JetBoil STASH VS MSR/GSI Cook Set-Up | Plus...How to Cook: Breakfast Sandwich!!
Hi Guys,
This week I compare the NEW Jetboil STASH stove/ cook set to my MSR/ GSI Cook Set-Up. The all-new Jetboil Stash™ is efficient and compact, maximizing your pack space without sacrificing that iconic Jetboil performance. At 7.1 oz, the .8L Stash is 40% lighter than the .8L Zip. Time to dream big, and pack small.
My cook set-up has the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 , the GSI Haulite 1.1 L Boiler pot and the MSR Universal Canister stand.
Plus I cook a delicious Breakfast sandwich with sausage patty, egg, hashb Brown, Colby Jack cheese on an English Muffin.
Keep Hiking!

Thanks Chris, great video. Thank you for illustrating the difference in burner noise. Seems like a big difference.
Breakfast looks good. Quick and easy. Scenery is tops. Thanks for sharing.

I’d say that is a super-duper sandwich to have out in the field!!😋 Enjoyed this video very much. I still like the low-key quiet of a Trangia alcohol stove over the can stoves but I’m rarely in a hurry either.♥️ Thanks so much!

I only have one setup and it works great much like your setup. I have a Stanley Cook pot and the original msr pocket rocket stove with canister stand. Everything fits into the pot and only cost around 50 bucks. Been using it for years and love it.

Hi Chris Brian here in your old stomping grounds of Montana . I really enjoy watching your adventures and the stories, I especially like your gear sessions I used to do a lot of packing in the Cascade MT of Washington in the 70ies we didn't have the light wait gear that available now long story short planning to modernize my gear and head out soon . Sorry no good stories of anything weird happening while in the Cascades but keep up the good work . 👍 .
Actually cooking real food and not just a water boil test. Excellent as always Chris! When’s the backcountry cookbook coming out?

Great video. I think the grooves on the burner itself is a great idea. Yes you can get cheaper and more efficient burners but the amount of times my Toaks pot setup has been knocked off my msr burner by the dogs tail is insane. I like the more stable set up of the stash.
Great review Chris. 👍👍

Good to know on the plastic canister stand...The heat exchanger stays put pretty well on the stove and helps on the boil. Thanks for watching BGO!

Great review, I have the same GSI coffee drip and sea to summit collapse mug. Funny when i was testing the drip at first on a regular mug in my kitchen, it does not stay on that well. It fits better on a sea to summit mug.

Interesting! It's pretty much made for camping! Keep Hiking!
Nice to see the comparison between the 2. I like the JetBoil speed, but I prefer the larger GSI pot and lid, which I believe will accommodate many more types of meals, including family size. The pan looks like a generic non-stick pan, so no comment on that. A small cast iron pan would be great, as long as one doesn't have to haul it on their back. Car camping is for the cast iron.

I got to say first off as a Minnesotan I love the hat. I looked at that Jetboil the other day but I already like my MSR pot setup and don't think it would be for me. I should do a breakfast sandwich sometime on an overnight trip or something. It looked really good.

Nice comparison video. Personally, I’ll take the Jetboil. Faster boil time and much less fuel used. Next time try some maple syrup or raw honey on that sandwich instead of ketchup. Keep hiking!

Thanks Tom! Maple syrup might work...I could slide a pancake in the sandwich!
Nice Sandwich Chris. I think the Jetboil will use less gas over a long period of time because of the flux ring. I don't like the lid on the jet boil though., I would have preferred it to be the same as the GSI. All the best and Stay Safe.

This may not sound like a very exciting idea for a video, but I would really like to see a video on kitchen clean up after you are done cooking. I love your delicious looking meals, but I have always stayed way more basic just because I did not want to have a mess to clean up after I was done cooking and eating. You could change my mind on backcountry cooking if you could show some quick and easy clean up steps.

Great video, I am so going to steal that sandwich recipe. My cook stove has too much sentimental value to replace with an ultra-light one, its a Coleman Exponent Dual Fuel Feather 442. Greetings from very hot Northern California 111. (43.9c) yesterday, but only 100 (37.8c) today. How wind resistant is the Stash? I sometimes use a Olicamp 1L pot with the Soto Windmaster stove which is very wind resistant, simmers well and is quiet. You can get the Olicamp pot with the flux ring, but I just have the normal one. Thanks for the vid.

Great comparison Chris! I recently did a video on whether I thought the Jetboil stash was worth it from more of a cost perspective if you want to check that out. I'm still not sold on the insanely high price tag of this unit. I also don't understand why they decided to make it a system when most backpackers already have a stove and stand. If they were targeting the new backpacker crowd why make it so expensive? Anyways, great video! Keep hiking!

@@basecampchris yeah I think they should sell the pot as a stand alone over the stove. Check out Paul Messner's video on the time trials he did comparing the Jetboil stove to the pocket rocket and wind master. Bottom line, the msr and wind master with the Jetboil Stash pot performed significantly better than the Jetboil stove. Thanks for taking a look Chris! Appreciate it!!!

I found the Stash to have a very poor stove. It had weak output and didn’t not do well in the wind at all. Soto Windmaster or Amicus with a Toaks 750ml pot really outperformed the Stash in all areas.

Agree...Jetboil is hoping that people like the light weight and larger burner...the price is an issue as well as the wind protection.

I would have used the same fuel brands for canisters. Not much but it deff makes a difference in the gas mixtures.
