I thought the MicroMo was going to be the best fit for me, but after using the wide mouth of the MiniMo, I am sold! It is great to eat out of plus the wideness makes it easy to clean up. And since I give guided hikes, it is better to have the extra .2L of volume for efficiency. Let me know what do you think?

Question. Does the Pan Stand fit in the plastic measuring pot in the bottom and, if so would that damage the heat fins?

For me, the footprint is too big. If everything nested inside, then maybe ...but then it would be a Sumo ...and I have one ...and for 90% of stuff, it's too big. I think the Micromo is the perfect size for solo use. If you ditch the stand, the auxiliary pot support and the cup on the bottom, you can get the weight down to an acceptable compromise ...but the lid is garbage. I'm considering getting a zip lid for mine. They are a little heavier, but a better fit apparently. A generic titanium lid is an option too, though then it would definitely require a stuff sack. I like the handles on the Minimo (though I wish they were welded rather than riveted) and wish both the Sumo and Micromo had them. I'd ditch the cozy then. I can live with the cozy though. For me, the Micromo is the better fit.

Everyone should pay particular attention to the wire of the ignitor. It is easy to bump when taking on/off the pot. You always want the wire at a 45 degree angle. If that wire gets bumped closer or farther from the burner (even though you can see a spark) it will not light properly. If you notice hard lighting, look at the wire position. I picked up a Flash at REI for $65 as a return because the customer stated, "Does not light consistently." I bent the wire to 45 degrees and she lights every time.

Good suggestion, the ignitor is a great feature, but it does need to be adjusted from time to time to work effectively.

My pleasure, I have had great success with Jetboil products. The lid on the MicroMo was a bit disappointing, I really liked the small size. But now using the MiniMo more, it was a blessing in disguise. I LOVE the stout size and the solid handles. I will be doing a review on the Jetboil 1.5L Ceramic Pot. It is the best pot solution for my MSR Whisperlite that I switch to for winters. Thanks for noticing my channel!

I am so glad you mentioned that it does not pack down completely. It is a key consideration to make as backpack space is always something to think about. I watched several other videos before yours and non of them ever mentioned it.. I love that you even went one step further and took the time to show us the two different (and one unconventional but very handy!) configurations you can pack the MINIMO in. This makes it so much easier for me to fully consider the pros and cons of this stove system!

If you plan to simmer foods, it is the way to go. If you just boil water, the flash is best

I have been using the sumo without complaints for years. Conveniently fits everything. If I needed a smaller footprint the MiniMo looks like a great option. I bring a titanium bowl/plate rather than eating out of the pot. Additional stove option just in case. Enjoying a nice meal on the trail is one of the best parts of the experience.

Great review. you covered both pros and cons really well. I would be ok with not everything fitting inside the pot. i use the larger gas can so i would leave that out and put everything else inside the pot.

@@OutsideChronicles minimo I believe will best fit my needs. Weight isn’t a huge issue as it will travel in a kayak and size is perfect for both usage and storage. It will be early spring before I get out to use it. But I’m excited to add it to my gear. Thanks.

I like to use the bottom plastic cup for carrying the pot around camp after using it to make coffee, makes it sit flatter on the the ground or table, etc. and protects the metal fins. by the time the bottom of the pot is cool enough to twist the burner off the plastic cup can go on without getting melted. You can also fit a bit bic lighter in the bottom cup (inside the metal part of the pot) as a back up for when the igniter goes out, also pack a few napkins or spice packets, etc in there.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm just getting myself a little solo camp setup going and I have ordered a minimo. I have a couple of friends who both have the flash model but I wanted something more controllable for cooking. I too considered a large titanium cup and a mini stove but I was impressed with what I had seen of the jetboil and the weight isn't my main concern. It's a shame they didn't think to make the pot ½" bigger so the pan top fits in too but as you say if you are bringing other pans it can pack with them. Thanks for the information and your views on this now I just need to find food I like to use and a tent that doesn't break the bank 😂

Thanks for this look at the MiniMo. I bought one a few days ago online, Jetboil was having a sale. I have two of the MSR Reactor series set ups, like the Mo series I use one burner for the two units but I wanted the smaller size and a coffee press. I don’t like the height of the other MSR of JetBoil units so I’m going to give the MiniMo a shot. I’ll have to figure a system to keep the parts and canister together, probably a waxed canvas bag with a draw cord. Thanks again from a new subscriber.

Great video - thanks! I saw the video you mentioned where they were able to pack everything into the pot, and I think the key is the fuel cannister, it looks like they were using a cannister from Decathlon in Europe which seems to be very slightly smaller than the Jetboil ones... I guess this minor difference allows the lid to close. I will try this out as I use the Decathlon cannisters.

I probably own 7-8 different stoves and choose between them depending on the trip and which is best suited for the adventure. Over the years I've acquired everything from ultra-lightweight minimalist "debris" stoves, to Trangia alcohol burners, liquid fuel MSR Whisperlite, and the MSR Pocket Rocket cannister stove, and even traditional Coleman two burner for car camping. I've used the Flash for many years and have to say I positively LOVE that stove. It's not perfect for every adventure and really really really wants to scorch food.....but I reach for that stove far more often than all the others......particularly when I know the main plan is rehydrating backpacking food and making coffee with the french press in the mornings. It's been everywhere with me from the Sierra Nevada in Nor. Cal. to the deserts of the Southwest....over to Iceland, back through the Whites in New England, and up through the Canadian Rockies. But as I said...it's a water boiler and not a "cooking" stove. Anyone have additional experience with the regulated burners on the "Mo" system? Can you really "cook" on them as advertised or in reality are they single-hot-spot scorchers as well?

My wife is bound to ask: "How many camp stoves do you NEED??" to which the only appropriate answer is: "Only one more!!" :-) I love the idea of the efficiency/fast boil of the Jetboil system but with a regulated burner because I actually do like to "cook" and not just make coffee and rehydrate pre-packaged foods which are often WAY too sodium loaded for my tastes. There's also the "low spoon angle" feature on the MiniMo pot which doesn't seem like a big deal but small conveniences can add up. I got some Amazon gift cards for Christmas and think you just made up my mind! I like to backpack but my wife and I did Iceland by camper van for 18 days awhile back and she positively fell in love with the van. The van was "base camp" and we did the entire Ring Road plus some longer hikes up in the interior volcanic "highlands" and loved every second. So we've been scheming on how to do a van build of our own with some savings we have set aside. In my mind we won't do a built in stove but instead we'd equip the van with the Jetboil Base Camp system that way we can cook in van or out as conditions permit. Anyway...it was a really good and comprehensive review. Love the channel. Keep up the good work!!

Regular stoves are great for many reasons. But fast boiks are great. My vote is for the BRS with an aluminum grease pot or Trangia sets but for small fast boils I love my JB Zip. The Sumo is intriguing too

Yea I have the 8" jetboil frying pan which comes with a storage bag, I just keep the pot stand in the little plastic bag it came in to keep it from scratching up the non-stick coating and store it in the bag with the pan. Its currently the only pot/pan I use other than the pot built into the MiniMo so if I'm not cooking anything fresh I just leave the pan at home along with the stand.

@@OutsideChronicles I do moto camping on my Adventure bike and picked up an Icemule cooler so I can take better food out there. Did a test and it keeps beer cold for 24hours so shouldn't be a problem bring some bacon and eggs, steak and veggies out there as long as I can swing by a gas station once a day to refill ice.

You had me at not needing the long spoon.

IF you need the pot-holder, THEN you likely have a pot. Put the pot-holder inside the pot. Then you don’t have to put it aside and possible forget it when just boiling water.

I have the Jetboil "Flash" which I love.. However been thinking of adding the Minimo because I like the theory of the larger/shorter pot size. I mainly canoe camp in the backcountry of New York's Adirondacks. Yeah weight is an issue but I'm sure I can ditch something I really don't need to offset🤣

You will love the MiniMo. The flash is a great ultralight option. But I will carry the little extra weight and size for the benefits of the MiniMo. I have not done a paddle trip in the Adriondacks in a couple of years. I paddle the Allagash last year and are returning for a slightly different trip this year. I will have to make a trip to paddle ADK, but the High Peaks call me more! Be sure to check out my channel, I have the Allagash trip, Pine Creek trip, and others as vlogs. I also have many of my High Peaks.

@@OutsideChronicles I ordered one today as I found a good deal. I love paddling in the Adirondacks and backcountry camping. The Allagash is on my to do list as it looks beautiful. Some of those Maine lakes can get nasty with wind. I'll definitely check out your channel and those videos, have a look at mine as well. I've only hiked Whiteface but hope to do a few more as time permits. Hoping next year to do a section of the NPT.

It’s It the cheapest, but it works very well. It’s very convenient and usable. It’s my go to , even though I have half a doz stoves. I carry the pocket rocket too, on occasion.

Subbed! Just ordered one to replace my MSR XGK. The XGK was just too overkill for me. Plus, it is insanely loud and insanely hot and takes way to long to start and stop. So, I have high hopes for my first Jetboil.

There really is nothing, not to like but the price!

the lining of the pot has a non stick coating, right? any metal rubbing it will potentially remove the layer. The means you can't use metal utensils. So I would recommend plastic utensils only and only storing thinks in the pot in the stuff sack.

Correct, only plastic utensils. The non-stick coating is amazing, but you need to be careful. I always use the stuff sack. Which is a great feature of the MiniMo, the MicroMo does not come with the sack.

I’ve been considering the MiniMo as well, but then a guy at the Paddy Palin shop said that you can’t simmer in it, it just runs too hot, even with the regulator turned right down, and you have to constantly stir or everything burns. He recommended the wind master, but it sounds like you can cook gently and simmer from what you’ve experienced? Also I heard that you have to use jet boil pots and pans on the jet boil products to handle the heat. Does that not count for the regulated jet boils? Can you use whatever pot and pan on the stove top? Thanks for any advice!!! 🙏🏼

Ive been looking at the MicroMo and MiniMo. I’ve heard many people have that same complaint with the lid on the MicroMo, so I’m leaning towards the MiniMo because of that most likely. Also, RE: the MiniMo lid not fitting properly when nesting all components into the pot: Have you tried just using a Ranger Band (large rubber band) around the whole unit when doing that? That should hold everything together I would think.

I love the MiniMo and am glad I swapped out the MicroMo. Yes, I think you could nest everything in the MiniMo using a Ranger Band. It just barely does not fit. I have not tried it, but will if I need to nest it in the future. Thanks for the comment and watching!

The stash looks like a great product. The ignitor I could take or leave, but one of the reasons I like the MiniMo is the regulated burner. Plus I also like the 1L capacity for group trips. My lightweight setup is a Toaks 750ml and MSR PocketRocket II.

I did not really say it in the video. I will still use the pocket rocket+titanium pot when I want to go fast and light. I really like the speed of the Jetboil. It does not seem like a hue difference, but I was using my PocketRocket for a week+ trip on the Allagash River. My friends were eating and enjoying hot beverages while I was waiting. I did not do an analysis, but I am sure I used much more fuel too. BUT, I did not like my friend's Jetboil's b/c they were unregulated. I prepared many of my meals for variety and could not do this in the unregulated burner. So I think it is a balance between weight and versatility.

SOTO WindMaster stove hasn't let me down yet but can see benefits of a Jetboil depending on what one is cooking.

A popular choice. I have head good things about the Soto. I have never tried one out or even seen one in use among my friends. It is kind of in between the Pocketrocket and Jetboil MiniMo for efficiency. @@OutsideChronicles only thing i could nitpick about the Soto is that it sits so high up off the canister. Not the biggest deal, just tougher to block wind. The newer one with 4 legs is great for holding the jetboil skillet and the larger sea to summit kettle which i use the most. Having seen more and more of Chef Corso's videos I do see the benefit of the jetboil all in one.

The issue you are describing is what can happens if you ignite the flame with the pot on top. JetBoil says to only light when the pot is off the burner. When you light with the pot on top, the flames can puff around and melt the plastic housing and the neoprene cover on the pot.

I find no flaw or such that would keep me thinking about purchasing one. It cooks fast and quick, cleans easy so I can then make a cup of coffee (which I pour into a small insulated drinking cup for on-the-go) as an option is the coffee press. Quick to cook, easier to clean than the narrower ones are, easy to put up. I have no issue with keeping my fuel canister separate in my pack. Great product.

The reason why I'm asking is because I already have a minimo but I prefer the size of micromo for solo travel.. I don't want to buy a Micromo. So the solution I'm thinking is to get a spare 0.8L cup or a 0.8L zip. Then I can use the fine control micromo burner with it, and turn it into a micromo

Yes, ironically it all nests vertically in the zip. The zip is the same cup as the MicroMo. I actually started with that model but did not like the lid. It falls off when you pour. The .8 fits the canister, burner and pot stand. That is the part of the MiniMo that irks me. Otherwise, I absolutely love it.

is the pot made off titanium or is it aluminium? Very good video ! you sold it to me 🙂

I can understand that. When I want simple, I go with my MSR Pocketrocket. When I want versatility or am in a group, the MiniMo makes sense. And in winter, it’s an MSR Whisperlite.

Great review, thank you. I have a MicroMo and it too lacks the ability to pack with the pot stand or retain the lid. Poor design in an otherwise fine performing stove. Jetboil refine your engineering please, good product but your missing the fine points.

Agreed! JetBoil made a few shortcuts with both products. With attention to detail, they would have been home runs. See you outside!

its too bad that the pot holder doesnt lock onto the stove like the cup does. IMO it would be a lot safer for the user.

It kinda clips into the burner notches. Just used it this weekend with the skillet and found it to be very stable.

put them all in a stuff sack together. I motorcycle sidecar camp so much of the super light or small are irrelevant to me. I also bring my pocket rocket or my 35 year old MSR Whisperlite.

LOL...My 25 year old Coleman Peak 1: Apex II died on me a year ago. I sadly "upgraded" to the MSR: XGK. Don't like it much. So, I ordered a MiniMo yesterday. High hopes!

@@OutsideChronicles I am gearing up for winter motorycle/sidecar camping, so it will be my go to for that. When my son was young, he went winter camping at the boundary waters with a couple other teens. They got stuck in a blizzard and the car wouldn't start because of the cold. He cranked up the Whisperlite, put it under the oil pan of the engine and got it warm enough to start. :). The MSR canisters are also good "emergency gasoline" for the motorcycle.

I have tried that. It works, but lid bulges a bit. I researched it but and the canisters in other countries are different sizes. I tried it with US JetBoil, MSR, & Olicamp canisters. They all bilge and would require a rubber band. The guy in the link is using a Decathlon (uk) canister.

@@Douglasmeyer0123 Maybe not different sizes among manufacturers. Paul Messner (UK) showed the same technique with JetBoil fuel and his lid had a bow to it like mine do. We do not have Decathalon Fuel available in the US, I do not think. It seems like the Jetboil, MSR, and Olicamp 100g are approximately the same height (2.8in or 68.6mm). In the comments, they say the Decathalon is 63mm. That 5mm will make all the difference.

So many dogs that need a good home. Glad my wife started working with the rescue. It is great to help a dog that was going to be euthanized find a forever home. The south has a different attitude toward dogs.

If you want to use a bigger pot like the JetBoil 1.5l, your own pot, or what I need it for is a frying pan.
