Jet Jaguar vs Megalon - Animated Godzilla Fan Film

Фильм және анимация

Jet Jaguar faces off against a more skilled, experienced Megalon than ever before in a desperate struggle to bring their loved ones back to life!
Tip: Pause at 00:34 to read the newspaper, it contains an important bit of context for the scene. I made it fly past the camera way too fast.
(SPOILERS BELOW)
I've been pouring passion, effort, frustration, and lots of time to bring you this Magnum Opus of my channel! There's a lot of reasons that I couldn't resist for making this film, the first being the Godzilla 50th anniversery short films being released by other fans and Toho themselves. The second is that coincidentally Megalon is my second Favorite Kaiju, and Jet Jaguar is the favorite for a sibling of mine, so this is a treat for the both of us. And finally and most important is how underrated these kaiju are, and how they've been treated in the community. Jet Jaguar and Megalon have appeared most frequently in lists of most hated kaijus, and have been shunned by fans and even toho themselves at times. (which is why I was shocked to see them release their own short films respecting these kaiju, to which I am extremely greatful.)
Jet Jaguar has always been viewed as nothing more than an Ultraman Knockoff, and made purely to appeal to children. To break away from that, I gave Jet Jaguar a more bulky design with thrusters that pop out to look more like a robot than a guy in a suit. (Courtesey of my previously mentioned sibling for designing and doing half of the modelling on Jet Jaguar, she did an excellent job!) I also gave him a purely human personality, being akin to a mute person, that way he could be more relatable and likeable. I also added more dark moments in the film to make it feel less kiddish, and like the more serious Godzilla films that most fans respect. But also what makes him underrated is that there is a huge factor that makes him distinct from Ultraman, that being his positive energy. Jet Jaguar goes into everything with a smile, and I love how unapologetically positive energy he is around all these other vicious monsters. He has so much more charm and style than Ultraman in my opinion, like just imagine 22:46 with Ultraman's Flat expressionless face. It just wouldn't work.
As far as Megalon, he's always been viewed as a childish, pathetic villain who's meant to be nothing more than a comic relief for kids. Personally I find the idea of a Legendary God belonging to a lost civilization with an EPIC design being summoned to seek revenge on humanity for destroying their homeland with atomic bombs - only for him to turn out to be a big crybaby who throws tantrums and constantly taunts and t-bags his foes to be absolutely hilarious and part of why I love him so much. While watching Wikizilla I was fascinated by the statement that Megalon is actually extremely powerful and deadly, but he just doesn't know how to use his powers. A bit like a toddler with a machine gun. I modelled this Megalon to be more menacing, experienced, and concentrated, with the very occasional taunt to opponents. He is essentially exactly as powerful as the Megalon from Godzilla vs Megalon, only with much more experience. I do honestly feel that my version of Megalon could kill Showa Godzilla by himself.
Another reason I made this film is to teach myself a lesson. For the past year or two, I've been a bit like Jet Jaguar at 5:42. I've had a desire for a special relationship in my life, and felt alone and uncontent without one. So I used Jet Jaguar and Megalon to teach a moral about being content without the love you want. All the tension that's built up in the fight scenes isn't because the world is collapsing, or because there's evil aliens trying to take over the world, or because there's an unstoppable force of destruction threatening to wipe out a civilization, it's because there's two people fighting to get back the people they love. And that doesn't really lower the stakes, because our loved ones are worth fighting for. In the end, Megalon did not deserve the Jinsei stone. But Jet Jaguar gave it to him because he needed to learn to be content without the love he desired, and he also knew Megalon needed it more. Gigan is the only one who really understands Megalon, and without him Megalon has absolutely no one, so you could understand why he'd feel the need to steal from Jet Jaguar. Weather it's platonic or romantic, love is one of the most important things in life. But it'll never last if it's stolen. The best thing to do is it wait patiently until it comes. And it WILL come.
I do not claim ownership of Jet Jaguar or Megalon, rights belong to Toho!
Shoutout to LiliumMusic for these awesone Jet Jaguar theme song remixes!:

This is officially the best Godzilla fan film I’ve ever seen. Truly deeply emotional, exploring a morality I was not expecting. In the end, love conquers all. What a wonderful message. Jet Jaguar’s mercy and compassion behind a smile is heart warming, and I adore how he honored Goro’s wishes by not succumbing to hatred or vengeance. A beautiful story. Thank you for this.

This is perfection It’s rare to find a Godzilla fan flim where Megalon and Gigan are more than just being villains I like that idea cause I made two video that’s a two part short film with megalon and gigan in the 1st flim they both fight each other cause Gigan was trying to destroy seatopia and megalon wanted to protect his kingdom and it the 2nd part they both take on mecha king Ghidorah who was created by apex cybernetics to hunt down megalon and gigan so their body parts (the drills and metal claws) can be useful for creating others mechs and in the end after taking down mecha king Ghidorah, megalon now respects gigan as gigan now made a friend who truly respects him, a friend he hasn’t gotten ever since he became a cyborg I’d love to see more fan animations where Megalon and Gigan have lesser villainous roles but rather also heroic roles too

Watching this a second time on a larger screen, as my first viewing was on my phone, and all the little details and Easter eggs are shining through all the better. What can I say? It’s a lovingly crafted film. And I appreciate it’s something different from a typical versus film. It has a nice message that humanizes these characters in a way we don’t normally ever get to see, which I think is a fresh new take. Jet Jaguar’s wish to understand and experience emotional bonds with others definitely brings to mind the likes of WALL-E or Chappie. And it’s touching how he ends up giving up the Jinsei stone for Megalon, putting aside his cherished wish so that another may have it granted. I read the description and I love the fact this idea comes from a personal place-I’m sure many of us have dealt with loneliness, that aching need for a special relationship. I know I’ve been there. And the lesson is absolutely on the money. Happiness comes from within, and a relationship is for that happiness to be shared-not to be its sole source. At least that’s what I believe. This film hits pretty close to home right about now as I’ve also been grappling with my own realizations about inner happiness and what relationships mean to me, but that’s a whole other topic. Suffice it to say it’s a profound and relatable message carried in this video. On a lighter note, I’m absolutely enamored by the Easter egg of my good ‘ol self showing up and faceplanting in the background LMAO. And that moment of Jet Jaguar giving a thumbs DOWN has lived rent free in my head since I first saw this thing. 🤣

The work that many beginner filmmakers put into making Godzilla fanfilms is incredibly special. It is that spark and blossoming glow of pure devotion that makes even the most amatuer of films special, reigning supreme in the hearts of G-Fans. Taking our favorite creature, beings who elicit such feelings of awe, and wander into our souls, and having the gift of giving the world our reasons why we love them through the medium of film. Fans who start off with this practice, though may not turn out great content, continue to work hard to reach that fantastic level. These characters and the technical wizardry that enables them to come to life and bring joy, awe, and fear into us inspires us to continue experiencing these wonders through our own creations. No better example than what this film has done to not only yourself as an auteur sir, but to all who view it. All who range from superfans of the title kaiju to people who never really saw their glory such as myself. What you were able to do, make the fiery love of superfans glow brighter than a billion stars, and ignite a new found love in people like myself, bringing us closer as a community to celebrate the 50 year long legacy these characters have created. You have delivered by far, one of the most impressive Godzilla fan films ever to grace the internet, and you have established a benchmark that all other films coming in the future will have to compare to. Sir, you have accomplished such a grand feat, and I cannot imagine the amount of hours you have slaved away to give us this magnificent work of art. I, a humble viewer, bow before your grandeur. (PART 1) *Spoilers* The biggest part of the whole film, of which the film is carried by, is the well-crafted story. A simplistic tale given complexity and rich depth through your expert use of visual storytelling. You have an incredible style and visual langue which lends itself to capturing magncifinet larger than life scope and scale. Evident from the very first shot. The Movement of the mother varan is very erratic, and crazed, evident by a immense distress, anger, and loss. A directed anger fueled attack - as we find out later by a newspaper clipping that tells the tragic events of the mother's child being killed by the JWSD. Every shot of the opening conveys a massive sens of scale as it shows the kaiju from the hhuman's point of view, and as we see Varan staring down civilians, the Kaijus perspecitve make the feeble helpless humans all the more insignificant and less than. the slow yet explosive movement helps to further convey the immensity of the kaiju's size. And the designs of all monsters here are incredible, exploring vast arays of shape language in a cartoony, expressive, yet very grounded style. I don't how you mananged to pull out, but it feels like if the Toho suits themselves were repurposed for a 3D video game, and aren't limited by the constraints and rigidness of material. As you mentioned with jet Jaguar being bulked up to avoid the the goofy stigma around the character. This is where I feel your strength lies - being able to capture the lighter personality, the more humerous side of characters without dimishing how Bada** they are. This mainly stems from the animation of each character. Jet Jaguar is given more human qualities than before which extends to some of the most heartbreaking and emotional scenes of the film. It is never te point of Jet to be a rigid robot - but to express the technical and beneificial support humans can craft for one another. The fact that this character consistently smiles even in the face of death shows how even though the odds are against you, humans are hardwired to be able to conquer problems. He smiles because....I mean his built like it....but its because, to me, its a reminder that yeah he could lose, but Jet is built with the purpose to overcome odds and conquer his problems. That's what makes him so endearing as a character. His internal conflict as established in the beginning is him wanting to find someone like him to have a relationship - the external problems is that there is no one like him. JJ is grateful for the life he has be without someone else like him - he has a heard time trying to be happy with himself. From most people go through - your happiness is found with others, thats the idea thats pushed, and the idea that is being challenged in this film. JJ is greeted wtih friendly faces all the time, and people who love him dearly. People, but not other like him. It seems as though JJ has alwasy felt a disconnection between him and other humans, even though he clearly demonstrates on acting like a human being. In this society, you have to look the part, acting is not enough. Once more, an idea this film challenges. Even though JJ is different, it doesn't stop people from showing him any form of love. The friends he meets and hangs out with at his birthday bash in the city, to his maker, Goro showing such care and affection to JJ. Love is shown as a beautiful thing, regardless of what it is shown for in context. Love for a parent, for a sibling, for a friend, for a partner. Love is the ultimate gift. But when you give love, the other half of the deal is unfortunately loss. We first see this with the mother Varan in her rampage before Jet consolidates her, and shows her his care and understanding. Jet acted as emotional transport, allowing her to absolve her anger, and while she is still saddend, she is no longer making her suffering a reason why she must attack. She is in the road of healing. Loss and tragedy can make people do violent viscious things. Sometimes, you just need a moment to process, and for those cases, a friend with open ears is happy to help. Sometimes, having sombody help you on the process is the biggest thing you can do to help yourself.

The setups and payoffs established are incredible. The early notes of loss in the opening foreshadow the most heartbreaking, and heartfelt scene in the entire film. But before that, let's talk about da pesky beetle god. MA GAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDD MEGALON WAS DONE JUSTICE, holy crap. The entrance of the monster itself was superbly done. Megalon doesn't feel more powerful, but more *experienced*, and way more calculated and composed, which i feel from reading your commentary was the goal. The angular design leaves a massive dangerous impression that keeps you on edge, and the masterful simulations made help to sell his destruction further. Every blast effect used was simulated perfectly and was SOOOOO satisfying. If anything to nitpick - perhaps be more vigilant on the simulation so buildings collapse. But having a more experienced megalon seriously aided the stakes, especially in Dr. Goro's last moments. My god. It's pretty apparent from the live stream of how shocked everyone was. The moment the car was picked up, we just knew. And the moment Jet got up and searched around, the beginning of Shindo's last stand playing the web backdrop, it was the perfect catalyst. He last words to jet address the many themese the film seeks to challenge - explaining to JJ the truth about happiness and the virtue of forgiveness. Firslty - marvelous voice-acting sir, secondly POOOR JJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He did not deserve this los and yet, it was absolutely necessary. Very much a master Oogway moment. The loss of Goro needed to happen for JJ to properly heal because from then, JJ would be at his lowest low - forcing him to climb back up. But before that can happen, JJ continues to dig downward in the hole that hes been dropped into by using the present he was given to fight Megalon. The messaging of Goro and the visuals themselves could communicate such a powerful story that i feel could've ended very much at the start of the fight because of how well the build and payoff was established. It could've ended on a poignant and powerful note, but that would have to wait because we gonna get BADA** BOSS FIGHT FIRST. The visuals of the arena, the twisting buildings themselves, and the spiky curving buildings that are upside down represent the hopes and dreams of humanity's bright future flipped upside down by the sadness of loss - the bright yellow light like a massive burning torch, and that jaw-dropping choreography. I'm sure this is the shot that everyone is talking about, I know you expressed it as your favorite. this is mine as well. 18:26, when we see the camera spin around both kaiju and wee see blue and yellow stills of the people they both loved - the root causes of their conflict. Both are dealing with tremendous loss, and the fight is not instigated by some alien attack or mind control. It is for love. One is seeking revenge for his dead caretaker, the other is defending their best friend to heal them with stolen technology. But under circumstances are struggling immensely, this fight was necessary in that, both would have to come to face to face with the reality that their goals are half-sighted. JJ's specifically. His pursuit for a new relationship while understandable was rooted in sight selfishness. megolon's goal to repair gigan was selfless as he intended to fix his best friend. JJ comes to terms with the fact that the selfless drive of others are more important - hence why he gave the stone to Megalon. JJ under the guidance of Goro saw that his enemy's needs were more important, and he was willing to sacrifice his own wants fo the needs of others. A true hero. and in the end, while JJ did not get Goro back, he gained the love and support of 2 new friends, and while the world may continue to suffer, there is hope with JJ - to be able to find happiness in your own world before finding happiness with others. Be confident in yourself, and that will only allow you to gain he affection of others. And to one day, find a reason to truly smile. Aside from animation being choppy and rendering not always looking the best, this is one of the most technically impressive, spell-bounding and profoundly deep Godzilla fan films I've ever come across. You are going to go big, I cannot wait to see what else you have instore for us on this humble platform. Bravo!!! Verdict: 9.5/10 - phenomenal story - animation is great overall with great visual flare - just needs some touch up on some rouch edges is all - Ya did Robojet and Bug boi justice! And I agree that THIS is your MAGNUM OPUS

I'm not at all ashamed to say this is my favourite thing to come out of the Godzilla vs Megalon anniversary. Toho may bring the spectacle, but I can always count on the fans to give it the heart. The story was a beautiful treat. The music choices and the sound design really helped make this go from a well done short to something truly heartfelt. Everything about the final fight between Megalon and Jet Jaguar was incredible. I'm not even ashamed to say I almost teared up near the end! Bravo!

This is the most badass and most heart warming fan films I’ve EVER seen! All of the fight scenes, all of the characters, If this was a actual movie I would have bawled my eyes out! The part whith Varan almost got me but the last scene with the reunion between Megalon and Gigan was what really made me shedded some tears! All Megalon wanted was his only Best Friend to be with him once more and I honestly don’t blame him even with all the trouble he caused! This fan film truly proves that monsters in a whole aren’t just tragic beings nor mindless, unstoppable monstrosity’s but simple creatures that all have feelings and emotions! You did everyone in this fan film complete justice and I’m very ver impressed!

For a project spanning worth 9 months, and lining up closely to JJ's/Megalon's 50th Anniversary, this was a fun experience. The driving force of the short film's mcguffin strung together with the aspirations of JJ's vengeance and Megalon's sorrow strung together a well thought plot with a meaningful message. That being said, this is great

This was amazing! I'll be honest: I was totally just expecting this to be a straightforward beat 'em up, just Jet Jaguar and Megalon fighting for no particular reason. But this had so much heart and soul to it in a way that's appropriate to JJ. Even better that you didn't resort to just making Megalon a mindless brute - he was also an actual character, and I felt genuinely sorry for him when he remained between Gigan and JJ as well as when he was begging for his friend to wake up. And even with all that, there were still great and creative action sequences! I liked how you had original choreography and setting rather than just recycling things we've already seen. I was not expecting such an epic and wholesome video, but I'm so glad with how this turned out!

Bravo!!! This honestly is the best 50th special of Godzilla vs Megalon I've ever seen this year! Honestly better than Godzilla vs Jet Jaguar, which I'm not saying is terrible. I just think that the writing that you put to the story is really emotional, episcially when Jet Spares Varan and instead of destroying Megalon, he helps bring his friend Gigan back to life. Showing that behind that heroic smile is a kind heart!

ok I'm going to be honest, the humans look a little strange but... we see Varan attack a town because his son was murdered and Jet Jaguar comes out to save the people is beautiful, a fight between Varan and Jet Jaguar is too good, Nothing Jet Jaguar saves him from a possible death is so so beautiful and Jet Jaguar also consoles Varan about his loss is so my god beautiful, that moment of loneliness of Jet Jaguar is Sad and Goro Ibuki's gift is beautiful, a Real father, the stone, a sublime detail, the "JJ convention" is God, when I saw that the car stopped, I knew the worst, something that I would not like to happen, God was dying, my heart was breaking and some tears came out, That pain of losing a father is the worst, we see Jet Jaguar see his other gift that is very emotional but Megalon tries to revive Gigan, the fight is good and using the spear reflector in his plasma beam is a sublime idea just like his tornado, then we see Megalon cry and Jet Jaguar sees the situation and still winning and already having the possibility of not being alone, he gave the stone to Megalon because it is the right thing to do, the reunion of Gigan and Megalon is beautiful god and the cherry That Jet Jaguar remembers when Goro Ibuki hugged him, Megalon apologizing is so emotional, that Gigan and Megalon leave playing like brothers is so XD and even more so when he falls and.. "We all have a little bit of Jet Jaguar in us. And no matter how many times he is beaten or silvered he will always get back up. And he will always find a reason to smile" TOO GOOD MY HEART MY TEARS, I don't need Jet Jaguar to talk to feel identified with him and feel his loss, I understand what it's like to feel without a partner or someone by your side, I understand that pain Jet Jaguar , I have to tell you this is much better than what Toho gave us by far

A fantastic fanfilm! Godzilla vs. Megalon is my favorite kaiju movie ever with Megalon even coming close to topping Godzilla as my favorite kaiju ever! You've given great love and care to both of them in this fanfilm, giving them character them in a way that doesn't make it too silly that'll take the viewer out of the experience, the action and story was great as well! This is not just a simple fanfilm of a fight and ending it instantly after the victory, I love all the small easter eggs snuck in for the big Godzilla nerds such as myself, you've given the time to give the characters a life, proper motivations for fighting, emotional moments and a wonderful moral to wrap it all up. While I do have some gripes here and there, the whole package is a great and satisfying fanfilm for the Godzilla franchise with a wonderful message of showing kindness to all!

I feel as though this is both a film that makes JJ more similar to Ultraman but also very different because he learns to live WITH the other kaiju. Surely going forward this fan film will influence JJ lore for that reason alone. Cheers Director-San, happy 50th to the best tag team kaiju movie.

Awesome job with this! Really liked how you fleshed out Jet Jaguar to make him feel more human and that honestly feels like a natural progression for him as a character. Wasn't expecting to feel emotional at a moment between Megalon and Gigan but at the same time I think it was an interesting twist that Megalon wasn't really acting out of malice, he just wanted his friend back. Seeing him begin to sob after being beaten and maimed and having lost all hope of completing that goal honestly made me feel for him. The use of stuff from the Atari Pipeworks games, sounds, animations, etc., was a nice addition as well. Seeing Megalon do his intro pose from those games during the final fight made me smile. Again, I think you did a wonderful job with this! :)

If JJ ever does get his robot friend, maybe you could base it on Medical Jet Jaguar from Godzilla Island. It would fit with the message to have to what is essentially a doctor/nurse for kaiju be what JJ brings to life rather than say another kaiju fighter.
