This isn't really true though. Buddhism is presented by our own(not as a collective) moralism. It's saying we should strive for what we believe in. There's no right or wrong, good or bad. @@RLekhy ... no he wasn't. In Buddhism, we believe there are countless higher beings in all the possible levels of existence. That includes the existence of Gods/deities but we don't believe in Gods the same way Christians and other monotheistic beliefs do. For instance, we do not believe in God(s) as the creator or eternal living figure, we view them as life forms/ living beings like every other living being. Also in Buddhism, we believe in 6 realms of rebirth, one of them being "the realms of the gods (deva)", in which there are levels to this realm. So the idea that Buddha was an agnostic atheist isn't accurate at all, because he taught these Buddhist teachings, which acknowledge the existence of deities where we ourselves can be reborn as Gods if we are to accumulate good karma. We simply have a different POV of the nature of God(s) and what it entails. Idk where you got that idea from but I somewhat understand why you interpreted Buddha as an ag. atheist, although that isn't a true depiction. This is what I know as a Theravada Buddhist. I didn't want to come off as rude or bash atheism and I apologise if I came across that way, it wasn't my intention. I simply want to educate others and correct the misinformation and ignorance around Buddhism.

I talk about the series and the hesitation of the manga artist Hikaru Nakamura to let it be translated into English; this was shortly after there was a shooting at the office of the French humor magazine "Charlie Hebdo" when they ran cartoons making fun of Islam; Nakamura was afraid that trigger-happy American Christians might feel the same way. But now translations in English are available and some American Christians are indeed upset (there are a few KZread videos condemning the manga) but no shooting.

@@micanikko Sure. ^^ The point we were making was for the students to stop having such a simplistic way of viewing the affairs of Heaven and Earth. To stop being so cocksure and to have the humility to say that they dont know everything and that God, Heaven, and the Cosmos may be too large for our small minds to truly comprehend. And we must be OK with that, even as we still continue to try and understnd everything. That saying "My belief is right, everyone else is wrong" when you know nothing about others blinds you and weakens what faith you do profess. Our teacher, a Catholic priest, stated that at their cores most religions, to the best they can, try to teach their believers to be good. So its wrong to try to demonize someone or someone's faith outright and he welcomed open discussion of values and ideas from students. He asked Protestants, and though we didn't get one asked if there was a Muslim to go in front and basically speak of why their faith means so much to them. (We did, however, get a Mormon) Needless to say, it was great. It felt very affirming and harmonious even when minor debates popped up (which our teacher kindly oversaw). During a discussion about Buddhism, my weeb ass found an audience when I mentioned there was a manga (no anime at the time) where Jesus and Buddha took a vacation in Japan because Heaven's work got too stressful in the modern era. People laughed. Including our teacher who got a kick out of imagining Jesus and Buddha as bros of sorts just having a good time. I loved that class. Could never forget it.

Kind, yes, easygoing...I think requires some qualification. On several occasions both showed enormous courage and determined righteousness. There's that time Jesus took a whip and beat the hell out of a bunch of merchants and money lenders in a temple after calling them out on their wickedness. Buddha had to basically abandon his kingdom and family to begin his quest, and from there experienced extremes of poverty and ascetic training. I don't really disagree with you, but it takes a particular amount of brazen determination and unyielding focus to accomplish what they did which I think precludes the idea of them as depicted here. Yet their spirit or essence is definitely well presented.

It is not all black and white. Are you scared of death? if so you should be! Everyone is scared of death, yet we don't talk about it. There is a saying that only 2 things are absolute in life, and that is death and taxes. Tax isn't actually absolute since many people evade it, Yet death is so why does no one talk about it? it's because many people have no hope, they believe that once you die that is it. Yet that could not be farther from the truth. Now think about this for a moment. How are you able to know a building was built by a builder, even though the builder could've died 2k years ago. It's because the building is proof of the builder, and unless you despised the builder in any way shape or form you wouldn't believe that that builder built the building. Which is what our current state of being is, (because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. )-Romans 8:7; Now to test this out do you believe your a good person? if GOD exists will you be guilty or innocent, If you say innocent let me ask you this. How many Lies have you told? too many? Well have you ever stolen something doesn't matter the value of the item stolen, because you're as much of a thief as if you take $1 out of my wallet compared to taking $100. Downloading pirated things off the internet is also stealing. Now have you ever looked with lust? Jesus said whoever looks with lust has committed adultery with that person in his heart. Next have you used GOD's name in vain? if so would you use your parents name as a curse word to show disgust. Why is it that when we want to show disgust we use GOD's name and not buddha or anyone else's name. It's because, (If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first. )-John 15:18 ; and the reason we hate is because he has revealed that we are not good we are in danger all of us! most of us have taken the batteries out of our fire detector which is our conscience ! (If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’)- John: 22-25; Jesus came to reveal to us that we are guilty of sin WE ARE NOT GOOD. That is why the world hates him He revealed the hidden sins of this world he was the light that descended into darkness to shine his light upon the dark ! Now tell me from the 3 out of 10 laws in the moral law that is the 10 commandments that are written in our hearts that I just asked about, would you be innocent or guilty of breaking the law? If so you are just like the rest of us, but don't worry there is hope to eternal salvation ! The salvation is Jesus paying for our court fines. We are all but innocent in the Court room of GOD the thing about us is that we take sin lightly While in GOD's eye's they are very serious. There is a verse in the bible that says (For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.) - Romans 6:23; GOD is so serious about sin that he's giving us the death sentence so death is proof of just how serious GOD is, but it also says " the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" that is because on the day of judgement once we are in court if you've put your trust and faith in Jesus and accepted the gift of GOD which you can only do if you realize that you need it. it's like putting on a parachute when sky diving you trust that the parachute is going to save you and you have faith in it, but if you jumped off the plane believing in your own works of flapping your arms you would just fall and become a pancake on the ground. So you must have faith in the Lord and ask him to change your heart once your heart has been changed you will love good and hate evil, and only then are you truly able to do good works, because the bible says bad tree's cannot produce good fruit neither can good tree's produce bad fruit. Do not be mistaken though temptation still exists. So hold steadfast in your faith for the Lord is Arriving soon ! 😁

I truly do like the messages in this movie, and the one thing I took away from this anime was the concept of two founders of religion just coexisting together without forcing each others ways on each other even though they both are soo popular Of course they aren’t so different that they would argue but you do see religions that are closer still fighting like Islam and Christianity even though they both worship the same god. I feel like you could even interpret their coexistence and say that you can find your own path to happiness(within reason, don’t murder)As I believe the origins of these religions were to not only give people answers to their questions but to guide them to having better lives. If you take religion more seriously than that, then it’s fine, I feel like it means you have found a way of life that makes you happy. Sorry this is long, love saint young men, I hope more people can discover this heavenly treasure(especially this year

He thought that path was correct, but then realised that that path was only causing pain and no spiritual enlightenment, so he discovered the middle way, from which he became enlightened under the Bodhi Tree. Also, Buddha was not chanting a Mantra. He was chanting the Heart Sutra, which shows Emptiness in all things, including fear itself.

this was exceptionally well presented. I'm sure a lot of us out there didn't even know we needed this. I'm a Buddhist and was raised with lots of values that my father taught me, as I grew older, I ponder over a lot of things and don't exactly agree with a lot of my father's values and opinions. and this film, exactly presented that it's perfectly okay, that we can enjoy our everyday lives, indulge in materialistic pleasures, and still be a good person, just as Buddha and Jesus were portrayed in the film. you don't have to obsess over your beliefs, live by rules, and criticize others for not dedicating their lives to preach or practice their religions, just be a decent person, and that makes the world a better place. this needs to be truly appreciated, for their message and the story they tell.

I thought this movie would be just a great disrespect to Christianity (and Buddhism, I guess), but this, in some ways, get EXACTLY the point of Christianity. Spirituality is in the big things, but in the smalls, too. As Paul says in the Corinthians' letter, we christians do everything for the God's glory. That includes enjoy life and everything else. Plus, the detail of share the "spirit of religion" without preaching it is also part of Christianity. Christians must look like Christ, and He is a very good, gentle, wise, person. Now I really want to watch this movie.

It's same as people donating once a year to some climate change fund and spending the rest of it using plastic bags for everything or retweeting some leftist post and believing themselves to be fighting capitalism. It's a cheap way to silence one's conscience and doubts and go on with easy, exploitative lifestyle. We're merchants in the temple, selling drawings of God saying it's ok thing to do.

@@TheTb2364 I have given your comment some thought. What is the cause of capitalism's problems or for that matter the issues present in any social, economic or political program? Human vice in its many forms - of which Christian and Buddhist philosophy discuss ad infinitum. The calls for always rocking the boat, in essence what is suggested by the anti-capitalist, is no different than the pro-capitalist. We egoistically seek our interests, even the most altruistic of philosophers vie to have their names attached to their work out of pride and monetary gain. In all this we must care for people around us, but before that we have to take care of ourselves - if I am a mess how am I capable to care for anyone else? Within a certain line one must thus "go with the flow". Wisdom rests in understanding when one must be silently going along and when one must speak up. At the least this is as I see it. Thank you for the philosophical brain teaser.

Man as a Christian, this video still brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful message man and as a Christian I'd say - Jesus would indeed be impressed with the world's beauties because He created it all, He'd simply marvel at his Father's creation after all, so of course He’d enjoy the simple pleasures of cracking open a cold one and all that especially since He also knows how to make wine from water. Anyway, I love how optimistic this film's message is about faith not being lost and I wholeheartedly agree that faith is all around us, hope is all around us, and the beauties of everyday life is all around us. We mustn't forget that and lose sight of that, because once we do, we will lose the will to live. It's really just that - the love of this life and good earth that God has given us that is at the core of the Gospel - that's the Good Word really and this is why I'm a Christian, it's really quite a simple and universal message.

@@martinhorvath4117 Unfortunately, based on my knowledge in history, Greek philosophy has more influence on the writing of the Bible than Buddha. Even the person who claimed that Jesus traveled to India and got inspiration from Buddhism later admitted that he fabricated it, and there’s hardly any historical evidence to prove it. I don’t think science fiction can be taken as a fact, even though it might be a good movie. I’m not sure about the “retaining core principles” part as it heavily depends on how you interpret Buddhist theology, hence Buddhism in China, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, or even India can have very different theology and practices (in Japan monks can have a family dynasty while for some Chinese monks are required to be celibate). Politicization normally (and very often) happens when the majority of the people/citizens adopts the religion as main part of their society, hence you can get cases like Thailand, where there’s sign to remind citizens to give up seats for monks (yes, they do use Buddhism to justify homophobia as unnatural, amazing for a country that never got colonized by a western country), and Myanmar where no one baits an eye when a prominent monk preaches that Muslims are dogs. Basically I would say that it isn’t exactly fair to say that Christianity being political and brainwashed, when given the right circumstances it can easily be applied to other religions, otherwise Buddhist nationalism (yes, it’s a thing) and Hindu nationalisms (yes, it is also a thing) wouldn’t be a thing to begin with

So hold steadfast in your faith for the Lord is Arriving soon !😄

I like that liberties were taken with the character of Jesus because in some instance in the bible, he's not nice and the bible explicitly says that Christianity is the one true religion and everything else is false. I'm not as familiar with Buddhism, but I know there are some Buddhist that are atheist so clearly it's much different from Christianity.
