Jet Burner vs Cast Iron Burner

Test one was 10 psi regulator on the jet burner and 30 psi regulator on the cast iron burner. Test two has 30 psi regulators on both burners. BTUs are determined by the psi regulator feeding it, not the burner. The cast iron burner with the 30 psi regulator is the setup we use on our crawfish cookers! Correct me if I am wrong but I could use any low pressure burner using a 30psi regulator and adjusting the fuel air mixture and turn it into a high pressure burner?

That's actually a pretty useful demonstration. One of those small banjo burners can put out major heat with a 30 psi regulator. I think up to 150 thousand btu's? Alot of people don't realize they can handle that much pressure and put out that amount of heat.

Nice! Thanks, I would have guessed the jet burner to be more hot. Years of Boiling Crawfish, I usually had a jet burner. 30psi is the difference...?

Thanks for that. Same pot construction? Age? Metal? Company? I have a KK cast I use with a 50qt pot, but bought an 80qt pot for a crawfish boil. Thought I needed a jet burner to get up to temps quicker......guess not. =/

@@babcockglobalinc3625 honestly not always true depending on orface size and back pressure if it can let all 30lb of pressure through have a single tiger torch rated to 208k btu at 30 psi have a 60psi reg on it honestly don't get quite double out of it but then again the 100 lb tank is even a limiter at those btu outputs for any length of time like over 20 min at 400k btu the tank temp drops and with that so does vapor pressure

test 1 wasn't a fair test as JB was running at 10 PSI vs. 30 PSI for CB. 1/3 less power/fuel for JBtest 2 JB won by 15 sec at 27PSI vs. CB at 30 PSI. JB running at 10% less PSI and still won 15 sec. Unfortunately, we don't know how much fuel was used to truly know which is better or more fuel efficient. But I would think even at 27 PSI, JB used more fuel than CB at 30 PSI. Propane produces X amount of heat and Y amount of heat is needed to boil water. To boil faster, you'll need more propane than Y amount with all things being equal. I think JB uses propane faster therefore would burner hotter as evidently test 2 shown. But the weight of tanks would have definitely would have helped proved it. I still would use a JB for just high heat like for boiling and wok cooking but I wonder how much propane is used vs less heat and less propane for efficiency.Good test and comparison anyway.

kc kc Thanks for your comments. Test one was just to prove that a standard jet burner with a standard 10 psi regulator doesn't produce as much heat as the setup we use for our cookers. You are correct about it depends on how much propane you put into the burner. The more you put into it the more BTUs you get. That is the point of the video. Thanks for watching.
