Jerry Lewis Jitterbug

Фильм және анимация

Jerry Lewis is a goof, but a pretty good dancer! It takes a bit of skill to balance goofy gestures, accuracy and rhythm simultaneously!

Jerry Lewis had a condo in South Florida in the 70s. My uniformed police partner and I were having breakfast one morning in an IHOP. This guy suddenly appeared at our table and picked up our check off the table. He said something like "You guys be careful out there. Thank you." and walked to the cashier. He was alone. I'll always remember him for that. No drama, no publicity, no hysterics. Just decent and humble. One of very few and I've met plenty.

No one ever mentions Jerry's talent as a dancer because most of his dance performances were goofy, but google a bit and you'll find comments from his contemporaries. As Astaire would tell you, dancing is hard, but comedic dancing like this is brutal. Jerry was an incredible all-around performer.

When I was a boy, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were on the Colgate Comedy Hour one Sunday evening. On that program, one group of guests were four African-American dancers--I don't remember their name. But the audience knew them. First, the guests did a fantastic dance routine that drew great applause. Then the guests invited Jerry and Dean to do a routine with them. Then all six of them did individual routines. The four guys were great, but Dean and Jerry also brought down the house. It was a tremendous evening for a kid. I'll never forget Jerry and Dean were tremendous dancers.

It was very sad, depressing me for some time. He was a great talent !! America was blessed to have him for so many years. He was a good man with wonderful CLEAN fun. His mind was sharp for the interview. He raised alot of money too, giving of his time for many years. Too bad there are not more "stars" like him today. A MONEY HUNGRY WORLD TODAY. God bless him. Jerry Lewis invented new ways of lighting sets in motion pictures , and was the first director to use video tape cameras mounted on the 35 millimeter cinema cameras. This allowed the director to see the shot instantly instead of having to wait 24 to 48 hours for the film lab. He was a genius and an American treasure.

Lennart Carlsson Well, he was a pretty good physical ‘slapstick’ comedian, though I preferred Lucy and some of the Marx Brothers material. Bu the trouble with that kind of comedy is that it’s really only a young mans game. It’s much harder to keep up when you reach middle age. And comedy, of course, is very subjective - ‘one mans meat is another mans poison’. I myself prefer humour that makes clever use of language, someone like Tony Hancock or the manic double-talk of Groucho and Chico Marx. Also, the dry humour of Bob Newhart or Paul Merton (who just cracks me up whenever he goes off on one of his surreal rants!), or even Dean Martin whenever he would come out with one of his hilarious off-the-cuff ad-libs. But I know there will be plenty of people who will disagree with me, and that’s fair enough. There must surely be room for all kinds of humour, especially the way the world is today.

I feel the same way, but the reality of it was when Jerry Lewis passed away, there was NOT one TV station or news media that made acknowledgement of what he accomplished and gave of himself every year to put the MD Telethon together ! Yes he was one of the GREAT ones, not the garbage media we have today

More proof that Jerry Lewis was a show business legend. The technique he showed in this was typically amazing. He was a master of every kind of entertainment art. His dramatic acting ability and his comedy were both profoundly skillful. Constantine Stanislavsky often taught that the grotesque was the highest form of acting and Jerry Lewis routinely performed masterfully the kind of technical abilities only a Stanislavsky could recognize. That’s why we are impressed with Jerry Lewis. For the same reason.

These big screen productions were just amazing. You.will never find anything like this in today's movies. The choreography of these combined movie and music dance numbers were simply astonishing. Just think of how much work things of this nature were to produce. Jerry and other comedic actors at the time had to be multi talented to get roles like this one. Today's actors are not expected to do such a thing by film directors. This clip is a American classic and our children should be exposed to these film shorts and their place in American history.
