempre escolhe os melhores para cada função. Ouvir essa banda é uma aula de música. Sensacional.

This is what I call the "refined" line up of Tull. No matter what lineup, to me they have always been the BEST. This is one of the best live recordings they ever did. Beautiful Board mix, and Martin Barr is my favorite guitarist. He is a Master at what he does. It is a shame, they could not get this quality of live recordings, back in the 70s. Beautiful sound. Anderson's acoustic is a 5k dollar Manson, and I would love to have one. Perry became an awesome Tull drummer. Sorry for all the blabbering.

I was able to tolerate and still enjoy Tull up until the mid 2000's . I bought the DVD of this gig a few years back and gave up about half way through when he started doing the classics from the 70's. Funnily enough the vocals and gig were enjoyable when he was doing the very early stuff but then. . . . As you say it was "pretty hurting". I was feeling for him and his throat all the way through "Heavy Horses" and the songs that followed. In the late 80's and nineties he was able to get away with his vocal problems more. I know his voice had deteriorated , and everyone knew, but I didn't find it too bad. From the mid 2000's it was PAINFUL. Sorry Ian . I love you you . But . . . I wonder if anyone actually said anything to him?

  • @MaxBennie

The reason Anderson's singing voice has deteriorated is because of a vocal cord injury he suffered in the 1980s. By "Crest of a Knave" it had completely changed. But hey, he can still sing, and he's still on the go.

Those that decry the aging process and WHINE about the mere passage of time simply "don't GET it" (IMHO)so the band has to dial down the PA volume to accommodate the vocals....BFD!!!I like it just FINE (and can now hear the lyrics much better than I could LIVE in their prime!!). I once saw IA 'wow' the crowd with only voice, guitar, and flute for over 45 minutes in Ft Worth Texas with NO POWER at ALL (while technicians strung a rescue cable to the building next door) It was absolutely INCREDIBLE

He injured his vocal chords during the 1984 tour (i think), his voice is completely changed since then. He lost both the top and bottom end of his voice range. I suspects thats why he aldo plays the flute much more clean today, without using his voice to distort the sound. He just can’t sing like he used to.

Yes, although I've loved the band since 1969 and seen them live seven times, Ian's voice ruins the act now. It's sad to hear him straining through the songs, and the absence of Martin Barre doesn't help either. JT could have relaunched with a new vocalist (possibly female) or they could have moved into purely instrumental music - where their strengths certainly remain.
