In love how in those days being able to sing around a piano or play some skit was just normal!

'Sir Percy Newbiggin', Jessie's pop, is clearly spoofing Winston Churchill. Despite being a 'former Naval person' as First Lord of the Admiralty in WW1, in the 1920s Churchill preached 'rigid economy' in spending on ships, following a rule that Britain should not expect a major war at sea for at least a decade. The authors of 'The Midshipmaid' did not agree. Both former senior officers in WW1 before becoming writers, they make Sir Percy a hypocritical windbag. He likes a large brandy and a fat cigar, but he wants to keep the Royal Navy on seabiscuit and water.
