Before the calves could enter the pasture, a bridge was first made from the stable to the pasture. And then the route to the pasture was set off with fences. The pasture was also deposited with electric fence wire. The calves find it wonderful to go outside. Only they are not accustomed to water, so that's why fence wire is put around it. But they are not accustomed to electric fences.
The calves left the stable a little uncomfortably, walked over the bridge, and with wild cubs the calves dived into the meadow. Soon a group of calves went through the fence wire and a few even disappeared into the ditch around the pasture. The calves that did not manage to get out of the ditch themselves were helped, and when the calves had become somewhat calmer, the electric fence wire was quickly put back in place. The curious calves soon learned what electric fence wire is. Then to enjoy the walk in the meadow.

Voordat de kalveren het weiland in konden werd er eerst een brug gemaakt van de stal naar het weiland. En daarna werd met hekken de route naar het weiland afgezet. Ook werd het weiland afgezet met schrikdraad. De kalveren vinden het prachtig om naar buiten te gaan. Alleen ze zijn geen water gewend, dus daarom wordt er schrikdraad eromheen gezet. Maar ze zijn ook niet aan schrikdraad gewend.
Een beetje onwennig verlieten de kalfjes de stal, liepen over de brug, en met wilde bokkensprongen doken de kalfjes het weiland in. Al snel dook daar een groep kalfjes door het schrikdraad heen en verdween een enkeling zelfs in de sloot rondom het weiland. De kalveren die niet zelf uit de sloot wisten te komen werden geholpen, en toen de kalfjes iets rustiger waren geworden werd snel het schrikdraad weer op zijn plaats gezet. De nieuwsgierige kalfjes leerden daarna al snel wat schrikdraad is. Om vervolgens heerlijk te gaan genieten van het lopen in de wei.

Why not train them to hot wire their last week still in the pens? Seems like that, alongside giving them a much larger "first day on grass" paddock, would have saved quite a bit of trouble...

Again, please forgive my inability to speak/write in German. Just wish to ask if Jersey cattle are attracted to water? As quite a few calves in this video seemed to head straight for it! Thanks for posting, and a possible English response!👍😃😊

MessyJC Jersey calves are not attracted by water. They do not like swimming at all. Because these chafts just come from a stable and are in the meadow for the first time, do not know that there are ditches around the meadow. That is why they fall into the ditch and then never again

Those calves are 7 years old by now!
twee weken lang een draad boven het voerhek en ze weten wat stroomdraad is..scheelt een hoop gedoe..:)

Martin Spijker Ja dat had men dit jaar gedaan en toen ging er geen enkel kalf meer in de sloot. Dat heb ik ook opgenomen maar dat is niet spectaculair!!
