The reason "Jesus Take The Wheel" took off is that it showed off Carrie's power vocals. Country brass like the song, just didn't like Carrie singing it. A reality singer wasn't supposed to make a good song a blockbuster hit like Carrie did. The song didn't convert country radio stations into liking Carrie anymore. Main reason, radio stations played it when Carrie debuted, stations wanted Carrie's 20 million fan base, in order to get those fans they played Jesus Take The Wheel and kept playing it because they realized it was a blockbuster hit.
