At what point did you miss that Christ is to be called "son of man" nothing else, YAHW is to be called lord of the spirits! "SON OF MAN" read 1 Enoch! Christ is not god, nor in the flesh, he is the son, god is the lord! 1 Enoch helps, rather than believing the roman indoctrination!

Here something to study about: "Lilith", "The contradictions in the Bible", "The epic of Gilgamesh", "What happened to the dinosaurs during the ark of Noah?" What happened to sloths a mammal that only lives in South America did it make it to the Ark as well? What about Kiwi, Kangoroo?" Why did "God" choose to come only during a time people didn't know the earth is spherical and the sun turn around it? We have smartphones and cameras now plus the internet we are still waiting for someone to appear in the sky. How can the entire Earth be flooded in a water that is 7 meters deep yet the highest peak on Earth Mount Everest is 8000 metres.. if your Bible was really words of God it would stand the test of time and will still be relevant today. I'm waiting for your findings sincerely.

If you need to “strengthen” your faith, then you are basically admitting that faith is all you have to base your belief on. Faith is defined as belief without evidence. There is nothing at all virtuous about faith. It is allowing yourself to be deliberately blinded just because it satisfies an infantile need to feel special. There is no invisible immortal father with super powers and nothing happens after you die, stop being such a child.

No where did he demonstrate anything in the Dead Seas Scrolls the either directly or indirectly mentioned Jesus. That's the verbal trick he played on his willing audience.

It’s so eye-opening, that he says that in Old Testament times, the people of Israel had both an anointed *king*; *and* also a separate anointed *rabbi(priest)*. In Jesus, He Is *Both* at the same time for us! He Is our Holy King and our Holy Priest In One Person! I never saw it this way before, in my whole life! Because I never realized The Jewish People always had an anointed king. I knew about King David, but didn’t know that having a king was a long-standing tradition for them! I feel so dumb, yet so enlightened at the same time!

Wow how come we don't here these type of messages in church. Most pastors are only looking for tithes and biblical mental midgets. Thank you so much Dr. Evans. Jesus was anticipated by the faithful Jews. Fascinating.

Check out the books of the great scholar , Geza Vermes expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls who spoke Aramaic , Hebrew and Latin and probably ancient Greek.

I don't know if you are familiar with Rachel Elior's views on the authors of the DSS. She is an expert on ancient texts and says that the crolls were part of the first and second temple library that were taken to Qumran during the Macabbean revolt when the legitimate priests of the line of Zadok were ousted from the temple and had to flee. The scrolls revolve around temple worship and priestly services. The Essenes had nothing to do with these scrolls. They lived further soutn in the En gedi area. It is also believed that John the Baptist, who came from a priestly line, also lived in this area and might have written some of the scrolls.

This is great stuff. Thank you for sharing! The only part I disagree was around 25:00 mark he mention Jesus bounded Satan and put an end to his kingdom. I don't this was done yet. Only in Revelation, which is future, will that take place.

Where I grew up there were only 7 houses on the street I lived on and fortunately, the families kids were all pretty much around the same age, so even though we were "out in the country I had a bunch of kids to hang out with. We used to hang out in the woods by a creek about 1 mile away from my house. We used to go down there and pretend all kinds of nonsense. We set up a fort near the creek where we would play and shoot BB guns and just do kid things. There were desks we built in the fort to eat at or color or do whatever kids came up with in the 70's. We used to write stories on paper and store theme in glass jars. At one point in time, we decided to bury the jars to protect our ' written" thoughts. I wonder if someone uncovers our writings 2,000 years from now, will they take our fantastical stories and make a religion out of them. Same as the dead sea scrolls????? See the similarities???????

I’d say that anyone who declares with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in their heart that God raised him from the dead will be saved, and is a part of the ecclesia. Generally, Protestants often say that anyone who affirms the Apostle’s Creed could be considered a more-or-less orthodox Christian

From what I’ve read it likely was not Essenes at Qumran. I know this is popular to say, but what is the evidence for such a definitive statement?

Theory.

Missed opportunity to discuss what the DSS actually shows. DSS contain many variant readings of which the Jews of this time would have considered sacred scripture. Textual plurality was not the exception, it was the rule. DSS also confirmed the Septuagint’s translation was indeed based on a variant of the Hebrew scripture.

There never was a "Josephus" or a pliny the younger... or a Eusebius.... They are European fakes. Richard Carrier correctly analysed the New Testament and concluded that it was written by highly inteligent and imaginative people. Yes. Desiderious Erasmus in 1516 wrote the synoptic gospels. commissioned by pope Alex VI. Why? Because the Roman Catholic church had NO LITERATURE of their ICON hey zeus the Kristos which went on to become known as Jesus the Christ... It was called the Novuum Instramentum. the dead sea scrolls show that contrary to what Christians say.. Jesus wasn't a messiah that didn't meet expectations but was actually fulfilling the expectations of a sect within Judaism.

Rod K I think you missed the point of the talk. Jewish meant different things in the 1st century CE. Philo of Alexandrea was Jewish, Qumran community and Essenes were Jewish, Pharisees and Sadducees were Jewish, each with different beliefs Christian apologists need Jesus community to come from the orthodox sect, since these rejected Greek influences. For the Greeks, resurrections were a dime a dozen

A lot of error in the first minute and 20 seconds. As well, there is no evidence whatsoever that James wrote the book of Hebrews. If this guy read extra biblical writings such as the Protevangelion and the Coptic Apocalypse of Peter he would know that John the Baptist in all likely hood wrote a portion of the Thanksgiving Scrolls. Even studying just the DSS and the bible he should know that Christ actually heavily referenced the Essenes and the scrolls, even at one point quoting them. Just because we don't find their names in the scrolls doesn't mean they aren't referenced. And it doesn't mean they didn't reference the DSS. The Protevangelion, for example, tells us that John's father (Zacharias) was killed by Herod's soldiers when he refused to turn John over to them to be killed when they were killing all male children 2 years of age and under. This is the Zacharias that Yahushua was referencing when he said this generation would be held responsible for killing all the prophets from Able all the way down to Zacharias. The Protevangelion then tells us that Elizabeth fled into the hills with the infant/toddler John. This is how John ended up to be with the Essenes. This is why portions of the Thanksgiving Hymns say the father of the author did not know him and his mother abandoned him. For since Elizabeth had no way of looking after John when soldiers were looking for him she left him with the Essenes, who were eager to take in a child from the line of Arron. In the Coptic Apocalypse of Peter, he begins by dating the vision he sees as happening in the 300th year of the new covenant. Well, this fits perfectly with the oldest dates of the scrolls and lines up for the timing of the Essenes first coming on the world scene. And it lines up with the Damascus Document's mention of a new covenant made in Damascus. so Peter was obvious referencing the Damascus Document and the "new covenant" mentioned in it.

I think the best way to study the DDS is by the lens of Rabbinic tradition, most accurately to study the Hebrew language to filter out the mistranslations.

I think Yeshua was an Essene from Nazareth because the Essenes lived in Nazareth. Essenes were a small sect of mainline Judism as were the Smaratians. Many stories in the OT come from ancient Sumerian stories and some from Egypt.

This for me PROVES beyond a doubt that Jesus in one way or another was heavily influenced by the Essenes or was just an Essene himself! Personally I am inclined to think the latter. He is de Master (as far as I have understood it an Essene rank or title) who sends his disciples into Jerusalem to find the man who carries the water jug (which is a means to identify that man as an Essene) and say to him to prepare a room for the Master. So, the whole discussion about the divinity of Jesus starts before Jesus even began! Before he was born even! The trouble is that either Jesus himself or his followers distance themselves from the Essenes, they branch out into the world. First the Jewish world and sometime later the whole world. Like a bird who leaves its nest. The idea that Jesus had more likeness to the Pharisees is understandable. Jesus walks between, among the people, in itself not an Essenic thing and they share orthodox Jewish beliefs. I think that Jesus was an Essenic Messianic Missionary, so he had to leave the essenic nest.

To understand today's religions, we need to go back to the earliest belief systems, where it all started. Khemet. Zoroastrianism, Mesopotamian, Islam, Judaism, Greek and Roman myths are people's perception about a deity and the laws their deities gave them to govern the masses. Every concept in Christianity can be traced back to preexisting or conquering religions.. Judgement, trinity, 3 days in Hades, Holy Communion, death and resurrection, afterlife, good and evil, 12 disciples - 12 zodiac signs.

Didn't Jesus tell his disciples according to your Bible that they wouldn't see death until his kingdom returns?? And don't tell me the transfiguration was the coming of his kingdom.. At 5:23 he continued saying that "The scrolls also shed lots of light on many teachings of Jesus...". Indeed, and how profound, since it is He who delivered the messages to His prophets in the first place. Where did Dr Evans come across this theology? The entire book of Isiah was among the first seven Dead Sea Scrolls found 1947, in cave #1. Dr Evans, please read Isiah 53 and tell us that it doesn't refer to Jesus. In another of his videos he evidently has had an epiphany that certain verses in the canonical Bible need to be removed: (copy and paste above) "Dr Craig Evans discusses what verses should be deleted from the New Testament".

Ah... Isaiah refers to the Suffering Survant. This Suffering Servant is called Israel, Jacob explicitly in Isaiah Isaiah 41:9 "But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, Also, Isaiah says, at the time of his writing, that the Servant WAS (in the past tense) afflicted Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. Is this about a FUTURE prophesy? and if so, how can you tell? I feel Christians just take whatever passages they think help their theology and run with it. I'm an ex-Christian Atheist, makes no difference to me, but wanted to point out my observation.

Anon Give it another listen, you may have missed the point. Yes, the OT is filled with references to Jesus the Christ, but I think the comment was meant to refute hype about Jesus perhaps living among the Essenes during this time. The scrolls don’t make any references along these lines, I.e. “Jesus was here yesterday and spent time reading and teaching, etc.”

Well done for an interesting lecture, well presented and convincing. But unfortunately it doesn't advance the chances of the New Testament being true one bit. It just shows that the writers of the New Testament were relying on stories that were already in circulation at the time. So what it does advance is the likelihood that the Jesus character is a mash-up of well known stories of the time, and was probably not based on a real individual.

Josephus called this "sect" Essenes (=pious ones); however, he was a self-described Pharisee who falsely claimed to live among them in his early years. See what Christ thinks of Pharisees in Matthew 23. No, this is the sect that Paul called THE WAY (Heb. HaDerech), and these are the 144,000 of Revelation who lived in Qumran for a little over two centuries. Compare the men and women of THE WAY in Damascus -- where there is "a street called Straight" to this day -- with what is recorded in the Damascus Document.

According to the Gospel of Thomas, everyone can be a son of Yahweh, even a woman. And Chapter 6 of Genesis have the term "sons of Eloheim", in plural. The question is, is "son of Yahweh or Eloheim" a deity or just another human like you and me? The Gospel of Thomas refers Yahweh's kingdom as "our father's kingdom". Yahshua is NOT Yahweh. He never claimed to be Yahweh. When Moses met Yahweh, Yahweh acknowledged that he had always been the eloheim that Moses' ancestors had worshiped.

@blitz2b ​ Many scholars believe that the Gospel of Thomas is source Q. Many Gospels might actually be based on the Gospel of Thomas. It had also been mentioned in some very early discussions in the correspondence between priests. So, the Gospel of Thomas is as old, if not older than, other so-called canonical Gospels. BTW, Gnostic means believing by experiencing. There are obvious political reasons for the canonical Gospels to be included in New Testament. It is not just the Gospel of Thomas. The people who wrote the Dead Sea scrolls called themselves "the sons of light". YHWH told Moses that he was "light" and that's why Moses couldn't see him. Recent archaeology found males as well as females in this group of people. In Gospel of Thomas, Yahshua said females deserved the same treatment and were basically not different from males because females could be turned into males. The disciples often said "our Father's kingdom". Obviously, "sons of light" means "son's of YHWH". And both females and males can become "sons of YHWH" as long as they believe. Believe in what? In the son's name, i.e., Yahshua, meaning YAH saves. YAH is Yahweh, the one and only one deity that Moses talked to. None of the Gospels say people should believe in Yahshua as a deity. Instead, people should believe in his NAME! NONE of the Gospels ever says that Yahshua is a deity. Yahweh told Moses explicitly that he was the deity, eloheim, that had always been worshiped by Moses' ancestors. Why didn't Yahshua tell everyone that he was the eloheim who was worshiped by Moses' ancestors?? Yahshua is NOT a deity. The divinity of Yahshua was invented by the Romans who always accepted the belief that a deity can give rise to offsprings and the offsprings are also deities. How can you even explain the beginning of Genesis chapter 6 logically which says "the sonS of eloheim....."? Tell me! Don't say something like "oh human logic is very limited". In that case, no one should read the Bible or any so-called Gnostic Gospels because nothing is really truly comprehensible by humans. This is up to you. But the Gospel of Thomas says clearly at the very beginning that if you read it over and over again, eventually you should be able to master its content! BTW, the concept of trinity is PAGAN! @Najma Khan So what is the original Greek word for "only begotten"? What is the real meaning of this Greek word? μονογενής (monogenés) means one of a kind or one of a group. mono means one. Genes is from genos which means a group or a kin. BTW, the Gospel of Philip hinted that Yahshua was a rape baby. Mary was raped by the Roman soldiers. This solves the mystery of how a virgin could give birth to a baby. Does this make Yahshua a bad person? NO. It only makes him a better person, a better human.

The Dead Sea Scrolls do refer to Jesus(jeshua) - in the scrolls his nickname is - the man of a lie , The Dead Sea Scrolls do mention john the Baptist - his nickname is - the wicked Priest

Its says so in the copper scroll, which was also written by the Essens , and also found in the caves at Qumran the man of a lie - meaning he was born out of wedlock, the manger being a half way home for pregnant woman, Joseph and Mary had sex outside of the rules of the strict Essene cult - this does not mean he was a liar its just a nickname they had for him back then - the Essene's called each other - sons of God and the Woman were called Virgins- Source - Barbara Theiring the theologian biblical scholar spent ten years or more studying the Copper scroll, the dead sea scrolls and the Bible and found these facts ..read her Book -Jesus the Man.

The branch is David who will be raised up to shepherd the remnant of Israel back to the promised land during the first half of tribulation.

I'm a layman, but can see where he's coming from. This rips away the fallacies of the so-called academics who denounce the real and actual importance of the arrival of Jesus Christ on the earth, by concocting the event as politically expedient myth by some Jews which grew out of an attempt to parallel the caesars of Rome.
