Crooklyn was a Spike Lee movie (Clockers too) set in this time period. The Q-Tip version of the song is different but equally as great. The 90's was the best period in hip-hop.

I like both versions... it's hard to pick. Clockers is low key a '90s classic. Some people didn't like it because it didn't have a whole lot of graphic violence like Menace II Society or Boyz N the Hood, but it was deep and emotionally surreal. Delroy Lindo and Isaiah Washington acted their asses off.

yeah the plot of crooklyn takes place in 1973, and clockers was set in modern day which at the time was 1995.

HOLD UP!!!! There is a Q-Tip version as well!!? I only discovered this song recently and the beat just slaps so hard. I listened to the whole soundtrack album this song was on. I also love the references to other songs like Black moon - Who got da props "straight from Crooklyn, better known as Brooklyn" and "survival of the fittest" line like Mobb Deep and then wu-tang "Jah" rules everything around me CREAM get the money, Dollah Dollah Bill y'all :D BTW: I can't find that Q-tip version of the song. ​@@MrSnappyJonesCome on bruh. Treat Em Right came out a whole five years before this song and was better than most songs in 1990. Chubb was always dope for the era he was in but he never wanted to compromise his art which basically everyone was doing in the mid 90s.

I was 16 and now I'm turning 45 next month. This was my favorite song when it came out because I was a big fan of every emcee on it individually and I used to see Chubb Rock when he would dip through DC sometimes.

Songs like this are so nostalgic for me. I was just out of high school, first job, first apartment of my own, first long term girlfriend, dad (amazingly) bought me a pair of Technics SL 1210s, I started DJing in local bars, got on the radio once, taught myself how to scratch and beat juggle. I can even remember certain smells from that time when I listen to music like this (CK One cologne). Great memories.

Chubb Rock was a pre-med student at Brown, an Ivy league university. He quit school to pursue rap.

"Wrath Of The Math" is the album from Jeru you should review. Jeru was one of my biggest emcee inspirations.

O.C. Is part of the D.I.T.C. Crew…..definitely something you should look into……(and talent and production skills).

One of the best tracks of the 90s. You have to do the first Crooklyn Dodgers with Masta Ace, Buckshot and Special Ed produced by Q-Tip. Masta Ace is on the chorus of Return of Crooklyn Dodgers as the bridge between the two versions of the crew. Both versions of the Dodgers crew did their tracks for different Spike Lee movies, Crooklyn and Clockers.

This takes Me back to playin' Ceilo and then bouncin' up to Jamaica Avenue and Linden Boulevard before hitting John J. Burns. NY was Paradise in the early 90s, I really do miss it.

Got a suggestion, it's a mix though. Marvin Gaye and Mos Def - The Departure. It's an amazing listening experience for any hip hop head.

Still got an unopened 12” copy of this which I bought from Beat St Records up in Brooklyn many years ago. Jeru killed this, I felt sorry for Chubb & O.C., even though they done their thing! Jeru is one of the very few Hip Hop artists that dropped two stone cold classics one after the other- The Sun Rises In The East and Wrath Of The Math. Both classic from START to FINISH.
