Crooklyn was a Spike Lee movie (Clockers too) set in this time period. The Q-Tip version of the song is different but equally as great. The 90's was the best period in hip-hop.
@KtotheG

I like both versions... it's hard to pick. Clockers is low key a '90s classic. Some people didn't like it because it didn't have a whole lot of graphic violence like Menace II Society or Boyz N the Hood, but it was deep and emotionally surreal. Delroy Lindo and Isaiah Washington acted their asses off.

HOLD UP!!!! There is a Q-Tip version as well!!? I only discovered this song recently and the beat just slaps so hard. I listened to the whole soundtrack album this song was on. I also love the references to other songs like Black moon - Who got da props "straight from Crooklyn, better known as Brooklyn" and "survival of the fittest" line like Mobb Deep and then wu-tang "Jah" rules everything around me CREAM get the money, Dollah Dollah Bill y'all :D BTW: I can't find that Q-tip version of the song. If anyone would be so kind to link what song you mean @greghamilton

@@MrSnappyJonesCome on bruh. Treat Em Right came out a whole five years before this song and was better than most songs in 1990. Chubb was always dope for the era he was in but he never wanted to compromise his art which basically everyone was doing in the mid 90s.

"So violent crimes black on black... plus mad crack to boot... everybody can't rap so most hustle and shoot......" -Jeru... Powerful line.
You gotta review the ENTIRE The Sun Rises in The East album by Jeru….I’m telling you!!!!!!!!!
Used to see Chubb Rock damn near everyday. He used to live in my building.
Even O.C is one of the best rappers Try to review his second album Jewelz Released: August 19, 1997

My favorite period of all time for hip Hop. Before Suge and Diddy ruined everything.
D&D All Stars KRS One, Jeru, Fat Joe, Smif N Wessun, Mad Lion produced by DJ Premier. This song 👆 was also produced by DJ Premier
Chubb Rock is slept on.
Songs like this are so nostalgic for me. I was just out of high school, first job, first apartment of my own, first long term girlfriend, dad (amazingly) bought me a pair of Technics SL 1210s, I started DJing in local bars, got on the radio once, taught myself how to scratch and beat juggle. I can even remember certain smells from that time when I listen to music like this (CK One cologne). Great memories.
Classic. The beat just personifies 90s NY hip hop perfectly
Jeru's 1st album is "The Sun Rises In The East". CLASSIC album. You gotta hear that one. His 2nd album is also dope. It's called "Wrath Of The Math"
This is from the movie Clockers.
Crooklyn Dodgers had various lineups thru the years- all those members you mentioned were not in group at same time… Chubb Rock underrated! Check his banger “Treat Em Right”. Jeru one of the greatest. His debut The Sun Rises In The East, produced by Premier, is the album you want. 2nd album Wrath Of The Math (also Premier) not far behind.
Chubb Rock was a pre-med student at Brown, an Ivy league university. He quit school to pursue rap.
Chubb Rock and O.C are incredible also..O.C has helped me through some tough times

O.C is so underrated, his album with Apathy was fire as fuck
Yeah there were 3 groups. The First was Special Ed, Buckshot and Masta ace, This one, and Most Def, Memphis Bleek, and Jean Grae off of 9th Wonders album.
Chubb Rock's verse: "Whitey can sell on the corner of Bushwick, Whitey can sell on the corners of Flatbush, Whiteys can sell on the corners of Bed-Stuy........(He's doesn't mean white T-shirts..)

Yeah, my boy did misinterpret that. It's all good though 😂
summer of 95 was on another level!!! you right though, you can feel the heat from the concrete just listening to this record
"Wrath Of The Math" is the album from Jeru you should review. Jeru was one of my biggest emcee inspirations.
O.C. Is part of the D.I.T.C. Crew…..definitely something you should look into……(and talent and production skills).
They all went in but Jeru killed it!
One of the best tracks of the 90s. You have to do the first Crooklyn Dodgers with Masta Ace, Buckshot and Special Ed produced by Q-Tip. Masta Ace is on the chorus of Return of Crooklyn Dodgers as the bridge between the two versions of the crew. Both versions of the Dodgers crew did their tracks for different Spike Lee movies, Crooklyn and Clockers.

I mean, this whole joint JUMPS off like a rocket ship and you just hold on, bobbin head HARD the wholllllle time!
I haven’t thought about Clockers in 20 year, what a trip
O.C. is another slept on emcee.
It’s most definitely a Blessing to see you (a relatively young man) diggin in the crates and respectin something as dope as this! I felt your energy waaaaay down here in Mississippi! Lol. Just imagine how powerful this was when it originally dropped!! 🤦🏾♂️ …bruh, keep bangin that real out cha speakers! 🤙🏾
Chubb Rock underrated like a mf...
yeah, this to the soundtrack of Spike Lee's movie called Clockers. the chorus scratched by DJ Premier is samples from Special Ed, Black Moon, Masta' Ace...
OC and Jeru are two of MANY rappers of that era that are 5 Percenters.
Still like the first Crooklyn Dodgers more.

Great seeing comments for Chubb Rock….can’t forget “Yabadabadoo”……..and the hard back and forth intro “Caught Up Remix” and “DJ Innovator” instrumental with the Gwen McRae “Rockin’ Chair” sample (ie. Also used by Blahzay & PF Cuttin “Danger” Original version
The video had clips from the Spike Lee movie Clockers. I recommend checking that movie out. It's a great one. Put Mekhi Phifer on the map. Also had Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz from Onyx in it.
Yea, you're gonna spazz when you hear The Sun Rises in the East. Wrath of the Math is an underrated follow-up.
I enjoy watching your reactions. You have a true old school hip-hop spirit.

Bought this joint when it came out on 12 inch vinyl, still in my collect
This takes Me back to playin' Ceilo and then bouncin' up to Jamaica Avenue and Linden Boulevard before hitting John J. Burns. NY was Paradise in the early 90s, I really do miss it.
Underrated And Never Duplicated
FUN FACT: Chubb Rock was a pre-med student but dropped out of an Ivy League college to be an MC.
Got a suggestion, it's a mix though. Marvin Gaye and Mos Def - The Departure. It's an amazing listening experience for any hip hop head.
Still got an unopened 12” copy of this which I bought from Beat St Records up in Brooklyn many years ago. Jeru killed this, I felt sorry for Chubb & O.C., even though they done their thing! Jeru is one of the very few Hip Hop artists that dropped two stone cold classics one after the other- The Sun Rises In The East and Wrath Of The Math. Both classic from START to FINISH. Mobb Deep, Gang Starr, Masta Ace, Ghostface being the others, off the top of my head…

This is my favorite hiphop song of all time! Everything was just so perfect! The beat, the rhymes, the atmosphere and the video
Also, I think this is the song or one of the songs that sparked the Jeru vs Biggie beef, which Biggie addressed on Kick In The Door. On Kick In the Door, Big dissed Nas, Jeru, Ghostface, Raekwon, Primo (the guy who produced the song, lol) and Boot Camp Clique. That's why at the beginning, he kept saying, "This goes out to you...and you and you..."
