Well, a man who worked in showbiz from age five was hardly liable to be unsophisticated and naive. He admitted to having two sides to his nature and so what? Every comic is not some banal extension of their sweetest creations - he was flesh and blood and real and above all, fascinating and brilliant.

And Buddy Love destroyed the love that Dean Martin felt for Jerry. Dean Martin was naturally funny, likeable and NEVER took himself seriously. He has shown, thanks to his natural sympathy, that he can continue to be successful WITHOUT Jerry. Jerry took himself TOO seriously, without Dean he wasn't as fun (and innocent) as he was at the beginning of their career. And soon the public abandoned him, preferring Dean. Had he been more humble, his relationship with Dean would never have ended and his career would have continued for many more years. I've been reading a lot about them right now, they've become kind of a fixation :(

I know a lot of people probably couldn't appreciate Jerry's honesty but I personally love it. This is a man who was incredibly confident in his views on things and wouldn't falter or be influenced by what others thought. • @givethechanceakid

A mean and evil dad would not spend 500,000 over the years to get Gary's ass out of jail multiple times during Gary's drug years. Jerry was really heartbroken over what Vietnam had done to his son, and the effect drugs took on his family and marriage. Frank Sinatra even became involved to get Gary out of trouble. Patti Lewis' book talks about this.

As much as I love Jerry Lewis, & I can say he was my fav. til I was about 10. I still think he was beyond the best. What I express next is my opinion, & not a clinical psychological FACT . His 1st marriage to Patty was something he seemed to resent in time . She became a Mother figure in a certain way . It seems she wouldn't go to premiers, or parties, or be interviewed, etc. were her way of punishment for those affairs/dalliances he supposedly had indiscriminately in certain cases. She may have danced around, but I doubt she slept around or wanted to either. At this point there marriage was shot. Just remember Patty 's the one who never remarried. I'm assuming she is still alive . After all is said & done I also assume Patty , (whether she liked it or not . ) still loved JERRY. .

You really can't expect his head not to have been turned by it all, especially at that age. They saw what had happened to Betty after Dean left her, and I doubt Jerry wouldn't have wanted that fate for Patti, but by the end she'd had enough and you can't blame her.

He was a very smart man, you have to be smart to do comedy and he was very confident. This is what scared Dean Martin away. People are fine with you belittling yourself, but when you finally find your voice it reflects to them the uncomfortability that they have not found their own voice yet. And they leave, though they've known you for years. Not to get too deep but in all actuality, they're really leaving themselves behind, not you.

He is a very complex man but he produces treasures. He comes on as know it all fellow which makes him difficult to deal with. Leaving his sons out of his will is a big blow to his legacy and his reputation as a man.. He left his sons trusts according to his son Chris. He literally gave them jobs working for him, or working in the industry. He gave them gifts and money his whole life. At some point where does the support stop? Do you expect him to take care of his kids their adult lives? They had careers and jobs. His son Gary had a music career. He doesn't need the money from his dad. And why exactly is it a blow to his reputation as a man or legacy? Adult children shouldn't be entitled to their parent's money automatically. People can do with their money, whatever they want to. Also several of his sons did some bad stuff, and therefore Jerry stopped talking to them. His son Anthony was stealing money from his mother Patti, for money that Jerry was sending her for her nursing home care.

Humble? I don't think so, he was sitting there with adultery in his soul, he projected his sins upon his poor wife, as do all adulterers, that is why he didn't want her dancing with another man, he was afraid she would behave as he did. He was a typical narcissist.

Simply making a statement, derived from his own mouth, from all his own interviews, and available public facts. I pray he repented before he died. Because all his good works, and all his money, did not go with him. One can not earn a place in Heaven, it is only by our faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, who died once for all.

I think Jerry had some insecurities and sounds a little arrogant. Who cares about somebody dancing with your wife, afraid someone's gonna take her. Love his movies..

Drugs (like uppers that many actors/singers/entertainers took then) and the adrenaline of working and performing. I'm sure he was exaggerating though, as I read he usually got about 4 hrs asleep before getting up in the morning to go work or perform again. Probably less at times.

Jerry was a major womanizer during his first marriage. He had long term relationships with several actresses who he supported, financially. Patty knew about his girlfriends. Everyone in show business knew, but said nothing. Jerry didn't care. He had his staff cover up his behavior. He paid them very well and they remained loyal. But he forbade Patty to dance with anyone other than himself. So can we assume that Jerry never danced with any of the girlfriends he slept with? Or that it was okay for Patty to sleep around as long as she refused to dance with these guys?

Jerry Lewis was a "flawed" comedic genius who let his "flaws" sabatoge his comedic genius unfortunately. He was very pompous and an egomaniac besides being a brilliant comedian.

In truth he was trying to cover up his insecurities and come across as more in command than he really was. He was also trying to show that he wasn't the idiot kid that he'd often portrayed. He was really quite knowledgeable, but doing badly at school affected him and he had a lot to prove. Sometimes he can come across as pompous, depending on which interview you watch.

Lol His son Gary Lewis is worth 10 million net worth, but go off I guess. If his other sons didn't have enough money from the jobs he gave them throughout the years and the money he gave them as well, then that is their own damn fault. Jerry Lewis did not have a fortune, and net worth actually doesn't equal money in the bank. So while Jerry and Gary are worth millions in net worth, they were never that rich. Gary still tours and is richer than most but not a millionaire in the bank, and Jerry was about the same. All of his possessions were sold at auction, and he was heavily in debt when he passed away. His daughter and wife that he left his film rights to, and possessions and property, are not rich and had to pay off those debts. His daughter lost her job during the pandemic and had to use the savings that were left. She was on youtube, saying as much. His homeless daughter Suzan chooses to live on the streets. Her sons who seem to be well off and traveling the world, are somehow letting their mother live on the streets? Gary Lewis who considered her, his sister for awhile, sure didn't take her off the streets. I used to be friends with her on facebook, and it seemed that she was choosing to live that way. Lots of people wanted to help her out, yet she is still on the streets. How do you explain that?
