My husband and I were saved in 74 during the Jesus movement. My biggest fear about accepting Christ was that I would be called a Jesus Freak. Could not imagine myself any other way now.

I was saved in 84 and had the same problem, a fear of being ostracized. Studying the first three hundred years of church history was mind boggling to me. I worried, (even after coming to Christ) about being ostracized while early Christians were persecuted, martyred, tortured and murdered in some of the most horrendous ways that evil man could dream up, and yet never renounced their faith. I can only pray that my faith could endure such a horrifying death. "I don't really mind if they label me a Jesus Freak, there ain't no denying the truth."

I caught the end of the Jesus movement. 1979 back east. I saw many people tearing up at the theatre. It was a great movement. The church I went to was full of older hippies. I was just out of high school and have been with Christ since then.

The Jesus movement hit every denomination, I went to mass in jeans and guitar mass was held outside, barefoot! The culture reflected it, pop music reflected it. Jesus Christ Superstar came with it. Calvary Chapel began. Jesus freaks was a thing. It blended in with hippie culture, flower power. Peace and love. In 69 one of my favorite songs was "Oh well" by Fleetwood Mac. Reference of God leading me. Good song still, way ahead of it's time. 1969 is a very long time ago heh.

I’m sure hoping the movement stops the insanity of trans , binary, fluidity, and the brainwashing of our college students. I lived in small town USA but hippie culture permeated it also. I never participated or agreed with the friends that joined into the hippie culture even though some of my close friends adopted it and it certainly had its affects. My beloved (at that time) music group The Beatles changed their music completely. Free love which was really an excuse to have sex with anyone (and your girlfriend or boyfriend ) was supposed to be embraced as it was also was “cool.” The 60s R & B and Beach Boys gave way to “psychedelic.” I’m sure my parent’s generation were in despair as many of us are now. What is frightening to me during this era is that politicians and media are not only not criticizing but defending the moral deprivation. I am praying God saves us from destroying America.

I was interested in watching this movie when I first heard about it, but I'm so skeptical of movies and shows that claim to be Christian, because there are so many people out there with bad or no theology, and I hear about ungodly things done in preparation for the creation of these movies and shows (specifically referring to Jonathan Roumie practicing necromancy and/or praying to the dead) and that stuff really turns me off of these movies and shows. On top of, and above, all of that, I have concerns about these movies and shows regarding the 2nd commandment. I'm not quite sure where I fall on that just yet, but feel better erring on the side of following God's commandments. The fact is, I'm not going to spend a bunch of time worrying about whether or not I, as a Christian, should or shouldn't watch these kinds of things. My heart and mind have been changed by the Holy Spirit and my concern is getting to know Christ more deeply and spreading His word, and to do both of those things I need to spend my time in His Word, which is what I do, instead of focusing on these movies and shows. With all of that said, I have no doubt that if God chooses to use these movies and shows to work in the heart of people for His glory, then he absolutely can and will do that. Again, I'm keeping my focus on knowing Christ better, my sanctification, disciplining my children, serving His church, and just doing whatever I can to try to manifest God's glory. May He bless and keep you all.

I always applaud the courage of individuals who find that Christ speaks to their humanity. However, I have found serious impacts on the Christian ethos that came from the 60's ethos. There is serious questions about the adverse impact on the church from the influence of the world view that came from the 60's generation - of which I am one.

The people of Jesus's time didn't fully understand his teachings. He was planting a seed that was to continue to germinate and grow during the last 2000yrs. That's why he tried to explain it in these simple stories or parables. Still at this time when we're in the process of completing the piscean Era and slowly moving towards the Aquarian age most of the world still don't understand his teachings. He was teaching among other things about the soul, it's survival after physical death and the continuation of our evolutionary process by re-incarnating in a different body. When he said you have to be born again of the clay water and spirit he was saying you have to re-incarnate in a physical body which is what we all use as our earthly vehicle and we have the soul which is depicted in the Bible as God's blowing or breathing that life into that body. The human body is mostly a mixture of water and dirt making clay with a soul that is the motor moving it. When he said pick up your cross and follow me he meant you have to take a body, which is the souls cross and reincarnate over and over again, and you die on that cross, we all die on our cross, and no one gets to the father unless you follow him, what he's done.

So as we're in the midst of revelations or judgement times the hippie generation arrived. Remember the Bible says all souls would be raised from the dead to come for judgement or see judgement. The hippies looked like maybe the followers or generation of Jesus's time. They wanted to dress like they did then and live in communist etc. They were the boomer generation, the largest group of souls born on the planet in a group at one time. We ushered in the process of gradually going from the piscean to the Aquarian age! Aquarius! Let the sunshine 🌞 in!

Guess what religion the King of the Jews taught.. John 19:21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am" the King of the Jews.” ’ ” John 4:21-24 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.

I appreciate Andrew bringing up Lonnie Frisbee's sexuality. While I know Wikipedia is not appropriate as a comprehensive source, I do believe that it can be a good starting point, and I'm not sure the indications there jive with Mr. Laurie's defense of Mr. Frisbee and his depiction in the film. Also, it doesn't seem that Chuck Smith was quite as orthodox in reality as he appeared in the film. Anyway, I know that filmmakers tweak things to make films more compelling. In any case, though, I came away from the film confused. Did anything really happen? It just seemed like the preacher and his congregation became more 'hip' while the hippies were content to listen to christianized rock n roll music. Were their lives changed? Howso? Did they stop being hippies? Is this made clear in the film? Can someone help me to understand?

Jesus said, " They hate Me and they will hate you" I would be suspicious of anything Christian being praised since Christians are the most hated group in the world with 70 million martyrs. I hope Lonnie was really saved. We all struggle with sin and it is a battle. Anyway, something to be mindful of. I can't disagree with many of the things the pastor said but I would be interested in knowing what he teaches and practices more. After all, people can say anything they want and actors just pretend they're something they are not.
