Jerry Reed -- Amos Moses [REACTION]

Музыка

What a trip down Memory Lane this was, between Jerry's great persona and Smokey And The Bandit, this dude did it all!! And this song is hilarious, what with a dad using his own son for alligator bait and all.

@@markcainyourfriendinthecar3387 it's a small world. Back when I was in our local college I was invited to a party out on the lake here by Bo Hopkins who was a family friend. The party was at a lake house mutually owned by Jerry and Burt Reynolds. After things wound down in the wee hours of the morning several of us sat around in the great room and listened to Jerry Reed pick the guitar. The man was a master with that instrument.

Jerry Reed was accomplished musician. Check out some Jerry Reed & Chet Atkins videos. Side note: Elvis wanted to record Reed's song, Guitar Man, but neither Elvis or his musicians could get the guitar part right, so Elvis called Jerry to come to his studio & play guitar. Reed played on at least 2 tracks for Elvis; "Guitar Man" & "U.S. Male", which is another great song of Jerry's.

@@RockN2Country When Elvis called Jerry to do Guitar Man he asked Jerry what was he doing on the guitar. Jerry responded with :ahh son i was just doin a little finger dancin". Then after they recorded Guitar Man and US male Jerry Reed was walking out of the recording studio and they wanted Jerry to sign over half the songwriter right to both of the of songs. Back in the day the Col. Tom Parker had every song writer sign over the half the songwriter rights to every song Elvis recorded. Jerry told then no im not doing that. The secertary then told Jerry fine the songs won't get release and you won't make any money. Jerry Reed said thats fine Guitar Man has already been a number 1 on the country charts I dont care. But your the ones that are going to explain to that happy man in there how come he not have 2 top ten hits and a number 1 atleast not me. Then he walked out. and Guitar man was a number 1 hit also for Elvis and US Male did make into the top 10 for Elvis also.

I got to meet Jerry Reed in Nashville back in the late 80s. We had a mutual friend, and we were just sitting down for lunch when Jerry walked in. He ended up having lunch with us, and he was a genuinely nice guy and very humble. For some reason, I asked him about the dog in Smokey and the Bandit, and he said the dog kept falling off of the seat in the truck scenes and he had horrible gas. Don't know why I remember that, but I do. He was one hell of a talented guitar player, and a celebrity who didn't act like he was anything special. He said that he had the greatest job in the world because he got to play music that he liked, and act like a fool and get paid for it. I told him I already acted like a fool, but I wasn't getting paid for it, and he told me that I was doing it wrong! 🤣

RockN2Country I was born in 71 and Jerry was/is and always has been one of my favorites, Mostly because he is so good hearted good natured, fun lovin', and loved life, music and people!! Get this though, and I would love to see if any University Hills kids out there catch this and know this....our P.E. coach, Coach McCormick(spelling?) used to teach us to country and western dance every Tuesday and Thursday for a part of exercise and just the involvement of music being beneficial!!! So, here's the Jerry Reed connection, We ALWAYS lined danced to Amos Moses at least once each session! We loved it and usually danced to it twice at least!! Coach taught us to line dance, square dance, two step, Houston two step, waltz, jitter bug and maybe a few more! My family moved from N.M. after my last year, 6th grade at UH to Oklahoma, and I never had a decent P.E. Class again!!! He had us playing all of the sports, track and field and we were graded and ran through trials every 9 weeks!!! Thanks for all of the memories and lessons Coach, all of the UH teachers and staff and of course all of the students!!! And of course a big thanks to Jerry Reed for his music and sense of humor, and all of the other music artists we danced to!!!

You should listen to his songs like 500 miles from home, a thing called love, a womans love, and other more serious songs. He had a great voice, and endless guitar talen. I like the one he did, the lightening rod. Check him out, beyond the comedy. He loved life. Elvis actually got him to record guitar man with him on guitar when Elvis did the comeback show. Jerry was fishing on the river. He came straight to the recording studio. Elvis wanted that guitar sound, the guys told him that only Jerry could do that. Nobody else could do it exactly like Jerry did. So, thats what Elvis wanted, and the rest is history. Jerry wouldve lived longer if he hadnt been a cigarett smoker. One of the most talented people in Nashville.

Someone mentioned about Jerry and Chet playing together. Chet Atkins was probably one of the most innovative guitar players on the planet and he had a very close circle of friends that he named 'Official Guitar Players' and Jerry was one of them. Jerry was a wizard on the acoustic, and he was always trying to get higher on the fretboard to get some particular effects. He finally got frustrated and cut a 90 degree chunk out of his acoustic guitar to make it easier to get to the upper frets, and you'll see this instrument featured in a lot of his videos.😉 This song, and 'When You're Hot, You're Hot!' were probably my 2 favorites of his.😁👍👍

That’s one of the songs my Mama used to clog to. She used to take me along when I was little. There’s a bunch of old songs I can’t hear with remembering those times. “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On”(Mel McDaniel) and “Dixie on my Mind” (Hank Jr) are a couple that come to mind. They would be good ones to react to, as well. Or, speaking of Mel, maybe “Louisiana Saturday Night”. Hell, this list could get long quick. Enjoyed the video, I had never watched this performance. Sidenote though, the sheriff didn’t go to check on Amos when he was a boy. It was when he was grown.

Primus did a cover of this song. bassist, Les Claypool's bass line on it is legendary. something i would HIGHLY recommend giving a listen to. also, Jim Varney, yes Earnest P. Worrel, sang a song called Hot Rod Lincoln, i think you should react to that as well

Great song written by Jerry Reed, but it was his pickin’ that made this an all-time country classic, which this video doesn’t demonstrate that at all. Sometimes, prior preparation helps.
